Scion trying to build business case for FR-S convertible as Subaru bows out

Hope may remain for a convertible version of the Scion FR-S, according to a report from Ward's Auto. You'll recall that rumors were swirling about the feasibility of a rear-drive Toyobaru convertible as early as October, and that back in November, Subaru - which makes the FR-S, Subaru BRZ and Toyota GT86 - essentially nixed the idea of an open-topped variant.
"We make the car, so if we don't make it, it can't happen," brand chief Yasuyuki Yoshinaga told Automotive News, according to Ward's, at the Tokyo Motor Show. "Our engineering department told me that losing the entire roof requires a complete redesign of the structure. It would need a big change."
Despite Yoshinaga-san's arguments against a droptop variant, Toyota is apparently still considering the model. Speaking to media at the 2014 North American International Auto Show, Scion's US vice president, Doug Murtha, hinted that the rear-drive droptop was in the works.

Scion tC Release Series 10.0 is a limited-edition sayonara

We wish Scion could have gone out with a bang. But nope, it's yet another of the brand's Release Series models. The long-running group of special editions has been hit-or-miss over the years, but seemed to find its grove with its most recent FR-S Release Series 1.0 and 2.0. Scion has made some decent tweaks for its Release Series 10.0, including TRD-branded lowering springs and a TRD exhaust. The Ken Miura body kit is a highlight too, and while Toyota has slathered its Barcelona Red on plenty of vehicles, we think this Scion is the best application of the shade. Other aesthetic changes, like the black badges, gloss-black wheels, and red contrast stitching could have been kitschy, but they actually kind of work. Like all Release Series models, this special tC will be limited to just 1,200 units. Prices start at $23,985 for the manual transmission model or $25,135 for the auto-equipped car. Scion announces FR-S Release Series 1.0 in New York

In the market for a Scion FR-S (or Subaru BRZ), but don't want the same one your neighbor's got? Scion has good news for you. At the New York Auto Show today, the Japanese automaker has announced the availability of this FR-S Release Series 1.0.
As the first Release Series FR-S (the aging xB is debuting its tenth alongside it), this special edition has been spruced up by Toyota Racing Development with a series of visual and aerodynamic enhancements to give the FR-S a bit of extra edge. Included in the Release Series 1.0 is an upgraded aero kit, an exhaust tip for every cylinder in the engine (that makes four, folks), and a lowered suspension with TRD springs and HID headlamps. Did we mention it's all capped by Yuzu yellow paint?
Inside, you'll find black seats with T-pattern upholstery, a TRD steering wheel, shifter and cargo mat, dual-zone climate control and push-button ignition with smart key. Scion isn't saying exactly what this model will cost, but it is saying it will come in under $30,000 (before the $755 delivery charge).
