DIDN`T SNARE ME
Edited on August 1,2009 after a call from the manager reqesting my review be removed or else he would see me in court.
On July 16, 2009, a wrecker driver working contract for Perfect Touch Paint & Body showed up on the accident scene. He won the coin toss to tow my car to a location of my choice. He talked me into letting him tow my car to their shop on 5625 Fondren. The wrecker driver wanted me to sign a bl... view moreank tow slip. I asked him to fill out the information before I signed. So he filled it out and at the bottom was a space for comments. I asked if it is alright to write in "TOW ONLY" in the comment section, he said sure fine and I wrote it on the tow slip. However, I did not get a copy of that paper. I called the main shop five minutes after the wrecker driver left the accident scene and spoke to the manager per the business card that was given to me by the wrecker driver. I asked about the tow slip. I was told I do not get one?(I thought to myself OK ?)(that is strange)
I told the manager at that time I would be in on the following Monday or Tuesday - I wanted time to decide what I was going to do with the needed repairs to my car. I instructed him that NO WORK was to be started on my car. Four days later, Monday the July 20th- 4 DAYS later.
My adjuster went to view the car so he could do an estimate. My adjuster looked at the car. He asked the shop to open the hood to put a jumper box on the battery so he could get a milage reading. Perfect Touch called me after the adjuster left and told me it is standard practice to start the TEARDOWN of the car. I again stated to the manager, that NO ONE is to start any repairs to the car as I was still not sure of which shop I wanted to hire to do the repairs. I wanted time to make some phone calls. However, by this time the front bumper had been removed - this now entitles the shop to a teardown fee, when I had specifically ask that no work/repairs be started. I learned that now the shop is entitled to a teardown fee. I went down to the shop on Monday the 20th and looked at the charges to get the car released I notice that someone had crossed out my "TOW ONLY" comment and wrote in a tow charge of $195.00 on the tow slip I did not receive. I was told at the accident scene by both the police officer and the wrecker driver it is Harris County policy that the legal tow charge is 143.50.
I started reading the labor costs on the board behind the counter and my eyes focus in on the TEAR DOWN CHARGE($500.00). The manager told me the adjuster told the shop helper that the front bumper needed to be removed so he could see more damage.
So I called my adjuster and asked if he told anyone to remove the front bumper. He assured me he told no one to do work on my car other then requesting the hood opened and a jumper box hooked to the battery. He also and stated he did not have the authority to have any work started. To assist me in resolving this, my adjuster agreed to pay 1 hour for work NOT AUTHORITIZED be me.
The manager totaled the bill to release the car, I paid the (293.50) bill to release the car-tow charge 143.50 and 5 day storage??(it was there 4 days- I asked about this and 1 hour labor to get the car released. I had SAFETOW come rescue my car and take it to a reputable shop,(Saturn of Houston)(southwest freeway)and feel I am dealing with good people. I want people to know about my experience with both shops and will update when the car is finished.
I feel the first shop tried to take advantage of both me and my insurance company from the time they hooked up the wrecker to the car-my tow only comment was scratched out, the price of the tow was changed, work was started without permission. I had a bad experience, and now the manager of Perfect Touch Paint & Body has told me to remove my comments, and he is stating he did not get paid for the teardown.
