Upcharges
My experience was not so good at this location. Nice service rep named David gave me an estimate of $2800-3200 for rebuilt transmission. However he called me 3 times and each time the estimate went up. Finally got out of there with $3900 invoice. I knew transmission repair was expensive and if he had said upper $3000 to begin with I would have been OK, BUT each time my phone rang it was about $200-$300 upcharge. I ha... view moreve been in the service industry for about 15 years and when I give a quote I stick with it. And yes, I have had to eat some expenses I hadn`t figured in, but I surely wasn`t goint to pass on my estimate mistake to a customer as this AAMCO in Gastonia does. After I left I called 2 other transmission shops to get a quote on exact work AAMCO had done. One quoted $3500 and the other $3700. I also had $100 coupon they would not honor due to it had to be presented when vehicle first brough into shop. Well my vehicle was broke down and had to be towed and there was no way to get the coupon to them when vehicle arrived. I would just advise that if you get a quote from David it may or may not be accurate and if your phone rings later from AAMCO in Gastonia, it likely will be an upcharge on some items he had not figured in your original quote. Also it took 2 weeks for the repair. I can`t honestly say if this is reasonable or not as this was my first transmission rebuild.
