My daughter`s car began overheating. A friend who is also a mechanic worked on the car. He replaced the water pump. This engine is very poorly designed and has to be partially disassembled to replace the water pump. The car wouldn`t start after he finished with it. At this point, he`d had the car for over a month. He knew someone that had a shop and would tow the car and get it running and should be finished wi... view moreth it the next day. The cost to tow was $50. They agreed to do the labor for $150.
Hot Wheels towed the car to their shop, but weren`t going to be able to get to it right away after all. A week and a half after the car was towed to the shop, we were told to quit calling to check on the car - they would call us when it was done. A few days later, they called to say the car was ready. Total cost was $293.00. $50 to tow, $150 labor, $53 for the `new` tensioner, and $40 to change the oil. By this time, we were ready to be done with these people, so I just payed the bill, even though $40 for an oil change is ridiculous. We drove the car from the shop to our home just west of Oklahoma City. By the time we got home, the car was overheating and the timing chain was making noise that it shouldn`t be making.
We called Hot Wheels to give them the opportunity to address the situation. Their response was `Sorry, since it overheated, that could have caused the problem with the timing chain, it wasn`t anything we did.`
