Bend over and bring the vasoline
I purchased a car from Carmax and put my trust in the reputation that Carmax has so actively promoted. Here is a summary of the events so far:
1) I purchased a Volkswagen Beetle with a manual transmission on 8-31-05.
2) I noticed a transmission problem almost immediately after purchase. The gears would ""grind"" between first and second.
3) I returned to Carmax within the ?warranty? period.
4) I ... view morewas told by the Carmax service department that there were no transmission problems. I was relieved.
5) Three years later, I wished to do business with Carmax again.
6) I brought the Volkswagen Beetle in to be appraised.
7) I was told by the appraiser that it has a transmission problem. The gears grind between first and second.
During conversations with a manager on 11-7-08 and 11-10-08, I was told that I should have had the car checked out again if I was concerned. My answer to that is I had no concerns. I would like to point out that I have no knowledge about car transmissions and had to rely solely on Carmax?s word that there were no transmission problems. If Carmax requires second or third opinions in order to make repairs, I do not recall seeing that on any documentation provided during the purchase or repair service process.
It was also pointed out to me that there was no way to tell what was going on with my car three years ago. I reviewed my service record from 9/7/05. It states ?c/s gears grinding when shifting between first and second.? I don?t see how someone like me with no mechanic experience could be any more specific than that. In fact, it is almost word for word the problem indicated on the purchase appraisal of the car.
Avoid this bunch of crooks like the plague! If you still aren`t convinced, check out rateitall, a web site that has more reviews.
