Reviews:
They will oversell and overcharge!
Pep Boys will try to take advantage of you and will repair more than they need to on your car, without doing proper diagnostics, just so they can make the most money off you possible.
I took my car in for a diagnostic one evening at 6:45 when I smelled antifreeze and my gage was running hot. I was told they would call be back before they closed at 9 to let me know what problems they found. They did not call. I... view more had to call the following morning to ask... I was told that I had a hole in my radiator and my entire radiator and thermostat needed to be replaced as well as system flushed out, and the total cost would be in excess of $1,500. Mind you, this is a 2 year old car...not typical problems for a vehicle so new.
Of course a $1,500 price tag made me want to get a 2nd opinion, so I took it to McCoullough`s, just down the road. Brian called me back promptly to let me know that no, both my radiator and thermostat were PERFECTLY FINE, and it was actually my water pump that needed repair, a repair that will cost me $1,100 less than what Pep Boys wanted to do to my car. Brian also let me know that even if my radiator was broken, there wouldn`t be a need to replace my thermostat right away like Pep Boys wanted to - that if it still showed signs of problems after replacing the radiator, THEN you pay for the thermostat replacement.
Pep Boys clearly did not run any technical diagnostic - they guessed at what the problem could be and tried to sell me the most expensive parts and service possible...""Shot-gunning.""
PS, If I could have given this 0 stars, I would have.
