BAD ACTORS!!!! Called to set up towing,
BAD ACTORS!!!! Called to set up towing, when I called back 10min later to ask if cancellation was an option they said $45 fee & phone was cutoff before I could respond. When I called back (they did not) & talked to the manager he said they had sent driver to another location and claimed I had cancelled which I NEVER HAD. I requested that they still come and the manager told me ""I have the right to refuse service ... view moreand I`m going to do it in this case"" which made me incredulous. Bottom line: I was stuck with a $45 fee in return for nasty service. FIND ANOTHER TOW COMPANY IF YOU NEED IT.

Buyer Beware
Bottom line -- do not trust them. They were dispatched by my roadside assistance provider to tow me and made me agree to have the work done by them before they would tow and store my car.

Expensive
$75/day to keep your car here if they aren`t given the go ahead to fix it. if you want to take to another place, you better pay the balance of towing + inspection fee. prices to fix are crazy high. i called around and had quotes about $200 cheaper and the quotes were free. their`s cost $60 but they don`t tell you that. frank is a nice guy who will talk your ear off to make you like him, then they`ll drop the ham... view moremer with their estimate. go elsewhere.

wells automotive will BREAK YOUR CAR!!!
I originally called for roadside assistance changing a tire. The guy they sent out put a hydraulic jack under my car and when he lifted it, I heard a pop. Now my brakes grind and there`s a thump when i turn the wheel. I tried talking to them about fixing the damage they caused, but they refused saying it was preexisting. They didn`t even call me to let me know this, I had to CALL THEM BACK to find out. DO ... view moreNOT USE wells automotive!!!! They will break your car!!!

Saved me $$$!
I brought my car in because the check engine light was on and the car was running like crap. Frank told me that he would check the car out and let me know what is wrong. I was expecting to receive a call with a big estimate and boy was I shocked when he called me back. Frank informed me that my car had a broken vacuum line that was causing my problem. The car was fixed and was ready for pick up all for $60.00! T... view morehe car is running like new again. Thanks guys and see you in cheeseland!

WORST CUSTOMER SERVICE. OWNER IS HORRIBLE.
I have never experience such horrible customer service in my life nor have I had someone who is supposed to be of a `professional caliber` speak to me in such an unprofessional manner. The three parties I interacted with at Wells Automotive included the towers, owner and general manager. - Rude - Deceptive - Ripoff Go to ANY other auto dealer/repairshop in Chicago. There are numerous options. I have had mu... view moreltiple friends complain that they have been completely ripped off. You can find other repair shops that will work WITH you and not do whatever if takes to turn a profit. I really only find it necessary to write a review in two situations: 1.) Excellent company/customer service that others must know about 2.) Extremely poor service/circumstances that I feel others should be aware of. THIS IS THE CASE WITH WELLS. The Situation I have Acura Roadside Assistence. Therefore, I can have my Acura towed to a dealer or repair shop for free. My breaks failed and my car was undrivable. I scheduled for towing via Acura Care to the Acura dealership. The towing company was Wells Automotive. They told me that the repairs that were necessary for my car would not be covered by Acura and that they should just tow it to their shop because they use Acura part and thus, the repairs would be equally expensive. I allowed them to do so (mistake number one on my part - THEY DO NOT KNOW WHAT YOUR DEALER WILL AND WILL NOT COVER - and they know this.) They quoted me an estimate of over $1k and before I allowed them to make repairs, I had my father follow up with Acura to verify that Acura couldn`t fix the problem for a smaller fee. Acura told me that everything would be covered. So, when my father called back to explain, they immediately threw out that there was now a holding fee for the car - the second that they found out that they wouldn`t receive the business. At a tune of $55 per day. So I arranged to have my car towed to the Acura dealership. My father faxed in the credit card info to cover these ""storage fees"". I got a call from Acura saying that they couldn`t pick my car up until the storage fees had been paid - so Wells still had not towed my car to the dealership. This was at 7:30am. I called wells at 8:00 am to just pay the fees so I could have the car towed to Acura - Wells said that this fee was now $330 - they charged me a storage fee FOR AN ADDITIONAL DAY because the car was supposed to be towed an hour after they were open. The GM was completely rude to me when I asked if they could at least pro-rate the single day of storage considering that I had paid almost $400 for my car to sit in an empty lot already. He was completely rude, said no and when I asked to speak to his supervisor he said that he was too busy to talk to me. The GM also said that there was nothing he could to about the fees - I asked again to talk to someone more high up. After a while the owner finally got on the phone. He was ASTOUNDING - in the worst way possible. I explained how the towers from his company had convinced me not to tow to Acura but instead to his shop and that it was under false pretenses and that I would pay the extra storage fee but not for the extra day for the ONE SINGE HOUR that the car was there. I was calm and polite and he was rude and heartless. It was the worst customer service and a total ripoff. It was deceptive. And on top of everything, the owner made me come into the shop to pay the charges instead of faxing the credit card information in - which is normally ok - I know this because my father faxed in CC info for the first payment. I`ve had multiple friends who have been ripped off by this company.

