I was looking for a looking for a "back-and-forth" I was looking for something less than 18K. Talked to Nick Fikes through emails and calls. Told them exactly what I wanted and offered 18k out the door including TT&L. We can do that, he claimed, come go for a spin. After speaking with Nick I received an email from his Manager Tim Carter asking a few questions regarding my purchase: Answered question... view mores with what I wanted, said I wnted. He replied no problems, we could do it. ( saved the emails)
I said great I would be down that weekend and made an appointment for saturday, May 4th, with Nick to get the paperwork started and test drive.
Day of appointment. Keep in mind that I live in Duncanville so with traffic we are looking at almost an hour drive. I arrive about 4 minutes late, but no worries since no one seems to know I have an appointment. After they track down Nick I introduce myself and my aunt Karen (who was visiting that weekend) and go to a table to "discuss" seeing the car. Keep in mind I had already stated what I wanted and what I was willing to pay. Nick then took my license to make a copy. After 10-15 minutes he came back with a set of keys. He said lets go find the car (yes find, he had no idea where it was) and take a test drive. We walked around for a couple of minutes, found the car, and my aunt and I sat inside. He hands us the key...now here I must say that he did not describe any features, show us any controls or buttons, try to sell me on anything. He says to go for a test drive, i said i didnt really want to, he said that I have to since I could find out something was wrong with the car. (like Texas has no Lemon Law) After ascertaining that we had insurance (rudely) and telling us not to steal it, whatever, I took the keys and drove off, noticed fuel light was on and we were sitting on E so I pulled into a parking lot for a few minutes just to test out radio and try to find all the controls. Came back. Waited about 10 min by car. Found Nick pulling a trade-in into the bay, he stopped when he saw us. He asked how we liked it, we said we had a few questions, he said he would be with us in a minute. That`s why he kept shoving us off and making us wait, we realized, he was working with other clients - and I made an appointment! I received no attention, no curtesy, nothing but empty talk and a lot of waiting. He came back, I mentioned there was no spare tire (yes in the wait time I had crawled under the car to check). He said I did not need it since I would receive roadside assistance and some tire goo stuff. Almost like he was saying "your a girl, you wouldnt know how to change a tire anyway". Please, 7 out of 12 years in the army I was a mechanic - sure I have changed more tires than he ever dreamed. I will never buy a vehicle without a spare. Went back inside, he claimed he had to copy my license again because the silly secretary (again women are stupid jokes) shredded my paperwork. Another 20 minutes passes - we know he is dealing with other customers by now so I shrug it off, my aunt on the other hand is getting mad. This makes almost an hour and a half wait - remember I am paying cash, they already agreed to price and options, all I wanted to do was check out the car, give a copy of my license, then show up on friday with a check and insurance to sign papers and and take my vehicle home. he comes back with the dreaded paper and a price over what we had agreed on. He says he fought for me and this was the best he could get because of the extras. My aunt Karen gets angry and asks what extras. Nick claims he is not sure, but we could go look at the car and he could show us. She says no, you tell me. I take a deep breath, smile, and ask him point blank if this is the best price? He says yes because of the mysterious extras. I nod, thank him for his time and leave. BTW the spare tire was never mentioned again.
