We bought a lemon!!!
We purchased a Toyota sienna van from carmax in October of 2011. Since buying it only 5 months ago, both power doors have broken and the power steering system needs $1400 worth of work. We are sick about it because we were counting on this van to last us for the next 5 or 6 years. If you must buy from carmax, take the vehicle to your mechanic for a thorough inspection. Do not rely on their so-called CQI (certifie... view mored quality inspection)!!!!

Service department is terrible
I purchased a car from Carmax in August 2011 and have had nothing but problems since. I purchased the warranty, but so far nothing has been ""covered.""
I noticed when I bought it that there was a faint smell, but I assumed they had just cleaned the carpets. Wrong. There was a water leak when they sold it to me and the floorboards were damp.... and then soaked.
When I took it to have it fixed, the "... view more"water specialist"" was unable to locate the leak (did I mention he only comes in on Thursdays and never actually explains what he did or what he fixed?) The entire carpet needed to be removed to dry it out (this took 5 days). No one was able to explain to me what was done to fix it, but they promised it was fixed. It was not.
Then it happened again. I took it back to Carmax to be diagnosed (again on a Thursday by the water specialist) who was ""stumped."" He replaced some ""plugs on the bottom of the car"" and sent me home.
Not surprisingly, it leaked again. I was at my wits end and had to take it to Beaman Toyota to have the problem diagnosed. Carmax pretty much forced me to do this, as they couldn`t find the problem themselves. Beaman found the problem in 3 hours -- water was coming in through the back hatch and running up under the car to saturate the floormats.
My recommendation: If you`re going to buy a car from Carmax, use the 5 day ""no questions asked"" return policy to take it to another mechanic to check it out. They don`t seem to do a very thorough check of the vehicles before they sell them. And I do not recommend the Carmax service department. They are not dependable, they do not fix it right the first time, and they are not fast.... and you have to BEG for a loaner vehicle every time... but you probably won`t get one.

Let me pay their friend instead of offer the free service
The receptionist (her name was Tata?) was rude and short with me. Everything was fine except that I asked if they offered rentals. They said they would have a rental there for me, but said nothing about the complimentary shuttle service. The rental was not there, the guy had to call to have the rental come out, and from the way they talked on the phone, they were clearly buddies. Still nothing about the free shuttle ... view moreservice. I only found out because I over heard another lady using it. Gee, maybe I`d like a free driver? I spoke with Andre who was nice enough (I say that sarcastically) to listen to my complaint but didn`t offer to do anything to help. Just said ""ok, have a nice day"".

thumbs down for carmax
purchased my car in 2007, had nothing but problems from that day forth. Had to constantly take my car in for repairs, that they could not figure out, or fix on the 1st trip. Made continuous trips for the same problems. No friendliness, no care or concern. I now take my car elsewhere to be fixed, they will never touch my car again. There needs to be a lawyer that will take on the case of unhappy customers who have bee... view moren swindled by car max. Even the Customer Resolution Center, couldnt resolve my issues...

Doesnt care about customer.
OK - I tired and tried. When I bought my car in Jan. of 08 I had to bring it back 4 times so they could fix everything that should have been done before I purchased the SUV from parts missing to the lock the held the keys so you could take it for a test drive. They left it all in there.
Now Micheal Booker sold us this car and he was fun and knew what he was doing that part was the best part. I stayed wi... view moreth Carmax to do my oil change, etc. and today I set an app. for 10am for a tire rotate and balance. Now i left there at 1:35pm and when i asked Ta Ta and there manger I was told well the maintence person went to lunch and you tires need put back on. Well that doesnt make scence to me as me being there customer has to wait for them to take a lunch break - I dont think that is fair and when I asked why was that fair to me they told me look there has been a lady waiting scence 7:30am this morning for here care so I asked why is that my problem? So be advised when you make an appment you are making a time that you are dropping off your care and they will get to it when ever they want. I was very upset and the manger did nothing to help, nor the custoemr service agent. I will not be back!
