Reviews:

I`ve lived in town for 20 years and
I`ve lived in town for 20 years and used Powder Mill whenever I needed towing, as they were the local AAA company. Never had any bad experiences with towing. I recently needed to tow my car to have some work done and saw these reviews and had some second thoughts, but decided to go ahead an use them. They arrived promptly, I was impressed by the drivers towing skills, he had boards to lift the rear of my car up t... view moreo avoid scraping the low tailpipe of my car as it was lifted onto the bed. He removed the car with equal car at my mechanics location and although he was over the allotted AAA mileage, he didn`t charge me extra. All in all I was very happy and would recommend them for towing.

I guess I wasnt the first case
Highly surprised AAA is contracting to this company. Talk about taking advantage of a bad situation. Shady company, even the one good reply in this review is written by them. 10 Negative reviews should give you your answer you were searching for.

Dishonest. They tried to charge me $600 for a $250 dollar job. My alternator gave out and I got towed here by AAA on my way to Pittsburgh. I have worked as a mechanic for 5 years, so I know the tricks. The manager quoted me $600 for the job ($300 for parts, $300 for labor)!!! I knew this was way too high so I called NAPA a mile down the road and asked for a price on a rebuilt alternator, they told me $120. I called 4... view more other shops in the area and asked what they would charge as labor for the job, all said between 1 and 1.5 hours (ALLDATA says 1.2hrs for the job) or about $150. I called them back and asked why they were overcharging. They said that they use ALLDATA too and it said 3.5hrs. This was a blatant lie. I requested a rebuilt alternator and the manager said he would drop the price down to $350, which was still too high. I said fine because I already spent one night in a hotel and needed to be in pittsburgh that night. When i came to pick up the car, they gave me a bill for $550 dollars and pretty much told me pay it or we`ll put you`re bad alternator back in. They also ordered me a new dealer alternator instead of a rebuilt like i asked (they make more off the mark-up). I called AAA to report this. They had someone investigate and refunded me the difference in labor cost (about $150), but couldn`t get me $200 dollar difference between a new and rebuilt alternator. They tried to take advantage of my because I broke down out of town and had very few options. I also suspect Powder Mill writes review for themselves on sites like this. I would be very skeptical of anything posted by Manray57, Phil Shenton, or posted on 4/23/2008. Excluding these posts, Powder Mill has a overwhelmingly 1 star review rating on all review sites.

Service any time day or night
I`m not surprised if I see some negative reviews for these guys, because they are going to show up in some of your worst moments.

But they show up. They get the job done. They are professional and they are always on call.

Sometimes I`ve gone in and they`ve sent me home without a bill.

I`ve been getting service from Powder Mill since 2006, when it seemed I needed them every other week for some pr... view moreoblem or other with my now deceased 1994 Chevy Cavalier. They are the ones I trust with my current car.

Be aware that they are an emergency service for I-80, 280 and 287 in the Parsippany area, so you probably won`t want to schedule a service call during a rainstorm or a blizzard, but if they come to your rescue you`ll be in good hands.

EXtortion!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Thiefs!!!
Powder Mill Towing tried stealing my truck from a parking lot claiming it was illegally parked. When I came out of my residence he was dragging the truck sideways by the front end towards his truck!. He said that since he had a chain on it that it was going to cost me $150 cash only to unhook the chain. He asked how much cash I had in my pocket. When I said I only had $20 cash on me he refused to help me out. He told... view more me to go walk to an ATM( miles away) and get him cash or he was taking the truck and it would cost hundreds more to get out of an impound. I tried explaining that I am a volunteer EMT who needs his truck to respond to emergencies in town and he said ""other people can respond"". This greasy individual extorted $150 cash from me to take a chain off my truck. I reported to the BBB. STAY AWAY!!!!!

Worst experience.. rude and cheaters..
Well, I went to this towing company to get the tire fixed for my car. The air was leaking and I had to put air every other day. It was a cold night and the guy X behind the counter told mechanic to check the tire. There was a nail in the tire so he said he`ll fix it and put a patch on the tire. Me and my wife went inside in the waiting area and after a while the guy X behind counter started smoking in there, it was R... view moreUDE. We couldnt go out because of the cold. The mechanic took his sweet time and when it`s fixed i was paying and asked if theres any guranty for the work he did. The guy laughed and rudely said there`s no gurantee for this work.
I went home parked the car and the next morning as I suspected the tire was flat.. I had to call my roadside assistance and the guy from another towing compnay came and changed the tire with the Donut. He said If you would have called us we would have fixed the tire last night with 3 months gurantee and you didnt have to be late for work. Ironicaly the Donut tire got flat while I was going to work.. and the same guy form other company came and fixed the old tire and put a patch with 3 months gurantee. I called Powdre mill next day and asked them to componsate me what hapened and atleast if I buy a new tire form them give me a break of the cost of tire fixture they did the other day.. but the guy rudely said No and gave me some higher price for an unkown tire. These people are CHEATS and RUDE and Dont ever go to this place . otherwise u`ll be wasting your time calling other company and writing these reviews.. save ur self time, headache and money and NEVER go there...

Bunch of Cheats
So, I called this company to Tow my vehicle to mechanic. This guy showed up on my door and ask me what is wrong. I told him that my car is not working and I need to tow it. He said he can help me out and see if he can give a jump start. Very nice guy. He kick started and jump started my car and took 58 dollars from me. I was happy! I thought problem is fixed.

But after running the car idle for 90 minutes I st... view moreopped it. I could not start it again. So I called the tow company and told them your diagnosis was wrong and either pay back my money or tow my car and I am willing to pay the difference. This guy was a mega RUDE guy and he was there to cheat me . He wanted me to pay extra 85 dollars for towing the car. He did not listen to me at all.

I know economy is bad but this is cheating and I think it is illegal. I would never use the services of this company again. STAY AWAY for these people. CROOKS...I also made a separate complaint.

I am surprised how these companies survice.

BAD EXPERIENCE
Spent over $700 on gas pump replacement, the same problem occurred again a few weeks later.

BE VERY CAREFUL, STAY AWAY

Pleasant Experience
I called for towing service at 5 minutes to 10 on a Thursday morning. The car was stuck in my driveway. I was told the truck would be there in about 1/2 hr and was given a fair price, on the spot, without even having to ask. After reading previous reviews, I made it a point to keep track of how long it would take them to show up. I came inside, made some coffee and sat down at the computer thinking I had at least a... view moren hour to kill. I got a call at 10:10 saying the driver was at my vehicle, elapsed time: 15 minutes, 15 minutes early, 45 minutes earlier than expected. The hook up took all of about 10 minutes and we were on our way. The driver was clean, knowledgeable, professional and willing to converse. The drop off, again took about 10 minutes with the paper work and the expected unpleasurable experience was a non-event.
