Most horrible experience to date with any auto repair shop. Came in for a 2nd opinion on my 2002 Astro with a bad idler arm, and was told to come on in by a stocky gentleman who charged me $20 to have it checked out ($20 was to have it put on the lift). Fine. 5 minutes later, he takes you into his office, starts humble then slowly reveals a multitude of problems both including and unrelated to your issue a... view morend starts picking up the phone and ?ˆ?fake haggling?ˆ? for the price of parts like he?ˆ™s working hard for you, before you even reach an agreement on whether or not you want the work done. He came up with a $430 estimate for a part that would ?ˆ?buy me 7 months or so before I had to come back in?ˆ?, while suggesting I come back next week anyway because I needed new shocks, bushels, etc, I took out the $20 for him and said I?ˆ™d come back when I could afford it (a polite way to get the hell out of there). Chunky got indignant and refused to give up my vehicle unless I paid him $50, saying his workers had loosened "a bolt" when it was on the lift and it would now be an extra $30 for labor. I was livid that anyone had touched my car without an agreement of any sort being reached. I called the cops and the guy made up a story about how I had agreed to let him work on my car, then came back half an hour later having changed my mind. Wow! Police were NO help, being that to them it was all just hearsay. Once he`s got your car on the lift, you`re screwed for whatever amount he wants under the falsification that your car`s up there so you must have agreed to the work. So I paid $50 for driving into the wrong place. Really arrogant, nasty fellow hurled insults and was satisfied with himself like he had done this before and knew he would get away with it. I guess he figured I`d go for over $400 dollars of needless repairs that had nothing to do with the issue I walked in for, if he could force me to fork over $50 instead of the $20 he was entitled to. I`d rather take my loss and report him to the Dept. of Consumer Affairs and warn everyone I can about this guy. Note: The address on the front of the place is 1349 Spofford Avenue not 725 Whittier which is what he comes up as.
