More interested in Selling you Parts then Fixing the Car
My oil light came on at 100800 miles. After quickly checking the levels to make sure they were good, I took it to the dealership to be diagnosed. They told me it would be take 5 days before they could look at it.

I called Gaynors and was told they could see it the same day. That is the only reason they got one star from me even.

After taking it over to them, I left and waited for the Call. When their ... view moreservice advisor called, he told me I had sludge in the engine and that I would need to buy a new ENGINE! When I ask how he determined that, he said they looked in the Oil filler cap and down the tiny lube stick and saw encrusted sludge all over. They did not suggest any ways to clean the engine or any alternative other then replacing the whole engine.

I immediately turned to the internet to read how others dealt with Sludge in their engine. the First thing I looked at is that you can`t look under the oil filler cap for conclusive proof of a sludged engine because theirs always sludge build up there, even on a great engine

I also learned that while sludge is bad, there are some thing that can be done to alleviate it before spending $6700 on a new engine. At no point did Gaynors Suggest any of that. When I suggested Pulling the Oil pan and Cleaning it out, they quote me around $700 do do that.

I called another mechanic that my coworker recommended, whose shop was about a mile from Gaynors. (NW Import Specialties) He quoted me $274 to pull the oil pan and clean it out.

I immediately picked up my car took it to Steve at NW Imports. He pulled the pan, called me to confirm that the screen was completely clogged with crud, and let me know that they had cleaned it out and the car was ready to go. After testing the oil pressure, he confirmed it was back to normal and suggested I use the Auto-RX product I read about online, to clean the rest of the sludge around the engine.

So 5 days with out a car, Dealer wanted to Sell me a new one, Gaynors wanted 7 grand for a New Engine, and I ended spending 334 out the door at NW Imports.

I plan on bring the car back to Gaynors after Its done being desludged and show them exactly why not only will I never go there again, but I will actively discourage anyone I know from ever going their.

When I bring my car to a mechanic, I expect them to fix things, not act like sales people and see how much they can sell to me.

Refreshingly Ethical
Gaynor`s replaced our transmission 5 months ago and gave us a limited 2-year, 24k mi warranty. When the 2nd transmission needed replaced recently, they took great care of us. Even though the warranty only covered the defective parts/labor on the replaced transmission, it was actually a faulty radiator that ended up ruining the transmission and therefore, they had every right to charge us for replacing it a 2nd time... view more. Instead, we only paid for the radiator parts & labor, which was a fraction of what they could have charged us. To top it all, since we were without our vehicle for a week at a time, they even paid for our rental car from Enterprise (both times!)

There is good reason this business is continually rated ""Best in Clark County.""
