My new cat-back exhaust

I needed a new cat-back exhaust. Rust had gotten the best of mine, so I went about getting quotes. Of the four quotes I obtained, Mr. Muffler and Brakes of Shelby Township, Michigan, was the cheapest (actually by quite a bit). ?ˆ?Lou?ˆ? was the name of the fellow I worked with; he walked me through everything. I asked if there was any sort of warranty on the work, to which he replied, ?ˆ?How about one year??ˆ? I said, ?ˆ?ok,?ˆ? ... view moreknowing full-well that an exhaust system will never rust out in a year anyway, so it didn?ˆ™t mean much, but that was ok. At the price he quoted me, I would have been fine with no warranty at all. I left the car with them for the night. I received a call about mid-morning the next day that my car was done. I told Lou when I would be there and asked if he could put my car up on a rack so I could take a look at the work. He replied, ?ˆ?Well, I?ˆ™m pretty full right now.?ˆ? I asked, ?ˆ?So I won?ˆ™t be able to look at it right now??ˆ? ?ˆ?No,?ˆ? he said. I responded, ?ˆ?Well, that?ˆ™s ok. I?ˆ™ll just wait until you have some free space to come by so I can look at it.?ˆ? Clearly getting angry at this point, he said, ?ˆ?Let me see if I can do anything. Hold on a sec!?ˆ? So I waited on the phone?ˆ¦and waited?ˆ¦and waited. After a couple minutes had passed, I looked at my phone, only to see that Lou had hung up on me. I was driving in that direction at this point anyway, so I decided just to show up and see if they had obliged my request. I arrived and found that, sure enough, they had. The quality was so-so. For the price, I can?ˆ™t really complain, but the welds were pretty sloppy and I don?ˆ™t doubt that there is a leak here and there. Whatever. I told him that I was happy and thanked him getting it done so quickly. I paid the bill and as I was signing the receipt, I reminded him that he had offered me a one-year warranty. ?ˆ?Yep. One-year warranty,?ˆ? he said. ?ˆ?Well, it doesn?ˆ™t say that on the bill, so can you just write it on there??ˆ? ?ˆ?Um, I think it says it on the print-out,?ˆ? he replied. He handed me the final print-out, expecting me to leave. I read the print-out and upon realizing that it said nothing about a warranty on there, I again asked if he would at least hand write it on the printout and sign it. He pointed to the date on the paper and said, ?ˆ?That?ˆ™s today?ˆ™s date there. That?ˆ™s what we?ˆ™ll go by for the year warranty.?ˆ? I said, ?ˆ?But it doesn?ˆ™t say any?ˆ¦?ˆ? I was immediately cut-off. ?ˆ?We stand by our work,?ˆ? Lou barked. ?ˆ?I?ˆ™m sure you do, but I would still feel a lot better if you at least wrote it on there.?ˆ? He snatched the paper from my hand and wrote, ?ˆ?1 year warninty?ˆ? [yes, that?ˆ™s actually what he wrote] and shoved it back at me. I asked him to sign it. ?ˆ?No,?ˆ? he said. ?ˆ?But anyone could have written that on there,?ˆ? I replied. His face now as red as a beet, Lou yelled, ?ˆ?GET OUT! GO!?ˆ? pointed at the door and stormed out of the waiting area, back into the shop. I left thinking, ?ˆ?Either he really hates to sign his name, or he promised me a warranty that he knew he would never be able to keep.?ˆ? I?ˆ™m guessing it?ˆ™s the latter. Regardless, I will never be visiting Mr. Muffler and Brakes of Shelby Township, Michigan again. A few other disappointments about the shop: - The clock on my radio was 2 hours, 22 minutes slow when I got the car back. Even if they had disconnected the battery for some odd reason, my radio has a small battery inside that keeps the correct time, meaning that they actually messed with it and changed it. - Lou had a very greasy shirt on (even on his back), yet made no effort to cover my seats before driving my car. - They had been listening to another radio station in my car?ˆ¦maybe not a huge deal, but I still felt a little violated.
