I took my car in for new tires and a tune up. I was charged $93.75 for their Platinum Tune up Package. They broke something and did not tell me nor did they fix it. My car was returned to me in poor condition. It backfired , the `service engine` light came on, oit woul not be able to go up hills or accelerate without backfiring. It sounded like the timing was off and it was not running on all cylinders. I took... view more it back 2 more times, the last time the service manager refused to open the hood. I had to take it to another mechanic who charged me $131.32 to fix what Pep Boys did. Pep Boys also charged me for the handling of all four tires, yet I kept one. $1.50 for the tire.

When I first took it back, their excuse for the poor performance was I had an oil leak. I did not nor do I now have an oil leak. They wanted to charge me $100 to fix it. Even a non mechanic would know better than to believe such a story about an oil leak causing an auto to misfire, backfire, etc.

Once disproved, the manager (Lizardo Maldonaldo) told me that the new spark plugs were causing the poor performance. Is this how they do tune ups? Heck, just do the tune up. Do not break anything, do not do anything else. Just do the tune up, which, by the way, did not consist of an oil, oil filter or air filter change, nothing other than the 4 spark plugs (as far as materials go) and labor for almost $100. And for what? Certainly not a tune up. Especially not a Platinum Tune Up!!

I used to work as a mechanic back in the 90`s, so I do know something about engines. Oil leak? New spark plugs? come on.

I followed protocol and first discussed the matter with the Service manager, then the Regional manager, then finally I filed a formal complaint with Pep Boys. The regional manager called me after that, and asked for the receipts. This was three weeks ago. I haven`t heard a thing from anyone from Pep Boys or representing Pep Boys since dropping off the receipts (copies).
