Great Mechanic

After I was in a car accident, I ended up buying a cheap `88 fox. While I new the car had issues, Scott called it, ""a pandora`s box of problems,"" and let me know it wasn`t safe to drive. I didn`t have much money, and he worked with me to figure out what needed to be done to have a safe car, and what work could wait until I was able to afford it. I will definately be going back. Thank you Scott!

Great Mechanic for BMW & Mercedes

I found Rife motors from the service records of a used BMW I bought 8 years ago. Scott Rife takes the time to explain everything he does, sometimes too much detail but I appreciate that he is respectful and never talks down to me or feels like he has to dumb stuff down. His prices are reasonable, his shop is clean and comfortable and my car ran great. He checked out my next car I bought, a 1998 Mercedes and kept that... view more maintained perfectly. I bought a new car recently and have it serviced for the time being at the dealership. I felt way better about my experience at Rife than I do at the dealership. Rife allows you to have a direct relationship with the person working on your vehicle. I highly recommend Rife motors to anyone.

Quick, straight-forward service!

I called 4 area (read: SE Portland) auto shops looking for a diagnostic on a starting issue for my 91 Fox. While I originally left Scott Rife (owner, mechanic) a voice mail, he returned my call in less than 20 minutes and spoke with me over the phone about my problem for a solid 20 minutes.

It`s been 3 weeks since I picked my car up at his shop and I haven`t had a problem starting at all! :) The shop itself... view more is immaculately clean, though the neighborhood is a tad off-putting. Rife had no problems being straight-forward with me, and I had no troubles communicating with him about my wants. His hourly rate is completely reasonable (lowest of the 4 shops I had originally called!), and his rate of turn-around is faster than some other area shops who specialize in VW (I dropped my car off after hours one Monday night and it was ready for pick up Tuesday by 3pm!).

Given my experience, I would recommend Rife Motors if you`d like a) quality personal interaction with your mechanic before and after the work, b) a respectable hourly rate and very clean shop, and c) to support a one-man shop who works with passion. ;)
