Cottom Transmission Tampa- Bait and switch

I called Cottam about repairing the transmission in my expedition. I specifically asked what the ""R&R"" cost was (remove and replace). This is a well know term in the industry and is the labor charge to swap out a tranmission. Cottam tells me $390. They quoted me a pretty competitive price for the entire rebuild of my exsisting tranny of between $1400-$2000 depending on how many new parts were needed interna... view morelly. I was ready to send my vehicle to them but wanted to check on something. I called a friend in Naples, FL who could get a new ford transmission for me at his cost, and he told me that if Cottam would do the ""R&R"" for $390, then I should go with the Ford tranny because it comes with a $100K mile warranty. I called Cottam back and told them I wanted to have them put in the Ford trans and George tells me that the $390 ""R&R"" only covers them taking the trans down and opening ip up to see what`s wrong with it. It doesn`t cover the cost to stitch it up and put it back. Now the cost is between $500-$650 depending on if it need synthetic fluid. WTF??? Are you kidding me?? First, it`s easier to install a new trans than to rebuild my old one. You don`t have to open the case, etc. It should be cheaper to install the new one that to ""R&R the old one. Second, do you really mean to tell me that 12 quarts of synthetic fluid is $150 more than regular?? Yeah right. A new trans comes tested and pre filled. They would only have to add 2-3 quarts max. Here`s what happened- if I bring them a transmission, they can`t make money on all the parts, etc. They tried to lowball me with the labor charge (R&R) then pulled the ol` bait and switch when I wanted to bring a new one with a real warranty (not some 6 month crap). They might do good work, but after the stunt George pulled I won`t be going there to find out.
