recently went in to buy a used 2006 Subaru from Alex at Salem Auto Sales. I had a two hour drive, and so did as much prepping for my purchase prior to arrival. Alex was great getting me pre-approved for a loan and answering my questions via phone. The day I arrived to buy the car he was there waiting and did everything he could to put my mind at ease. I felt he was a genuine sales representative, and I put faith in ... view morehis word. Two days after I bought my car, I noticed a strange whining noise coming from the engine. I was a bit frustrated that I had such little time to drive my Subaru before it needed to be checked out, but felt that I might as well ensure there weren`t any minor issues that needed addressing. I took my car to the local Subaru dealership and was floored when they returned to inform me that the gasket heads were failing and needed to be replaced. The technician stated it appeared that the gaskets had been leaking for some time but probably were pressure washed off to hide any evidence of a malfunction. Along with other work recommended by the dealership I was faced with a $3200 bill two days after buying my car!! Needless to say I was irate. I called Salem Auto Sales only to discover that Alex was out of the office for the next week on vacation. The timing seemed too convenient. I will acknowledge he called me back and left me a voice mail stating he was surprised to hear of such a problem, and that his mechanics had given the car the all clear. He suggested the Subaru dealership was wrong and I should just drive the car. No other help or assistance was offered. After a $13000 investment I was not about to risk driving the car on his good word. I went with the Subaru pros and had the gasket heads replaced. I`ve been left with an extremely sour taste in my mouth and hope to steer people clear from Salem Auto Sales. If nothing else, please have your desired car inspected by an objective
