Highway Robbery

I`d give these buys zero stars if I could. I took my 4Runner into the Hwy 183 location a few years back and they got me pretty good. I described the problem to them and left the keys with the guy. I figured it was some type of transmission problem. Hence taking it to a transmission shop. The guy said they`d take a look at it. They gave me a call later that day and said that it needed to be rebuilt. No elaboration wha... view moretsoever, just ""it needs a rebuild kit"". That`s all I could get from the guy. Too bad I was a stupid and gullible youngster at the time and didn`t press him for more of an explanation because I doubt very seriously that he would have had one. But I WAS stupid and gullible, and I did agree to pay somewhere around $1800 for a transmission rebuild. So a few days later I get it back and take it for a test drive. This is where I get angry. I quickly discover IT STILL HAS THE SAME PROBLEM! I drive back to the shop and ask the same moron behind the counter about it. Are you ready for the worst part of the story? He explains that this ""problem"" my truck is having, is not actually a ""problem"" at all. I quote: ""it`s supposed to do that"". ""it won`t shift into overdrive until the engine reaches a certain temperature"". Turns out he was right. I looked it up. That`s not the problem. The problem is that the moron failed to mention this little tidbit of information before I gave him $1800 for a rebuild that APPARENTLY I DID NOT NEED!! Am I missing something here? Is it just me? When I go to a repair shop and they ask ""what`s wrong with your car"" and I tell them the symptoms, I expect that their recommended repairs will FIX THE SYMPTOMS THAT I`VE OUTLINED FOR THEM. And if those symptoms are normal operating conditions, I expect that this would be brought to my attention swiftly. I do not expect to have my ignorance in this subject taken advantage of and given a recommendation for an $1800 repair. When I brought this to the moron`s attention, he pretended to be confused. That was his response. A look of confusion. Now I know this place has a good reputation because they`re ""family-owned"" and ""an Austin original"" and all that other garbage, but I just wanted people to know that they ripped me off something awful. I was a 23 yr old going to school fresh out of the military. I had very little money and a truck that was apparently working fine. I gave these guys $1800 of my GI Bill money to give my truck a transmission rebuild when it didn`t need one. And to make matters worse, I`m still driving that truck, and now, a few years later, the transmission really IS starting to have problems. Apparently their transmission rebuild wasn`t worth a damn.
