rude finance manager
I went to purchase a new Lincoln MKX at Bill Collins FORD/LINCOLN and the experience was terrible. I had gone to the LINCOLN website prior to my visit and used a function on their website called TRADE IN VALUE. I also checked out EDMONDS.COM to get a trade-in value for my vehicle. The trade-in value for my vehicle on both the Lincoln website and the Edmonds website was $6000 to $7000. After 3 hours of test drivi... view moreng and negotiating on Monday and 2 hours on Wednesday, it came time to appraise my trade-in car and review the paper work for the sell.
Bill Collins Ford/Lincoln offered me $2600 for my car. I told them that I expected $6000.
I told them that I did not want to waste their time or my time and that my wife and I could leave because I didn`t want to spend any more time on the classic car sales routine on negotiating what my car was worth. They asked me where I got the idea that my car was worth $6000 and i told them their website...the Lincoln.com website. The salesman stated that he did not know that Lincoln`s website had a feature for TRADE-IN VALUE. i assured him that it did and I told him I found it very unbelievable that he didn`t know about it. the salesman then went to get the finance manager.
The finance manager storms into the office and says "where did you get the idea that your car is worth $6000. he never introduced himself, he never said hello. I told him about the Lincoln website and he said the feature did not exist. The salesman showed the feature to him and he stated "well, it doesn`t matter because you can`t use a computer to appraise your car, people appraise cars".
We had a brief discussion on how the consumer uses the internet to prepare themselves for the car buying experience and he walked out laughing saying "who uses a computer to appraise their car". I was very offended by the finance managers actions and the skit he was trying to play on how I should just trust their low appraisal of my vehical and that the tool on their own website cannot be used by the public to determine what their trade-in value is worth.
I told the salesman how I have purchased 6 cars and always the dealership had used the trade-in value from their own websites for negotiation. I have purchased a new cadillac this year and the cadillac dealership also used edmonds.com and their own website to determine my trade-in value.
I understand the negotiation tactics but the finance manager`s actions offended me, seemed like the classic salesman/manager routine to rip the customer off and he was rude. I will not shop at Bill Collins Ford/Lincoln and I will steer all I know away from them.
