I`ve brought my car here the past several times I needed work done and they`ve done a great job.
On top of that the customer service is fantastic. Both Grant & Jerry in the office take the time to explain the work being done and the breakdown of charges as well as work to make sure their customers get the best overall value on parts.
I`d certainly recommend GWT!

I took my jeep to Golden West ...
I took my Jeep to Golden West Transmission because of a "thumping" noise I couldn`t track down. Jerry (Owner) went on a test ride with me and heard the noise.
A few days later calls me and says it was the transfer case and needs a new pump. $920.57 later and the noise is still there...
He says let me try again. He thinks it is the drive-shaft. I told him I already had it checked but he insisted that... view more was the problem. He took it to the same drive-shaft shop I did - It was fine. I am out another $506.19 and the problem was still there...
He then decides it is in the differential and agrees to look at it for "free" because as he put it, he loves a challenge. It was eventually narrowed down to the locker in the differential which they couldn`t fix (understandable). However Mike (I believe he`s a manager / mechanic) said he "re-shimmed the rear-end and tightened it up for me".
Well guess what? Rear-ends are temperamental when it comes to re-shimming. Basically he ruined the gears in the rear-end and that cost me $1100 to have replaced at a shop that was more experienced with rear-ends.
When I called Jerry to complain, he pretended to be generous and offer to refund $100 towards my new gears. His rationale was that since Mike didn`t charge me to re-shim the gears, there is nothing to refund. So, basically he said he broke my Jeep and caused me $1100 in damages for free. What an insult. I haven`t even been by to try to pick up the measly $100

Only reason there is one star ...
Only reason there is one star is because it won`t let you post with no stars. I`d give them negative stars if I could. I WILL NEVER recommend this place to any of my friends or family, my enemies for that matter. I had my transmission replaced, by this company, because my car stopped going in reverse. Then my axles started to go bad a month after my transmission was replaced. A year later and 200 miles over the warra... view morenty, they refused to look at my car and figure out the problem. I also had taken my car in 4 separate times to have them look at the transmission and a year later my car now has the original problem of not going in reverse. I was and am still very disappointed in this company and disappointed in myself for spending the money on having them replace the transmission that no longer works.... Jerry and Mike are nice guys but sad that they won`t help when there are problems with their work that was done....

Very pleased with work and service
----------------------CONTINUED-------------------
- which he did.
Lo and behold ..... the damn thing STILL HAD THE `THUMP` - BUT KEEP READING.... I was so frustrated now that I was ready to trade it or sell it, so on a hunch I took it to Stuttgart Autohaus (in same auto repair mall as Goldenwest Transmission) and had Dean tear down the intake manifold and inspect the injectors - yup some of you maybe gue... view moressed it - the injectors had been routed incorrectly when i originally had the intake manifold replaced. I guess the vehicle`s computer was able to compensate enough with the problem to keep the vehicle in operation, but would intermittently stumble or `thump` as I was driving which hastened the wear on the original transmission. When Jerry learned of the discovery of the problem and saw it himself he was genuinely interested and happy for me that the problem had been discovered and solved.
I don`t know if Goldenwest is the cheapest, maybe not, but then again I don`t want to screw around with cheap tranny parts and service. I`ll gladly pay for a transmission job done right the first time. That transmission is somewhat of a mystery to most of us, and the kind of repair that if not done right - can leave you on the side of the road. So I gotta say after two rebuilds, one on his dime, to work with me and not just tell me to pound sand, I think he is a pretty honest Joe.
I should have written this about two years ago, but I blew it.
Sorry Jerry - but thank you so much, your work and service was much appreciated and hard to come by these days.

An Honest Shop
It`s hard to trust mechanics these days. We all know that. Jerry at Goldenwest Transmission can definitely be trusted to take care of you. I highly recommend him. He took care of me, and all my families cars.

Dear Confused Maritza
In response to your comments, notice that there were many details left out regarding insurance company, and the body and fendor shop who installed the wrong transmission with wrong gear ratio, causing computer problems, which goldenwest trans spent endless hours figuring out, and communicating with the body shop and the insurance company, all in order to help you, Maritza. unfortunately, you failed to appreciate and... view more see the hard work and time and effort to resolve your transmission needs, and Goldenwest Transmission only charged you $300 labor plus the computer of $130, which was needed in the diagnosing. The other shop you mentioned has been servicing your family for many years, and despite their time and effort in working with you, you failed to pay them for their work in the amount of $1400. They do accept checks when it is previously arranged, unfortunately you brought to their attention that there was insuffiecient funds in your checking and that you had just deposited money. This is why GoldenWest Trans asked to contact the bank. I can only hope that your negative and confused comments does not prevent any potential future customers that would benefit greatly from the service, from coming to Goldenwest Transmission, who has been satifying customers for over 30 years.
I was shocked by your comments, and inquired from Jerry, the owner, what had happened with this case.
Thank you,
Diane

Disrespected, violated and judged...unreasonable pricing.
Jerry (the owner) would not accept my check accusing me of writing a bad check to him even though this is the first time I have worked with him. I was refered to him from another car repair shop that also did me wrong. His location does not have a sign that say`s he does not accept checks. He tried to get my insurance compant to cover the cost of the repairs on my transmission. When he found out the couldn`t he after... view more he had it for 4 months and all he did was change out the computer in my car when he was supposto be working on my transmission. What is the point of changing out the computer`s and charging me $300 dollars for labor and $130 dollars for the computer replacement when the transmission is still bad?!?!? I was not pleased with the service, the length of time and his interation with me. He made me feel like I was stupid and that I didn`t have money in my bank, he made me call my bank to make sure I had the money in there, he accused me of being a liar. I am disappointed and hurt that there are unjust business`s out there that feel the need to rob from people to have their business. When I was finally getting my car he was giving me someone else`s car! I waited till he was ready to hand over the key`s to tell him that wasn`t my car which made me believe he probably didn`t do anywork to my car.
