Reviews:
On Friday, July 22, I attempted to contact the people who had sold them the car at Star Toyota (... view moreShawn (last name unknown) and Ray (Emdadul) Hoque) and various ""customer service managers"" to whom Toyota Headquarters had referred me, but was not able to speak to anyone (except for a few minutes to Shawn) about these charges; everyone told me I`d have to wait to speak to Ray.
On Saturday, July 23, I finally spoke with Ray; he did not answer all my questions because he hung up on me before I finished speaking to him. I then posted a review on dealerrater(dot)com about my and my parents` experience with this dealer. Finally, someone named Scott, whom I left a message for on Friday, called me after he saw the review. He promised to make everything right.
On Monday, my father met with Scott and he removed all four of these charges. Given this final resolution, I increased my ratings of the dealership on dealerrater and other websites (including Citysearch). However, I want to warn other customers to be extremely careful if you go here and offer the following advice:
(1) Make sure you know exactly what the maintenance fee and the warranty cost and cover before you sign anything about them; also know that you are permitted to cancel them within a certain period of time for a full refund (as per the terms of the contract).
(2) Challenge them if they say you have to pay a ""bank fee,"" especially if it is on the order of $1000 dollars. If they tell you that ""you may as well pay it because otherwise the cost of the car will increase"" (as they told my parents), ask them to actually show you the breakdown of costs with and without this fee before signing the contracts.
(3) Do not let them charge you $75 for the ""dealers fee""; the invoice itself has an asterisk explaining that the maximum ""dealers fee"" they may charge is $45 + $5, or $50.
This dealership has a good selection of used cars and seems to have good prices, but you need to be very careful, especially if you don`t have experience buying from dealerships (which my parents did not) not to pay for things you don`t want or don`t understand.
