Great family run repair shop
I was refered here by another shop for an alignment and could not have been more pleased. The staff is friendly and eager to help. Everything was explained and the pricing was very fair.

Great service. Honest shop.
I had my front brakes replaced 6 months ago and I`m very pleased with the way I was treated. I was a walk in and they did the work in about an hour. My rear brakes still had 50% life remaining. They could have easily told me that I needed new rear brakes too. The price was also a lot less than my last brake job.

My 1st HONEST repair shop - EVER!!
I am new to the area, just moved down from Ohio. I was down here the thursday before Easter getting things in order for our move to Raleigh and was to drive home friday for the holiday. Well, you guessed it my car cut off and would not restart. I decided to use Brown`s based on a the recommendation of the tow truck driver. We showed up there about 2pm (without an appointment). The place was hopping busy. I explained... view more my situation and the good people at Brown`s said they could not promise anything but would do their best to get me fixed that same day. (they were to be closed on Good Friday) So I waited -- They have a comfortable waiting room with TV and Wi-Fi. They diagnosed my problem to be an alternator. They normally close at 5pm, The owner, Scott, and one of the techs volunteered to stay late and finish the repair. I left there at 5:45pm very relieved and pleased. Brown`s explained everything to me, the cost was very fair, everyone there was friendly and eager to help. I had told them I was from out of town but did not mention I was moving to Raleigh and they went out of thier way to take care of me. With everything that is up in the air with my life right now it is comforting to know I have a repair shop I can trust and rely on.

Beware of owner, price gouging.
Originally, I called Brown`s for an estimate on the work I needed. Whoever answered told me they would look it up and call me back. I never received the callback, I guess I should have taken that as a sign, but I decided to drop by anyway to see if they could work me in a week later, which they did.
I mentioned to Scott, the owner, that the tech lifted my car by the painted side trim rather than the reinforced u... view morendercarriage and he became very defensive and started explaining excuses why they could not lift my car properly. It was only after I explained my knowledge of car lifts that he stopped the excuses and admitted that the pads were not raised to meet the bottom of the car to clear the lift.
The completed the repairs and I left.
After 10 miles, I heard a thumping rattle. I had supplied the OE parts to replace my aftermarket struts and shocks, and they were used in condition. I came home and checked the tightness of all the top bolts, and everything appeared in order. I had another spare factory strut, so I decided to drive downtown to have Brown`s check the tightness on everything they touched, and if that checked out, to swap the strut and spring for the spare I had.
Immediately when I walked in, Brian and the lady at the counter were eager to help. I mentioned that I would be more than willing to pay to have the second part put on.
At this point, Scott told me that ""he didn`t want to do the work"", as he was afraid it would ""become his problem"" if the noise didn`t disappear. Nevermind the fact that he had put my used parts on the car the day before, and I was not trying to hold them financially responsible for ANYTHING.
I told Scott I was willing to accept full responsibilty for the repair, but would prefer them to do it as Manuel was familiar with my car from the day before.
Manuel asked Scott if he wanted him to go ahead and swap it out while I wait.
Scott told me he would have to charge me 175% of the price I paid yesterday to replace the one strut, adding without hesitation that ""it wouldn`t hurt his feelings if I took it elsewhere"".
The lady behind the counter had an embarrassed look on her face, and Manuel started to interrupt, before Scott cut him off and Manuel raised his hands in a ""you`re the boss"" gesture.
I was more than willing to pay the price I paid the day before, but I wasn`t going to get gouged by an unreasonable manager on a power-trip.
I heard office staff say to a client that they were so busy they turned work away every day. Good for them. That may be the case, but eventually if you are a jerk to enough people, word gets around.
Personally, I would be borderline going back at all for their prices, but now that I have experienced the management culture, I can certainly say that I won`t be back. If you go here, I hope you never have even the smallest issue with a repair, even a part failure.
Due to the spiteful nature of the near-doubling of the price after I reported an issue, and the reaction of the manager when I reported negligence regarding my car on the lift (lifted by the painted part rather than the undercarriage), I would be wary of the quality of the repairs if a concern was ever raised.
Bottom line, the shop isn`t so great that the owner is worth dealing with. Take your business elsewhere, you will eventually anyway.
Pros: Manuel (tech) and Brian (advisor) are very helpful and understanding.
Cons: The owner. Higher-than-dealership labor prices. The owner. Labor price gouging to replace a failed part. The owner.
I won`t be back to Brown`s and would hate to think about sending my wife there if she needed anything and I was not available. Do yourself a favor and find another shop.

