Honest Quality Work
I have been taking my car to Cottman the past 3 years. When the dealership for my Hyundai told me that I needed new transmission fluid for my car, I took it to Cottman and they indicated the transmission fluid would not help out my car because the transmission was already burned out. They could of told me to replace the fluid like the dealership but they have honest feedback and saved me some money. When I had brakes... view more to be replaced, I took it to Cottman, and same when the air condition in car needed an expensive part. They give reasonable prices compared to the competition.

GREAT SERVICE AND HONESTY
Brought my 2002 vehicle in when transmission was acting up. My initial concern was time for a new car. I decided to go to Cottman Transmission in Cary. I brought my car in so thye could look at it, Brad said we will take it in and evaluate and have results back directly, which he did. Brad reviewed the test result with me.. The car was ready and I was ready to pay the estimated price. Brad said the estimaye came in lower. Which in itself rarely happens today, let alone in the auto repair business. Horrible experience
I took my car in for a transmission check. Brad, the manager, seems to be an honest, approachable mechanic, so I trusted my car with them for a while. In the end, I paid to tow the car to a shop I trust in my hometown (hours away) because the cost was exorbitant and the owner said a lot without saying anything at all (he was slimy, condescending, and reminded me of every negative used-car-salesman stereotype in exist... view moreence). AND when the car arrived at the new shop, my mechanic told me that there were parts missing AND they had taken out the pump, which is the last thing you do when dealing with a transmission in my model because it`s rarely the problem and it`s the most expensive thing you can do! I regret paying them to even look at the car, but hopefully someone else can benefit from my negative experience. Pros: If you go, deal with Brad. Cons: Everything else.

Three strikes, they`re out!
My car had three transmission overhauls from Cottman of Cary in less than a year but still was not fixed correctly. Each repair attempt took at least a week longer than first estimated. I have spent many hundreds of dollars on unreimbursed car rentals. I still don`t trust my transmission enough to take my car on weekend trips. Exceeded expectations
My wife`s 2004 Mazda MPV mini van started developing a really loud rotational noise from what seemed like the transmission. I was pretty reserved to opening my wallet to the tune of thousands to get this fixed. Vision of a whole new tranny flashed through my head. Had no idea of where in Cary to go. Did a Google search and decided to give these guys a try. I called and made an appointment for the next day. After g... view moreoing in and explaining the issue I was comforted to hear these guys were reluctant to make predictions. I dropped the car off @ 9AM and walked to Panera for a coffee. Within 45 mins they called and had the issue diagnosed as a bad wheel bearing. Picked up the car by 4PM and was in and out for a couple hundred, parts and labor. I walked away feeling like these guys were honest, straightforward and fair. They even pointed out a repair that they could not fix but though they should bring to my attention. Good stuff. Only cons......Fairly `spartan` waiting area with no WiFi in the waiting area and any options for connectivity, food, etc. is a 10 min walk away.

I`m Baaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaack!!!!!!!
It`s 9 pm when the BIG RED IN YOUR FACE battery light starts flashing, not now for cripes sake, I`m driving to Michigan in 3 days!!! I just had a new battery and altenator installed 6 weeks ago when I was stranded in Michigan and I had no idea what was happening now but I sure wasn`t liking this. Back on the Road!!!!!!!
When my 1998 Jeep Wrangler wouldn`t start I dreaded trying to find a place around here to take a look at it. Everywhere is paved and I`m pretty sure I drive the only 4x4 in our apartment complex. I started looking online and found Cottman Transmission Center almost immediately. What attracted me to them was their multitude of positive reviews. After calling a few places I called them just to get an idea what a di... view moreagnostic visit would cost and possible prices for what I thought could be the repair scenario. I got Daniel, the owner, on the phone who was very straightforward with me, he quoted me one of the lower diagnostic prices and when I tried to get a `possible scenario` price out of him he told me, ""Ma`am, with all due respect, until I see the car I would hesitate to even give you that. I couldn`t diagnose your car over the phone any more than I could guess it`s color."" Right away I liked him. Other people might have been put off by such a comment, but I grew up around various mechanics and garage environments, and while I am no expert I know when someone is trying to BS me for business sake. This guy was clearly not trying to do that, if he could see it he could work from there, and I respected that. Ultimately, I took my Jeep to Cottmans and though the repair was a little elusive to pin down at first both Daniel and Brad, the manager, kept me up to speed and full disclosure with me all the way. Even when there was a tiny mistake on their end for a price quote. I always got a call and an thorough explanation. Brad even apologized for the mistake that technically happened outside of their garage (a supplier didn`t exactly know what they were talking about in terms of parts and prices)! I was impressed, for being mechanics I didn`t grow up with they sure treated me like I was part of their neighborhood. Once we got the right part, the fix was quick and Brad even consulted with me to save on labor cost by using `part of the part` I had ordered but I still walked away with the whole part I had paid for, which, my younger car-nut brother will appreciate. Bottom line, they are fair, straightforward, and deserve your business. I will be recommending them and I will be returning should I need anything else. Thank you Daniel and Brad!
