Good mechanics -Dishonest?You decide
I was customer for 7 years.Book prices work done right.I needed brakes.Put in rears for $265 and without telling me the fronts were $650 (funny how they sequenced it that way).I brought it to Monroe and they said whole under body was rotted. They should have given me a heads up.This after muffler was installed and fell of manifold- my bad I should have gotten their that day it got ripped off bottom. But then $1K for ne... view morew system it started to rot and they wouldn`t put in for warranty because it was hassle saying ""I didn`t drive enough to dry up condensation"".Screw that. You can get work done their competently but you need to bring it to somebody else first to make sure your not getting ripped off.I junked car (they would take it for the $265 I wasted on brakes) because whole underside and brke would have run $3K.I gave them second star because if you know what the score is they are good mechanics and got good work before but just takes one bad experience to dump them (and on them).Go to S&H on East Street where they have same level of competency and seem like they will give a heads up but because it`s right thing to do.

Two great experiences at South Street Svc
I had two great experiences at South Street Svc. They seem pretty reliable, honest people. I don`t feel like that they nickel and dime you. Price was fair. It`s hard to find reliable mechanic anywhere, and when I find one, I`m sticking to it.

Two Great Experiences
Our 1993 Mazda 626 started running rough while we were in Pittsfield for the summer. So, I first took it to Bob`s on Elm ST, but they said they couldn`t look at it for a few days because they were temporarily down a mechanic due to surgery. They suggested I try South ST Service. South ST Service was also busy, but we went ahead and scheduled an appointment. After dropping the car off at South ST Service, they quickly... view more diagnosed the problem: a faulty fuel injector. Unfortunately, the fuel injector could not just be cleaned but had to be replaced. They quoted me a price for just replacing the fuel injector, and I decided to bring the car back a few days later after the part came in. When I brought the car back in, I asked them to change the transmission fluid with some Lucas transmission fluid I had purchased separately, and we also confirmed that it would be a good idea to change the oil as well. When I came back in the afternoon, the car ran great, and they ended up charging me $70 less than what they originally quoted me for just replacing the fuel injector, even though they had also changed the oil and transmission fluid. I was very pleasantly surprised because I expected them to charge me even more than they initially quoted with the extra work we added on.
After this positive experience, I also took our car to be inspected at their place. Once again, I was pleased with their work. Even though the car passed, they pointed out that the relatively new front tires were starting to wear very unevenly, and that I should get an alignment. I ended up getting the alignment after getting back to Boston, but I`m grateful that they pointed it out. Great job South ST Service!
I posted this same review on Google as well.
