I went to this Midas last summer to have my brakes & rotors replaced. I knew what they were charging me was a bit on the expensive side, and when I asked them about it, they explained that the cost was due to their installing a higher quality brake and rotors than the ones I had researched. It seemed reasonable enough, so I OK`ed the work. Less than a year later, my brakes are squeaking and working almost as poorl... view morey as when decided to replace them last summer. Clearly, the brakes this Midas installed were far less expensive than the "higher quality" ones they claimed to have used. I`ve spoken to a few other individuals who`ve had similar experiences at this Midas---being talked into buying a more expensive, "higher quality" part, only to later discover the part wearing out faster than even a standard quality ones. Also, when I mentioned that my windshield wipers weren`t working on the slow & intermittent settings, they "checked it out" and told me that I`d need to replace my windshield wiper motor. I decided not to have it replaced since the price they quoted me was rather expensive and it wasn`t that big of an issue for me. I`m now in the process of fixing said problem in order to pass MA inspection, and when I took it into my new mechanic (who`s been wonderful & I fully trust), he quoted me a price nearly $100 less than Midas. Moreover, as soon as he checked out the wipers, he told me that the problem wasn`t the wiper motor, at all, but rather, the wiper switch...a far less expensive repair. Basically, if I`d gotten it fixed at Midas, they`d have had me replace a totally fine part, and then come back and tell me that I needed to replace the wiper switch too. So glad I decided to hold off on that one... The owner and mechanics are friendly enough, but don`t let yourself be lured into a false sense of security. Someone`s definitely lining their pockets. If you`re looking for a good mechanic that you can trust, check out the Meineke in Holyoke. Dave and the guys there are great---they show you anything they pull out of your car and take the time to explain what you`re looking at. And if they can`t figure out what`s wrong with your car, they`re honest enough to tell you and not let you waste money throwing unnecessary parts into your car.
