I would not take my car to john`s bascom automotive because most of the technicians are not certified with any certification or licences. Elix was the most dependable and reliable with a smog license and ASC certifications and he was terminated because he reported to the bureau of automotive repair about some illegal activities regarding smog repairs. They are currently being investigated for illegal smog repairs. ... view more DO NOT TAKE YOUR VEHICLE TO JOHN`S BASCOM AUTOMOTIVE!!!!!!!!!

Incredible Service by Trusting Mechanics
I have been going to this shop for over 30 years. I used to live down the street, then moved to Los Gatos and now live back in the San Jose area and STILL take all of my cars to John`s! I would never consider taking them anywhere else.
They are always busy with good reason and will always find time to speak with you when you come by.
Great group of mechanics that I have trusted for a long time. John, the o... view morewner is a wonderful man and his employees follow his lead!!!

I will definitly be back (its a good thing) =)
My truck had been undrivable for about 2 weeks and I unexpectantly had today off. A friend of mine refered me to this shop because I recently moved to the area and didn`t have a mechanic. I called John`s and they told me to come right down and that they would take a look. They also said that they would be able to get me home if I needed to leave the truck. I came in right away. My truck is a 15yr old, 160k, F150... view more. They were pretty busy but found someone to take a look anyway. After a couple tests, they explained that it was likely that there were some pretty serious problems which would likely cost around $1200-$1300 to fix. The further recommended that I not fix the truck but instead invest that money into a new vehicle. On top of all this they didn`t charge me anything because they said ""we just took a look."" Fantastic experience even though the news they gave me was bad. The situation with the truck was unfortunate but they were honest about it. They actually were even compassionate enough to make sure that I was ok and not upset before I left. I would recommend my mother to come here.... probably the best compliment I can think of for a car mechanic. =)

DO NOT TAKE YOUR VEHICLE TO THESE SHADY PEOPLE
They replaced parts that they were never even asked to look and and in turn caused cooling system leaks and finally the radiator blew yesterday about a month after they messed it up. They can not be trusted. They charged me to check a problem that arose after they touched the vehicle and after I paid over $2,000 for repairs. They are rude and dishonest and do not stand by their work. STAY AWAY FROM THIS PLACE

DO NOT TAKE YOUR VEHICLE TO THIS SHOP!!!
They charge too much and charge you to check their mistakes after you have already spent well over $2,000. They replace parts they were never asked to look at as they were never an issue until they touched the vehicle. My radiator blew yesterday as they replaced parts that were never a problem. I had leaks at all cooling system hoses after they touched my vehicle. They can not be trusted.

No Higher Recommendation Possible
Highest integrity and ethics I`ve ever experienced from a service business. You get what you pay for and they refuse to do work that isn`t called for. More than once I thought an expensive fix was required and asked that it be done and they came back with ""not necessary"" for a fraction of the anticipated cost. Exceptional people!

Great customer service
I have been bringing my car to John s for a wile now and they have done a wonderful job each time. All of the mechanics are extremely friendly and willing to help find out what the problem is. They are fair and honest about what the problem is. This is the best place i have ever taken my vehicles to. I Also want to give a special thanks to Elix for everything he has done. And of course I want to thank John for his ex... view morepert help as well. I will continue to come back. Thanks

This is the Automotive place to go!
My Sister gave me the number to John`s Bascom Automotive over 7 years ago. Many of her co-workers have been going there for years. (Sorry) But it is not easy to find a reputable mechanic in this county. Since she gave me his number I have taken a Honda 2004, Honda 1999, Toyota 1984, 2004 Nissan Frontier and my precious 2004 Lexus. My only negative was 3 years ago when I took a car (Honda 1999) that I wanted to bu... view morey for my Granddaughter and having it looked at to see if it was in ""good condition"" and worth the $$. I was told it was good. Then it cost me $2,400 to get it ""good"". That was disappointing! But I still find they are the best. I have not been disappointed since.

Didn`t fix the problem
I had a fuel pump installed at John`s Auto for a cost of $266 for labor only. I provided the fuel pump which cost me $135.00, not the price of their suggestions of $245 or $495. I don`t think the mechanic wanted to use my fuel pump, but agreed to. Afterwards the fuel pump was leaking gas, which is very dangerous. The first time I took it in (2 weeks later) they fixed it or so they said. The second time ( 60 days ... view morelater) I received a call saying that the fuel pump was not leaking but that my fuel injectors were and needed replacement at a cost of $150 x 4, plus labor. When I went to pick the car up sure enough there was gas leaking on the ground at the fuel pump. I was told that I should have put in a better fuel pump and the one I purchased at Kragen`s was cheap and would leak. They wanted $500 more to replace the fuel pump again with a more expensive one, less than 90 days since they put in a new pump. I took my car somewhere else. I had it fixed for $75.00. The mechanic said that John`s Auto had used the wrong fitting and that is why it was leaking. He fixed it in less that one hour.