Chi-sters
I went to this place knowing I needed a simple tune-up. When pulling into the place, the vibe of the employees were laxed. The diagnosis they gave me was fabricated as they didn`t know that I took my car into 2 other places to find out what the code was to the service engine alert. After giving me a bogus diagnosis, they then tried to convince me to pay almost $400 for a tune-up.

Ridiculous... I still ended u... view morep paying $56 for a diagnosis and taking it somewhere else for a tune-up of $200.

This place is suspect and shady.

Worst Customer Service Possible
ON Saturday August 29 I had a flat tire. Called Allstate who made arrangements at 2:45 pm for a flatbed tow from Wells Automotive. They said and hour and a After calling back personally at 3:45 and being told 4 pm and then calling back personally aat 4:15 and being hung up on called Allstate back. Spoke with Allstate three more time between 4:30 and 5:45 before even they acknowledged that Wells was no doubt not g... view moreoing to show. Every time they called Wells would give an ETA of another half hour. . They had been told the dealer, who was nearby was closing at 5 and they said we had plenty of time. Which we did until they didn`t show. Allstate cancelled but they had no one else to call. I Called C&D towing. They said hour and a half were there in hour and 45 mins. Bad traffic on Saturday. Had proper truck, were professional and sympathetic. Wells has terrible reviews all over the place, but if you are sitting in your car with a flat tire and they are contracted with Allstate you assume reliablity becuz you surely cannot check. Write this name down and whatever motor club you belong to don`t let them try and send you Wells.

Many thanks to Wells
My son was stuck in Chicago. His car wouldn`t start. Wells towed him, checked car out and couldn`t find anything wrong. They couldve have taken us for alot of money. They were helpful and kind. Picked my son up at the hotel so he could retrieve his car..They didn`t have to do that. Honest, Helpful and if I lived in the area I would use them for my car. Thanks Wells.

Upselling to the tune of $686!!!!
I drive a 2001 Subaru Outback that has been meticulously maintained. In Chicago on business I was due for my 3k mile oil change. I went in and told the mechanic that I needed the oil changed and THAT WAS IT. When I picked up the car, he tried to feed me some story about an oil leak from my valve cover. I told him that the car was pretty well maintained and I hadn`t noticed any leaks under the car. He countered... view more by saying that it doesn`t take much. And that the problem was that the oil was leaking onto the wires underneath the valve cover. So I asked him to show me. To be honest, it didn`t look like a problem... but I`m not a mechanic. He then gave me an estimate for the work. Included in the estimate, new valve cover gasket, new air filter, new spark plugs, new spark plug wires. Oh, and ""engine cleaning"" (which he said meant wiping the corrosion off my battery). TOTAL ESTIMATE COST: $686.66 I told him I was a little suspect as my mechanic in New Jersey has been so attentive. He told me it was imperative that I get this done before leaving Chicago. (The exact quote was, ""A little oil on those wires and you`ve got yourself an engine fire"".) Long story short, my brother (who`s a mechanic) came to visit this week and confirmed my suspicions. UPSELLING CON JOB! I`ve read a number of bad reviews on these guys but figured I`d be safe if I was just going in for an oil job. But they still tried to get me. Probably saw my out of state plates and thought they could scare me into paying nearly $700 for a little peace of mind. My advice is: DO NOT TAKE THESE GUYS AT FACE VALUE. Go in there with a clear idea of what you need done. If they suggest anything else, make sure you get a second (and third) opinion.
