Great place!
I recently took my 2005 Ford Escape to Jim`s to reattach the leather on my rear passenger side door. I was pleasantly surprised at the quality of his work and how quickly it was completed.
I had the same thing happen to me about a year ago on my drivers side door and I took it to another upholstery shop here in Austin. I must say I was thorougly disappointed at the craftmanship completed...plus they charge... view mored me more than double what Jim did!
If you have any upholstery that needs to be taken care of, I highly recommend Jim`s! Great service and quality and a reasonable price!

Excellent, fast and quality service
I was recently in Austin taking care of my mother after her surgery for breast cancer. That was stressful enough but to top it off, I was letting the top down on my Solara when the window shattered. Being 500 miles from home, I did not have a clue as to where to take it. I went to the Toyota dealership to seek their help and they gave me a couple of shops to try but as luck would have it, they were both closed for... view more the day. The next morning (Wednesday), I started calling at 8AM. The first place I called was not open but Jim`s Top Shop was. He said he would order a window and call me when it came in. He called me back less than an hour later and said the window would be in first thing in the morning (Thursday). He said to bring the car in after 9AM and he would have it ready that afternoon. He was good to his word and and I picked my car up before 5 that afternoon. The work was excellent and the service fast. I would highly recommend Jim`s Top Shop.

Has potential but I completely got hosed.
I have a Mercedes Benz SL600 that needed a new top. The plastics were yellowing and I got the ez-top which many have used and brought it to Jim`s Top Shop. They have stock mounting holes and others have had great success with them. My car was `done` and there was a one inch gap on both sides. How they could let this leave the shop without telling me this might be a problem is unacceptable. Granted it`s only $500 for ... view morelabor, but customer service and feedback is sorely lacking. I took it around the corner to what seemed to be a slightly shadier area and that owner was immediately knowledgeable of what was done wrong. Jim`s shop pawned off the blame as flawed design. Odd how tons of other SL owners never had a problem with EZ top. EZ top was very helpful on the phone and basically said that Jim`s screwed up and wasn`t fessing up. Now with my top up, the wind whistle is annoying to unacceptable for a higher end luxury convertible. They seem to have a lot of business and decent custom type jobs. I have no idea how they screwed mine up so much, even after I dropped it back off again to have it `readjusted`. now I have two holes showing on the back section where the screws used to be. Perhaps I got unlucky and had a flawed EZ top. but the fact that no one else has problems and the other shop was well aware of what was done wrong, I`m loathe to recommend Jim`s top shop to anyone unless you have a 2002 pontiac sunbird or some other piece of junk that you won`t mind them screwing up your top. The owner (not named jim by the way) did seem to want to try and correct it but i think the initial damage was done on the install adn no amount of `fix` would correct a bad install. I wish i just took it somewhere else to begin with. I can`t even take the car to the car wash now because the water sprays into the back section of the car. Your mileage may vary depending on car, but if you have something nice, take it elsewhere.

Excellent Top Shop in Austin
I had 2 different people recommend `Jim`s Top Shop`. One of them was a fellow convertable owner at work that noticed that my back window was slowly turning brown and failing. The second person to recommend Jim`s was actually a BMW shop here in Ausin that had previously replaced the whole top. The BMW shop had replaced my E30 (1992) 325ic top with an original top several years ago and the top was in fantastic shape... view more but the window was just completely shot. I always buy my parts from this BMW shop but they explained that my 16 year old car had was at the point where the original window was no longer made and that the replacement window would be fairly aged (hey -- that`s way that window must have failed in my new top that was just replaced a few years ago).
Anyway, the BMW shop recommended Jim`s. I decided to call them. They quoted $550 to sew in a new rear window. The final price turned out to be $550. If I had gone with the original BMW zipper window, it would have been about $800 and it probably not have lasted long.
Jim`s sewed in a new window made from scratch. By making a custom window, I think that they installed a `fresher` plastic that will last longer.
The installation was also extremely clean. They resewed in a custom window but they used the pattern that was originally stitched into the window. I cannot tell the difference between their stiching and the orignal BMW stitching for the window.
Disadvatages? I guess that their scheduling is a bit unusual. I called on Oct 1 hoping to get my rear window replaced. I was given an appointment on Oct 20, They didn`t ask for my name or phone. They only wanted the car type. When I showed up, my `appointment` was set by my car type on a calandar on the main service desk. I was suprised that there were only two `appointments` made for Oct 20. I kept mine and got a FANTASTIC rear window.
The end results are top notch -- tight, clear, and durable. I have another convertible. I`ll be back.
