Stay away from Truspeed Motorcars, and here`s a reason why.
With a limited supply of used Porsches in Seattle, shopping for one from here usually means looking at cars in other markets like LA.
Having found a Porsche I liked there, the next step was to locate a dealer or find a knowledgeable Porsche repair shop to provide a pre purchase inspection commonly referred to as a PPI.
The local Porsche Dealership was booked for weeks, so under the recommendation of the dea... view moreler I was purchasing from (I know, first mistake) I chose to have the car taken to the service department at Truspeed Motorcars. Yup, second mistake.
It would seem from their website that Truspeed should know a thing or two about Porsches. However, their inspection missed at least $5,000 worth of immediate repairs right from the get go. Had I known about these issues, I would have skipped this particular car. Porsches are not cheap to maintain and high repair costs are part of owning a P-car, but $5k on top of the purchase of the car would have been nice to know ahead of time. That?s why I hired Truspeed in the first place.
Unfortunately for me, I flew from Seattle and was picked up by the selling dealer and had no time to really inspect the car myself. When I first looked at it, I was surprised that Truspeed had given it such a good recommendation, but since I thought they were reputable, I sucked it up and drove it home.
Ugh, I should have listened to my gut and taken a cab back to the airport instead.
When I made it home, I immediately took the Porsche to my mechanic who I?ve been using for years (and really does know Porsches), and we immediately found so many things Truespeed missed that I had to just shake my head. I?m not talking things that would have been difficult to notice either. We?re talking things like rusted caliper bolts with cracks in them. Do they even have a rack at Truspeed?
Anyway, if you need Porsche service, don?t make the mistake of trusting Truspeed Motorcars service department like I did for any kind of expertise.
