Hello. The Saturn is owned by a good friends grandmother who no longer can drive. Obviously illustrated by the true low mileage, this car was barely driven. I will describe the car the best I can however I would suggest asking any questions or coming to see the car prior to purchase.
First, as soon as I received the Saturn I changed the engine oil and filter, air filter, transmission fluid and transmission filter. The motor oil looked old but in tact. The transmission fluid looked fine. I have no records on her behalf of services rendered on the Saturn however it looks good throughout. When I arrived to look it over she had a sun shield up. The dash has no cracks or uneven wear. I have now put about 250 miles on the car and plan to put 500 over the weekend just to make sure there are no surprises for the buyer. There are no shakes on the steering wheel or when braking. The tires are in great shape with tons of tread and some dry rot on the outer edges. The suspension is tight and perfectly responsive as if the car was new. All features of the vehicle work like new. The autocheck shows a low score likely because in the State of Maryland, senior citizens are not required to have emissions performed on their vehicle however there are no check engine codes or leaks in the exhaust system. It works and sounds like new. |

GM recalling another 1.3-million cars over power steering woes

General Motors has announced yet another major recall, covering 1.3 million units in the American market over concerns that the power steering could suddenly fail. As reported by The Detroit News' David Shepardson, GM has now recalled nearly ten times as many cars as it did all of last year.
It's important to note that should this problem arise in these cars, the steering won't fail completely, however, power steering could suddenly stop functioning. Manual steering would still be possible, but as GM says, there's an increased risk of accidents, particularly at lower speeds.
Like the ignition switch recall, this latest problem covers a wide range of vehicles from Chevrolet, Saturn and Pontiac. Even though both the Saturn and Hummer brands are being phased out, General Motors has reportedly revived production of both the Outlook crossover and H3 SUV to meet consumer demands.
Last month, GM assembled 1,037 Outlooks at its Lansing, Michigan facility, which is where the crossover's Lamda platform stablemates (Buick Enclave, Chevrolet Traverse and GMC Acadia) are built. A spokesperson for GM states that production was reinstated to utilize the rest of the Saturn-specific material at the facility, and that the automaker will continue to assemble the Outlook for a few more weeks.
Saturn Ion steering probe closed by NHTSA
Tue, 22 Apr 2014The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has closed its investigation into faulty electric power steering motors affecting 334,728 Saturn Ions from 2004-2007, because General Motors has issued a recall for them. The group's research found that the part failed at a high rate in the vehicles.
GM recalled over 1.3 million vehicles a few weeks ago, including the Ion, because the power steering could suddenly fail. If broken, the cars could still turn, but it took greater effort. The automaker is also covering 96,324 2003 Ions with a lifetime warranty for their motors, but it's not immediately replacing them.
NHTSA opened its investigation into the motors in September 2011, and it found 4,787 complaints and 30,560 warranty claims that showed failure for the Ion alone. It estimated a complaint rate of 14.3 incidents per 1,000 vehicles and warranty claim rate of 9.1 percent. The investigation also found evidence of 12 crashes caused by loss of steering, two of which resulted in injuries.
