expensive oil changes

Every time I take my car there for an oil change, I walk away with a $300-400 bill. I`m not sure if the work is actually required, but I was under the impression that owning a Honda would be less expensive than my other car (Volvo). Turns out the cost of ""maintenance"" on the Civic is a lot more year to date than the Volvo. Not sure I can afford to keep taking the car to the dealer for future oil changes.
