Awful place
I bought a car from Torres about 5 months ago. The car looked to be in wonderful condition and I had asked if there were any issues with the car and they had told me not at all. I test drove it, looked it over and everything seemed to be in working condition so I bought the car for 4,500. On the way back to Peoria from Taylorville from buying the car, it started running strangely and then all of a sudden, a light ... view morecame on the dashboard and that said "Stop Engine Low Oil Pressure." So, put oil in it, and it did it again about 15 minutes later. Nothing seemed to be working and it was late at night so I left it in Lincoln and went back home and decided to deal with it the next day. The following morning, went back to where the car was to try and find a mechanic around that could look at the car and when I described what was happening, everyone told me there was nothing they could do. So I called Torres, told them what happened, that I didn`t even make it home with the car and they gave me the "well you bought it" attitude. But after much arguing, they told me that they will pay for the car to be towed back to Taylorville, to a mechanic that they know. After a few days, Torres called and told me that the car needed a new oil pump, water pump and timing belt. Which would cost 1,600. Which meant that the car actually cost over 5,000 which is way too much for a 2002 with 160,000 miles on it. So, I told them there was no way I could afford that. Well, they told me they would pay half of repairs and I had to pay the other half. So now, on top of not having a working vehicle, I also had to pay 800 for repairs on a car I had for maybe an hour. About two weeks later, the car was finished being worked on, went and picked it up, drove it home and it seemed to be running great...until it started getting hot outside. All of a sudden, the car started making this awful awful noise whenever it heated up. So I took it to four different mechanics and they all said the same thing: Do not drive the car anymore. So, I decided to go ahead and get whatever it was fixed. Took it to a very well known and respected mechanic in my area and he originally told me it was just a small thing that needed fixed that the original mechanic in Taylorville must have missed. The next day, he called me back and told me that actually, it was much bigger than he thought and just the part itself would cost about $950. NOT including labor which included ripping the entire motor apart. Which, like most 22 year old people, I cannot afford whatsoever. So basically, I am without a vehicle. I`ve had it since March and have barely been able to drive it. And I also can`t sell it because really, who would want to buy it? I am in the middle of writing back and forth to the Attorney General and trying to get something out of this. Even for them to just buy the car back for the price I paid or even less would be okay but it doesn`t seem to be getting me anywhere. Torres just keeps mentioning that I bought the car without warranty and that it is not their fault. Which, I understand. I didn`t sign a warranty but I also had the car for maybe 45 minutes before it all started falling apart. Their mechanic told me that he found pieces of the timing belt inside the engine bay which means that I had not done anything to cause the issues, that it had them before I bought it. And if you own a car lot, you look those cars over so there is no doubt in my mind that they knew what was wrong with the vehicle and they were just being dishonest. Moral of the story: Do not buy a car from Torres. I`m sure they`re great people, but they are your cliche car salesmen. They don`t care about you, they care about making money and that is not good business. I plan on writing about this on every review website, Craigslist and Taylorville newspaper. Anything to get the word out about this awful business.

Don`t get scammed by Torres Automotive
Don`t let yourself get scammed by Torres Automotive. Be sure to shop around first --- they have one price on their vehicles but have the same vehicle on craigs list for a cheaper price - then they make you think you are getting such a great deal. They are such liars - Taylorville, IL doesn`t need a business like this in their town. So, be smart - don`t buy anything at Torres Automotive!!!! P.S. I had to rate the... view morem with one star (on the 5 star scale) - only because I had to at least pick one star - they don`t deserve any stars by any means!
