We purchased this Scion XA new in May of 2005.  It has never had a mechanical issue of any kind.  The car averaged 40 MPG on the original tires, but when I replaced them I chose a lower mileage tire for better traction in the wet.  Now the car averages 37 miles per gallon, if driven with restraint. The engine consumes no oil, leaks nothing, and needs nothing.  The oil was changed recently and the oil and filter have been changed every 5,000 miles for the life of the car.
The car has AM FM CD radio, power windows and locks, cruise control (dealer added), and a four speed automatic transmission.  The tires on the car are in excellent condition, with only 6,000 miles on them.  All keys and manuals go with the car.
The body shows it’s age a bit.  There is minor hail damage on the top and hood, just a few small dents,  which no one sees unless the car is clean and I tell them to look.  There is a tiny dent in the driver’s door from a lawn mower thrown rock.  The right rear door has a small dent where a deer ran into it.  (The deer kept on going.)  One hubcap has some curb rash.
There is a Curt class one trailer hitch on the car which has been used to pull a small all-aluminum trailer with light loads for short distances.  (The Aluma brand ATV trailer is available only if bought with the car, for an additional $400.)  The hitch would be perfect for carrying bicycles.  The trailer also has helped us to avoid having a truck for many years.  There is currently no wiring for the trailer lights, as they are not required in my state if the lights on the tow vehicle are visible.  The car is only for sale because we have purchased a small truck.  Something's GOT to go!  The title is here, in my name, ready to go.  There are no issues with this car.  It has never been driven by anyone under the age of 60.
If the car is purchased with a cashiers check, it must be picked up during banking hours to allow verification of the check.  (My signature needs to be notarized on the title also.)  No personal checks, please.

Toyota profits up 23% on high US sales, despite mounting legal costs

Tue, 05 Feb 2013

Toyota earned $9.3 billion in net income in the financial year that ends next month. The number beats earlier forecasts and marks a five-year high for the automaker, with both operating income and revenue up by 9.5 percent and 2.5 percent, respectively. Toyota saw quarterly profit enjoy a year-on-year jump of 23.4 percent, with the manufacturer earning more than $1 billion between October and December 2012. The good news comes in spite of the fact that the Japanese automaker actually endured an operating loss in North America, due in part to legal fees.
Toyota is set to pay more than $1 billion to owners who claim their vehicles decreased in value as a result of the company's recent spate of recalls. Even so, all three of the automaker's brands enjoyed a 13.5 percent sales increase in the US in the last quarter, beating the industry average. Toyota faltered in Europe, however, where it earned $99 million in operating profit last year, compared to $111 million in 2011. You can take a closer look at the company's full press release below for more information.

2014 Scion xD's available two-tone paint says 'I'm still here!'

Thu, 10 Oct 2013

As we said in the title, the news here isn't a new, two-tone paint job for the Scion xD - it's that Scion is still building the oddly proportioned hatchback. For 2014, the xD will be available in two different color combinations, which will be split at the car's beltline.
The first combo, Magnetic Gray Metallic and Black Sand Pearl, puts the lighter shade on the bottom and the darker shade up top. The other combo, Sparkling Sea Metallic and Classic Silver Metallic (pictured), puts the more eye-catching color on the bottom.
Interested customers will need to shell out an additional $500 for the two-tone look. Other changes for the 2014 xD include a standard, 6.1-inch touchscreen display, Bluetooth audio streaming and a iPod/USB connectivity.

J.D. Power study sees new car dependability problems increase for first time since 1998

Wed, 12 Feb 2014

For the first time since 1998, J.D. Power and Associates says its data shows that the average number of problems per 100 cars has increased. The finding is the result of the firm's much-touted annual Vehicle Dependability Study, which charts incidents of problems in new vehicle purchases over three years from 41,000 respondents.
Looking at first-owner cars from the 2011 model year, the study found an average of 133 problems per 100 cars (PP100, for short), up 6 percent from 126 PP100 in last year's study, which covered 2010 model-year vehicles. Disturbingly, the bulk of the increase is being attributed to engine and transmission problems, with a 6 PP100 boost.
Interestingly, JDP notes that "the decline in quality is particularly acute for vehicles with four-cylinder engines, where problem levels increase by nearly 10 PP100." Its findings also noticed that large diesel engines also tended to be more problematic than most five- and six-cylinder engines.
