Incredible Service
I have lived in Boulder 23 years and have owned my 1999 Dakota for 7 years. I have never been trusting of local shops and mechanics until my boss directed me to Mark`s about one year ago.
The guys at Mark`s are extremely friendly...no attitude. Even when I bring my truck in with a specific concern or problem, they consider the entire automobile and have found other underlying problems. They are able focus on th... view moree details yet always see the big picture. They always keep you in the loop. If they find a problem, they call. Afterward you know whether this other problem needs to be fixed right away or if it can wait a few months, and how much it will cost. There are never any surprises when you come to pick up the vehicle.

Top Notch Quality
I just wanted to share my great experiences with Mark`s Auto Service with other drivers out there. Having lived in Boulder for over 14 years, and driving late model trucks for business and pleasure, I have been through my share of mechanics and garages. (They are not all created equal!)
I stopped my quest for the perfect mechanic about 5 years ago once I found Mark`s automotive. Their experience is bar none in ... view moreBoulder and their customer service is better than any dealer service station.
They continue to gain my confidence everytime I visit. Including last week when, I stopped in with no appointment and they spent 45 minutes repairing an issue I had not even noticed before.
It is this attention to detail that has made them a strong, local family owned and operated business for 30 plus years. Thanks!

Great personal service
I went to Mark because I needed someone to work on my 98 Buick Regal. I did not want to take it to the dealer because I`ve had cold experiences with dealerships in the past. The guys there did a perfect job of identifying all the issues my 170,000 mile-old car had . They helped me identify and address the most pressing problems and I came out of there feeling at ease and comfortable with all the work that had been... view more done. I highly recommend them because they are small, attentive to your needs, and very friendly!

Worst car experience ever
This was the worst and most traumatizing car experience I have EVER had. I called the Mercedes dealership a few weeks ago and was told what kind of service my car needed. Then I called Mark and told him the car service that I needed and he said it would only be $80. I ended up not being able to take it in a for a few weeks so I called back at the beginning of this week making sure he understood me correctly and he sa... view moreid, and I quote, ""the estimate I gave you last time we talked is the same for the ""A"" service."" Dropped my car off today stupidly without signing any estimate paper and got a phone call midday from Mark. He called me just to tell me something that had nothing to do with the cost so I asked him how much it would cost and he said around $250. $250!!!!!!!!!!!!! NOT $80. Since they were already working on it, it was too late to go and pick my car up. When I went this afternoon I tried writing him a check and he said ""we dont take checks, no one writes checks."" Once he said that, I went off about how he needs a NO CHECKS sign somewhere and he quoted me COMPLETELY wrong and that I should`ve gone to Mercedes to get my car serviced because it would have been cheaper! YES MERCEDES WOULD HAVE BEEN CHEAPER THAN MARK. I`m a small girl and hes a BIG guy and once I said that he started yelling at me making it the WORST car experience I could ever imagine. I would give him no or negative stars if I could. DO NOT GO HERE UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES!!!!!!

Terrible experience at Mark`s
I wish that I had read these reviews before taking my car to Mark`s. My car sat there for three days without any contact. He ended up doing nothing other than charging my battery and tightening a belt. I could have jump started the car myself. The price was $204. I expressed to him that I felt completely taken advantage of and he couldn`t care less. He implied that he should be charging me for the time spent du... view morering our phone conversation. I strongly discourage interacting with this business. They are exactly the type of place that gives auto repair shops a bad reputation. I am incredibly disappointed.

I only wanted an estimate
I went to Mark`s after I got in a little fender bender backing out of a spot in the Target parking lot. The damage included a few small scratches and a very small dent. The car was brand new so I wanted it to look brand new again so I took it to Mark`s. It was such a small accident I did not want to get insurance involved, so I wanted to find a place that could fix it reasonably so that I could pay for it out of my p... view moreocket. I went to Mark`s and asked him for as estimate, Mark himself said it would be no problem and he would have an estimate for me in a few hours. Later that day I hadn`t heard from him so I called in and asked about my car, he said he looked over everything but didn`t have an estimate yet. So, this was friday, I waited over the weekend and called in Monday afternoon, and he still did not have an estimate ready. Tuesday, I called in again and he still didn`t have anything for me but said he would call me as soon as he had a figure for me. I never heard from him. I`m glad I never got an estimate or work done by Mark because I`m sure it would have been a horrible job (at least from what I`ve heard). Do not go to this shop, it is a big risk, and definately not worth it.

Good intentions, but disastrous results
We brought in our 5-year old Ford Escape for its 30k mile repair because Angie`s list had good comments about Mark`s. The car had never had any problems. Mark`s repaired it but found many things that needed replacing that we hadn`t anticipated, so that instead of $800 it came to $2400. That wasn`t the problem -- perhaps they were right that all those other things needed fixing. The problem, as it turned out, is t... view morehat they were incompetent in several of the repairs.
Mark senior told us that they replaced our brake pads with ones that were better than original equipment. As soon as we took it off the lot we found that the car was much harder to stop. We went back to Mark`s twice, and both times they told us that it would wear in. A week or two later my wife rear-ended another car because the brakes didn`t stop in time.
Stupidly, we brought the car to Mark`s for the body work. They installed the new body panels, but they were tilted. Mark insisted that it must have been that way before the accident. It wasn`t, and another shop later told us it was a sloppy job.
Finally we insisted that Mark change the brake pad to Ford pads. He did, charging us only for the difference in price, and now our car stops well.
A few weeks later the transmission failed. We had it towed to the Ford dealership (we finally learned not to go to Mark`s) and they told us that the wrong seals had been put in during the 30k service, and the transmission fluid leaked out.
In summary $5,000 later, Mark`s people want to do a good job, but they were grossly incompetent with our Ford.
