Giant Autos Not Fair to Out of State Purchasers
Basically, I thought I was getting a good deal on a used 1998 Pathfinder, because it was (barely) within my limited budget price range ($4000) as I am a student now. I did the research on Auto Trader and found a 98 Pathfinder at Giant Autos, and corresponded with one of the dealers there, Zak. My brother lives near Syracuse, so I had him go test drive the vehicle before I wasted my time and my dad`s time to drive 7 h... view moreours up to see this car. My brother said as far as he could tell, the car drove smoothly. I went up, performed a visual inspection (New York state law requires an inspection under the duty of care a layman would show, NOT an expert or mechanic) obviously I did not have a hydraulic jack to inspect the inner portions of the frame, and expected fair and full disclosure at the time of the sale by the dealer. In retrospect I should have demanded an independent third-party inspection. I made the mistake of trusting these shady characters. The first thing I should note is that the vehicle had been advertised at 145,000 miles on the odometer, and when I purchased the vehicle it had 153,000 on and that even though the model trim was listed on Autotrader as an LE, it was in fact an SE with several optional features added on. These were, in my opinion at the time, forgivable mistakes. The car was placed on a temporary New York state registration until the end of February. I brought it back to school in State College and then recently brought it back to Johnstown to have my mechanic go over it and alert me to any trouble spots before I had it inspected for PA. At the time of the sale, the guy at Giant Auto assured me that it would have passed NY State Inspection but that he did not have it inspected because I was an out of state purchaser and I would have to have it inspected in PA. Well turns out I should have demanded that as well, because aside from needing a new alternator, ball joints in the front, rear shocks, rear tires, rear control arms and bushings (all of which I would have understood due to the car`s age) it also has a hole which had been rusted through the cross-frame in the back. My mechanic`s exact words were, "this car should have never been sold like this." So I called the guys at Giant Auto and they gave me a very flat response that "this was an as-is sale" and further promulgated the (in my opinion disingenuous) argument that since I had the car for 30 days, the rust through could have just developed and he would not be willing to do anything whatsoever to remedy the problem. He then, almost laughably, tried to insist that he still believed it would have passed New York state inspection at the time of the sale and that this problem could have deteriorated mostly within the roughly 35 days I owned the vehicle. I can provide pictures to anyone who wants them that make it obvious that this is progressive rust that a reasonable dealer should have disclosed. If you are from out of NY state, stay far away from Giant Auto.

Scum Bagsss!
I bought a car there, and immediately once i started driving it home it had problems. i took my car back 8 days later and they said it was minor and fixed it. BULL! it was never fixed!!!! then 38 days after i purchased the car i can no longer drive it. the headgasket blew and my mechanic told me it had been previously tampered with! but i figured okay good thing i purchase that 2000 dollar warranty. welll SURPRISEEE!... view more!!! they are not recognizing that!!!! and i am carless and still making payments. if you have a brain on your head DO NOTTTTT buy a car from these low life scum bags. they`ve done it before!
