Don`t go here, b/c you`ll get ripped off! My regular and dependable mechanic shop was swamped yesterday, so I went Ray`s Auto Repair for an estimate on brake work after reading a favorable review online. I was given a $1200 estimate (yikes!). The repairs "needed" were: 1. New rotors (said they were too thin to turn) 2. Brake pads 3. Rear shoes 4. Rear cylinders 5. Axle bearing kit 6. ... view moreGear oil 7. Wheel seals 8. Brake fluid The mechanic also told me the brake fluid reservoir was almost empty. I checked the fluid before making the short trip there, and it was full. This, along with the repairs they listed, made me very skeptical. I paid the service fee and was able to see my regular mechanic the next day. He said I did need new pads and cylinders, but that the rotors had "plenty of meat" on them and could be turned. Nothing else was necessary. His estimate came to $489, which was 2.5 times less than Ray`s!! As a woman, I felt like they took advantage of my limited mechanical knowledge, but I could smell the rip off. I would NEVER recommend having any work done there!!!