Quintessentially Trustworthy
Brown`s is hands down the best auto repair shop in Raleigh. Brown`s works on all my vehicles - from putting new heavy duty tires and wheels on my F250 all the way up to more complex repairs like replacing the timing belt on my Honda. The mechanics are some of the most knowledgeable around, and will take time out of their schedules to explain the scope of repairs to you. The customer service is also impeccable. Thi... view mores is one of those repairs shops that will actually talk you out of a service if they believe it is unnecessary! As a result, you can place complete trust in their recommendations. In fact, Brown`s is so honest and trustworthy that they will give you advice and a ball park estimate on a service even if you want to take your vehicle elsewhere. Bryan, Scott and Ann run a top shelf garage. One visit will keep you coming back for all of your auto repair needs.

Excellent Service!!!
I have been driving for over 30 years and my brother was a mechanic (prior to his death some years ago). I have known and used many mechanics during this time and I have encountered all types and have a good idea of what constitutes good service and fair dealings. I have been using Brown`s for about 3 years or so and have nothing but the highest praise for their work and customer service!!! I recommend them to my ... view morefriends regularly and without question. We need more businesses like Brown`s!!!!

Peace of Mind
I love this place! I have been a Brown`s Alignment customer since 1986. They have always treated me with respect. Being a woman I am usually fearful of being taken advantage of - but the owners and technicians at Brown`s always take the time to explain what is going on with my car. They really seem to care about me and want to make sure I understand what needs to be fixed and why.
They seem to do every thin... view moreg I need there. Over the years they have fixed my brakes, alignment, check engine light and done tune-ups. I have had a Buick Lesabre, a Subaru Forester and currently drive a Toyota Camry . The Camry I bought used and took it to Browns before I bought it and they checked it over to make sure I was getting a good car.
I hate spending money but when they work on my car I leave there feeling good because I know my care was fixed properly and they stand behind their work. (I believe they give a 12 month/ 12,000 mile warranty - parts and labor - on all of their repair work).
You can not put a true value on PEACE OF MIND!

WONDERFUL EXPERIENCE!
I was refered to these folks and have never felt more comfortable with an auto repair establishment. They are family owned and operated and went above and beyond to make sure I understood and was comfortable with the repairs my car needed. The work was done flawlessly and finished on time. Years of excellent service!
I have used Browns Alignment for over 10 years now. They have fixed brakes, aligned my tires, worked on the engine, replaced parts, etc and so on. They have always given me excellent service. Being a state employee, I do not have a lot of money and they have been wonderful about working with me to keep my car running with out having to spend an arm and a leg. Jacked up prices after the quote!
This is my first time writing a review.
I called Brown`s Alignment & Brake Service on 1501 Wake Forest Rd. Raleigh, NC 27604-1330 on Fri. the 5th 2008 and ""asked how much they charged for an alignment on a 1990 Chevy Cavalier, the woman checked on the computer and said it would be about $58 plus tax"". I said good what time can I bring it in because I was about to sell the car and needed the alignment done as... view more soon as possible; she said 1:30pm. I get there 10mins early and was told the guy to do the alignment had went to the bank and would be back shortly. :-/ At 2:00pm he comes back and 10min later he calls me to come look at something on my car and I start to think OK here it comes and I was right! He told me that because of the model of my car there ""MAY"" be a problem with taking off a part that are sometimes rusted out and if so there will need to be an order placed for it. If that happens the cost will be $78-79 plus tax.
I look at the part and I can see that it`s in no way rusted out and then I said thats NOT what I was quoted on the phone and he replied ""well I don`t not what to tell you. I don`t see a price down here on the paper maybe she give you a wrong quote"" He saw the way I looked at him and then he said ""well I can take it down and wont charge you nothing if thats what you want"" I said yeah that s what I want because the only reason I came here was because of the quote I was given. Now when I was about to get into my car he said looks like you need an inspection, you want me to go ahead and do that with a smirk on his face. I said I`m about to sell it so I don`t need YOU to do it.
I wish I had remembered his name but I tend not to remember the names of people like that only they`re faces because they are now dirt to me. Bottom Line is this: If you don`t like that price you have been quoted jacked up AFTER it`s up on the lift and there`s no REAL reason for the jack-up on price GO SOMEWHERE ELSE!
The two office people where very nice.
