NEW OWNER IS AWESOME!!!!!
I haven`t been here since before this guy ""Greg"" you are all raving about BUT I went and there is a new owner!! His name is Tony and he had some bad news my car`s computer was kaput!!! He gave me three options as far as price (I chose the longer wait with the cheapest price because I am between jobs) Well it was way quicker than he said it would be and my car is up and going again for 1/3 what the dealer said it wo... view moreuld cost if that was the problem... I have a new mechanic and apparently after talking with others he just moved from another location and everyone says he is honest and great at his job yay!!!

The right mechanic for all of my vehicles.
Our family in Silverlake has a wide variety of cars-foreign and domestic, older and new. Greg has taken great care of all of them for years now. It is so convenient to have one dependable place in the neighborhood to do it all. This guy knows his stuff! He provides friendly, timely, excellent service. I will continue to recommend him highly to my friends and neighbors.

5/7/2010 I have to wonder about all of the people who love Greg so much. No offense, but I have NEVER been treated so rudely by someone in my entire life.
I called and made an appointment a few weeks in advance to have a 30K mile check up done and asked if I could drop my car off the evening before. Greg agreed and told me that he leaves at 5:30pm.
In order to get t... view moreo the shop on time, I went into work an hour early and left at 5pm on the dot since I work just downtown about 15 minutes away. On the way to the shop, I called Greg to assure him that I was on my way and he responded with a very exasperated ""I have to leave really soon."" To which I replied, ""but you told me you leave at 5:30!"" At this point, folks, he HUNG UP THE PHONE ON ME! Yes, you read that right, hung up the phone. I thought I would give him the benefit of the doubt and called back, assuming that we had gotten disconnected. And hold your horses, this guy hung up AGAIN!!! Before I could even get a word in... click!
Now, my boyfriend is rushing to meet me so that we can leave my car overnight. I too am rushing to get there before Greg leaves. I don`t know what to do but I figure, let me give him a few minutes and call one last time. I wait about five minutes, call and get his answering machine. Since he isn`t picking up, I don`t know if he has left or is still there or what, but I can`t get over that anyone would treat a customer this way.
I get to the shop at about 5:25pm (five minutes before he told me that he needed to leave) and he is totally gone, locked up, closed and done. There is no one there and it is clear no one is coming back.
Thankfully, my boyfriend came and took me over to his mechanic`s shop. Pacific Auto saves the day (at the intersection of Hoover and Santa Monica - 5 solid stars on yelp!!!).
I am one of the most loyal people I know and I can assure you that I will NEVER go back to Norman`s and would never recommend this guy to ANYONE I cared about. If you go to Greg, I wish you good luck and hope that this kind of thing never happens to you!

Best Mechanic in LA
It`s been a while since I went to Norman`s, but my experience there was great. The mechanic was very accommodating and helpful--he explained why the check engine light was on and didn`t lie about the severity to get me to pay more. My car was finished in one day and he gave me a discount because I had him fix my cabin fan too, which had been broken for a long time.
All in all, a great experience and the work has ... view moreheld up for over a year.

Norman`s Automotive Repair Rules.
I had my `83 Mercedes towed in to Norman`s because my key wouldn`t turn, and I couldn`t drive my car. He changed the ignition switch and made new keys in one day. My car had been sitting in my drive way for four months while I had been saving up to have it fixed, so he also filled up my tires with air and refreshed all the fluids in the car. He did all this for a quarter of the cost I had been quoted by other mech... view moreanics. They had recommended I change all four parts of the ignition, while Greg simply changed one. Unfortunately, it wasn`t enough. The next day, I drove to the dry cleaners and couldn`t start my car to leave. I called the shop and, to my surprise, Greg picked me up, took me home, and paid to have my car towed back in to Norman`s. He replaced one more part of the ignition (the housing) in one day again. He didn`t even charge me for the labor, just for the part. Now it works every time!

Honest, fair, nice and inexpensive - what more could you want from the neighborhood mechanic?
Greg, the guy who owns/manages the place, is great. Honest, nice, and inexpensive local place to get your car repaired. We`ve lived in silverlake since `03 and Greg has maintained/fixed/repaired our Honda Pilot, Infiniti, and Jeep. Call ahead to make sure he can take you - best to get there early in the morning (open on Saturday mornings too) -
We had to totally recondition a `96 infiniti we bought a few year... view mores back - the car works great now and we have never had any problems.
Nice thing about Greg is he will tell you what you have to do, what you should do, and what you could do to make your car better. I wouldn`t my cars anywhere else -
