Worth The Drive
I live in Downey and driving to Active Trans in Pasadena is deffenetly worth it. I have a 2002 V W Jetta that started to have shifting issues. I called a few dealers for prices and boy did i find out its not cheap to get transmission work done. I decided to call shops and Active was the one shop that explained every step that was going to be done and gave a great price. I am so happy that small shops still excist an... view mored honest ones like Active Transmission , even better.

Buyer Beware!
Can I give zero stars?
Take your car to this shop if you want to be scammed out of your money. My 2002 VW Cabrio transmission went out and I was referred to Active Transmission by Hrant Auto (whom I love, by the way). Dale quoted me a rebuild that cost about $3k and told me that a new transmission was not an option because VW did not make my transmission anymore. I took what he said at face value because
1) I ... view morehave always trusted Hrant and
2) Dale is actually a personable guy and I believed him.
That was my biggest mistake. I told him to go ahead and rebuild the transmission. Less than three months later, the tranny goes again. It was before the warranty expired and after Dale checked it out, he said it would cost another $1K to fix. I didn`t understand why it would cost more money to fix it if it was still under warranty. They were steadfast, take it or leave it. I called VW just to see if they had my transmission...they DO! And they said what Active Transmission told me was a bunch of BS (please excuse my language). A new transmission with labor would have cost $3500. I was so livid. And stuck. I could pull the car out, get a new transmission and be out $7500 or pay the $1k to have them rebuild again. Being broke now, I agreed to Active Transmission`s service. The car had been in their shop for weeks now and I desperately needed the car for work. I was burnt out from dealing with the shop and I felt strongarmed in giving them my business. Now, two months after the warranty has expired, the tranny has gone out again. I called VW for a quote and guess what, this time I can get one for $3k. What a joke. I was always told not to take my car to a dealer for repairs but this time I should have. Always do your research and if you want to deal with faulty service and part with your hard-earned money, then take your car to Active Transmission.

Satisfied Customer-7
After having my Ford Explorer serviced at Aamco and after multiple problems and no one being able to figure it out. I paid over $400.00 at other shops and my car still did not work. I took it to Active Transmission and they found out it was the Transfer Case. Philip gave me a great deal and instead of putting in a used Transfer Case he rebuilt mine for the cost of a used one, saving me money.
Thanks Philip and Dale... view more!

Will not honor warrenty
The owner (Phil) was the owner of RPM Transmissions where he repaired my transmission about 11 months ago. He gave me a 12 month / 12000 mile warranty. I was having problems with my transmission so I took it back to him. He told me he was repairing the transmission, but in reality, he was filing to sell his company while my car just sat on his lot. In the mean time, I filed a claim with the BBB against RPM transmissi... view moreon, not knowing it was under new management. The new owner said that Phil (the owner of Active Transmission) filed paperwork saying that he would take care of any warranty issues from his prior ownership at RPM at his current shop (active transmissions). It has been over two months now, and I have been calling his shop at least 20 times. I have given all of my information, but he refuses to even call me back or to honor his contracts. This owner is not a man of his word and in the end i had to pay for his character flaws.

worst shop in california!!!
hello, i have been re building and restoring cars for over 20 years, active transmission is the worst shop i have ever encountered in all my years of wrenching on cars.. they hook you in with the smooth talking dale at the desk, and tell you everything you want to hear, promise performance parts, but when you bring the car back from it performing so bad and they open up the transmission if you walk over and inspect i... view moret all you will find is stock and re built parts at best.. my car made it about 50 miles the first trip out, about 400 miles the second, and now its barely driveable at all with only 834 miles since they did the re build. slipping in all gears, holding gears and not shifting unless you let off the gas, it constantly searches for gears, and has the most violent shudder going back to first gear i have ever encountered in a car. i took the car to the pontiac dealer and had them drive it, they told me my transmission was no good, and was re assembled incorrectly probably with low quality parts, and told me good luck on getting the thing home. they are a horrible shop, and will just rip you off.. my car is performing worse after them re building it then it did when i took it in, and i had no fourth gear when i went in! do not go to this place, and keep there hands far away from your car. dale is a shiester, offering sweet promises via words, but not actions.i already filed with the ***, and they didnt have record of this shop, which dale told me had been open for 20 plus years..they are now helping me to get a full refund, and i told them they could have the transmission back in exchange for a refund because its a peice of garbage and will not be rebuildable after all the mistakes they made on it.. all in all it was a very disappointing experience, and i will tell everyone i know in the car business that i work with on a daily basis to avoid the place like the plague.
