Powdercoating
About Powder Coating
What is Powder Coating?
Powder coating is an environmentally friendly alternative to solvent based paint (and in some cases plating). The powder is made of dry, finely ground organic resins and pigments. The powder is most commonly applied by spraying with a gun that electro statically charges the powder as it exits the tip. In most cases, the powder is applied directly to a clean, bare metal surface; with no primer or base coat (powder coating can also be applied to glass, ceramics, temperature resistant plastics and even wood). The part that is being coated is electrically grounded, causing the charged powder to cling to it. After coating, the part with the loose powder clinging to it is placed in the oven to cure. In the curing process, the powder melts and flows over the surface of the object without drips, runs or sags. The result is a highly durable and attractive finish in a wide variety of colors, glosses and textures.
Why Powder Coating?
Where is Powder Coating being used?
Chances are you have quite a few things at home that have a powder coat finish. It is used extensively on many consumer products such as appliances, furniture, fixtures, automotive parts, sporting goods, etc. Commercial applications include store fixtures and office furniture. It is used on farm implements and in many industrial applications where durability and high resistance to chemical and environmental stress are needed. Powder coating can also be an excellent choice for refinishing projects such as bicycles, motorcycles, automotive parts, indoor and outdoor metal furniture, etc.
Caring for a Powder Coat finish:
While most powder coated finishes are tougher and much more flexible then conventional solvent based paints, they are about the same hardness as automotive paint, so they will scratch. To clean a powder coated surface, use the same care methods you would to clean your car. Gently wash with a clean, soft cloth and a mild detergent followed by a clear water rinse. Even though most powder coatings are highly resistant, certain solvents can harm them. Avoid contact with nail polish remover, paint or lacquer thinner, motor oils, transmission and brake fluids or parts cleaning fluids. If any of these should contact the powder coated surface, immediately wipe the area with a soft, clean cloth and wash as described above.
Reviews:
We are a LOng island based company that restores antique automobiles professionally. We have used this company to powdercoat over 500 individual parts in the last 3 years. We have never had a bad experience, nor been unhappy with the results. The costs are fair, and well within the normal charges for this type of service, if not even a bit less in cost. The owner is very helpful, and goes out of his way to help clie... view morents with schedule and job costing reqiuirements. They can handle parts from the very small to entire automobile chassis.
We highly recommend.

Dirty place with horrible work
I should of known better the minute I walked in to this place the work was going to be as horrible as the mess and the dirt going on as soon as you walk through that door. But I said to myself don`t judge a book by its cover. Well I should of went with my initial gut feeling. The work was done last minute which I was told was done a while ago and had sufficient time to dry. Well it surely wasn`t and the work was horr... view moreible. I didn`t even want to hear why the work looked so last minute and not done properly. Because I knew why. Sloppy place, sloppy work, it all made sense once I got my piece. So I paid and left being more angry at myself for trusting my things with such a dirty and disgusting place. I will never ever return.

Great Service
Had a great experience with this company. They restored all the wrought iron furniture from my yard and it looks like new. When my brother saw the furniture, he made arrangements to have his outdoor furniture done also. The owner actually came in on a Saturday just for me to pick up my table and chairs.........

*Warning *
To start thier prices are high, job was quoted 20% above thier competors within the same area. However I did not find this out until I cancellled my work with them and shopped around.
Last, their work is inferior and they do not stand behind thier work to the level you expect.
I`m giving them only 1 star just becuase I have to.

Very Unsatisfied
I don`t typically like to write a bad review for any company as everyone`s experience can be different depending on the circumstances. I am prompted to do so now because of the incredibly poor service I have received. I took several valuable vintage auto engine parts to Colorlife for powdercoating. I was called to pick up my completed parts after several days. Once I arrived I was told that my parts were still no... view moret ready and in the oven, this is after they called me to pick them up. Once they were done, I took my parts home only to notice extreme cracking in the coating on nearly all the parts. I returned and they assured me that they would fix it. Again, I was called and the supposedly finished parts were still cracked but now there were also chips in the paint (powdercoating isn`t supposed to chip) and instead of sandblasting the parts and re-coating, they went over the old paint which consequently darkened the color from what I initially requested and the parts no longer matched in color. This time I was told that the problem was with the clear coating they used. This was not my problem as I did not request the use of a specific clear coat brand. They chose to use a clear that had issues. Again, they promised to fix the problem. At this point I told them that if I had to return, we were going to have to talk about a refund. I was told not to worry. The last time I picked up my items, there we still cracked and there were more chips. Unacceptable! I was denied a refund and was told that I would just have to keep returning to them until they got it right. I don`t understand how this is an acceptable business practice. I will NEVER go back to them nor would I ever recommend them to anyone. Completely and utterly unsatified. Very shoddy work.
