Small hood indent, and drivers side door seam crease detailed in photos. This is the best '92 I've seen anywhere, and I make it my business to know. It has however been driven a good bit, and despite having been 80-90% garage kept, wear and tear is certainly not invisible here, in line with what I hope you would expect. Please get in touch for any details you desire."

Saab lovers, enjoy! One of the best '92s in existence - inside, outside, mechanically, headliner, dashboard, period. I've updated that pesky throttle computer to the version they used in the later Aeros - bingo! Numerous subtle performance upgrades including exhaust, ECM, and suspension. The wheels - oh, the wheels. I've even got an extra set, and for that matter, an extra running(ish) numbers (and paint) matching '92 turbo parts car, either or both of which I can offer you at additional cost. Alas, it seems I'm getting out of the game... time for you to take advantage! Oh yeah, and it goes like a bat out of hell. The Swedish plate on the front is a shortening of the name I've come up with...  Svenskapow!
The paint and body are in Very VERY Good condition.  I've tried to detail all noticeable issues in photos.  Things that were impractical or impossible to photograph are listed here. There are approx. 3 tiny chips on the front sides of things here and there, the airdam is completely in tact, and looking quite good, though it has touched the ground on very seldom occasion.  There is a sub-dime-sized bubble that is miles away from actually breaking through the paint on the front flare of the driver's side rear wheel-well, and that's really it.  Just Look At It!!!
The two mechanical/electrical issues I am aware of at this time are that the SRS sensor light blinks in the instrument cluster, and that the cruise control doesn't work.  The cruise went with my throttle computer update, and as the computer that runs the cruise lives right next door to the throttle control unit, under the driver's seat, I suspect this function can be restored simply - and I know a guy who could help, if you don't.
Pricing on extras will be as follows.  Spare set of pristine identical wheels including hard to find low profile Blizzaks with under 1000 miles on them - $900.  Spare set of nice Saab Alloy Wheels of a smaller diameter with low mileage winter tires - $700.  Identical (save for the interior color) Great Shape Parts Car - $1200
I am the third caring and loving owner of this piece of automotive art.  I purchased it two and a half years ago from the second owner in Chicago, and while keeping it garaged and in pristine shape, I've put less than 5000 miles on it myself.
I encourage longer distance buyers to take this listing seriously.  If you're outside of a 600 mile radius of Pittsburgh, please get in touch to talk pickup/delivery plans before bidding.  Otherwise I can drive to you (potentially at shared expense depending on distance), drive to meet you halfway, or make the car available for pickup at the Pittsburgh Airport.  I have complete confidence in the car's readiness for even cross-country-sized road trips.
Work done within the past month - Brand new uniroyal low profile tigerpaw all season tires, Full Synthetic Oil Change, Air Conditioning Dye and Recharge, Full PA State and County Emissions Inspection, and a brand new NOS Saab Headlight Switch.
Clutch is in Great Shape and has a confidence inspiring middle to low engagement point.  Groundbreaking (for 1992) electronic throttle and integrated traction control system are in full working order, and the traction control can be tastefully deleted by many clever Saab shops around the country.  Since chipped, horsepower has been in the 220-240 range, aftermarket suspension is tight and quite level in the corners, full stainless exhaust looks great and sounds even better (on the pleasant side of tasteful but still throaty).  This engine loves the 2500-4500rpm range, and so does the boost gauge.  I have service records going back to the dawn of time.
If you're looking for a nice, fast, fun, and practical vintage Saab, what more could you want?  I'm sure someone of you can answer that question, so get in touch, and I'll do my best to get you what you need in terms of info, assurances, and additional photos.
WINNER TAKES THE RIDE IN THIS NO-RESERVE AUCTION - BID WITH CONFIDENCE, THIS IS THE REAL DEAL!!!!!

Junkyard Gem: 1983 Saab 900 Turbo 4-Door Hatchback

Sun, Mar 20 2022

I've been finding quite a few interesting Saabs in Colorado car graveyards lately, including a 96 and a 99 (sadly, a discarded example of a Saab 92 has eluded me — at least in the United States — so far), and now it's the turn of the factory-hot-rod Saab that gave car shoppers more horsepower per dollar than anything they could buy from Germany at the time: the 900 Turbo. I found this car a few weeks back in a yard just south of Denver. Saab sold the original version of the 900 in the United States for the 1979 through 1993 model years (after that, the 900 name went on a car based on the Opel Vectra and closely related to the Saturn L-Series), and the early 900s looked very much like their 99 ancestors. Saab was an early adopter of turbocharging, and so the 900 Turbo was available here for the entire 1979-1993 sales run. This engine, a 2-liter slant-four derived from a 1960s Triumph design (and first cousin to the engine used in the Triumph TR7), was rated at 135 horsepower in 1983. That was big power for a small car in the Late Malaise Era, and it gave the 1983 Saab 900 Turbo a power-to-weight ratio similar to what you got in the Mitsubishi Starion and Porsche 944 that year. Electronic fuel injection finally made turbocharging work well for everyday driving (though the Maserati Biturbo stuck with blow-throw Weber carburetors all the way through 1986 in the United States), and it wasn't long before TURBO became a magical word. Yes, by 1984 you had Ozone and Turbo break-dancing while Ice-T makes his film debut. A few years earlier, with the (carbureted) Turbo Trans Am's not-so-stellar reliability on display, Boogaloo Shrimp's character would have been assigned a different name. Though it's possible, based on the fact that at least one 1980s boombox was built from a Saab 900 dash, that Turbo's name was inspired by Saab. Saab should get credit for doing so much to push turbocharging into the daily-driver mainstream. You could get a three-speed Borg-Warner automatic transmission in your new 1983 Saab 900, but it added 370 bucks (about $1,075 in 2022 dollars) to the cost of the car and made it much less fun to drive. This one has the 5-speed manual; I assume the E next to fifth gear stands for "efficiency." The five-door 900 Turbo listed at $16,910 with five-speed manual, which comes to about $49,055 today. A new BMW 528e cost $23,985 that year ($69,580 now) and offered just 121 horsepower.

Petrolicious keeps our love of the Saab Sonett aflame

Wed, 19 Mar 2014

German auto designs lean toward function and purpose. Italian designers deliver passion and beauty. The Brits, majesty. American cars, brashness and authority. If you want a funky design, though, you go to Sweden. The land of cheap, do-it-yourself furniture and delicious meatballs knows a thing or six about style and design, and while that character is only now reemerging thanks to a certain string of Volvo concepts, it use to be that Saab was the authority on penning some of the industry's more unique designs.
Take the beautiful Sonett for example - a small coupe whose appearance is a funky mishmash of a Porsche 911 and a Bugeyed Sprite with just a hint of a Citroën DS (it's that convex rear window). It's a positively striking car, made more unique by its two-stroke, three-cylinder powertrain and four-on-the-tree manual transmission. With just 70 horsepower hauling about 1,500 pounds of Swedish style, the Sonett strikes us as an ideal alternative to some of the English sports cars of its day, particularly for those that are looking for something beyond your average MG or Triumph.
For Glenn Roberts, the Sonett was a part of his childhood. His family owned example was originally a special-order item by his parents in 1967. He bought the car from them 13 years later and has never looked back, completing a restoration in 2004. With a story like that, it's not surprising that Roberts and his silver Sonett are the most recent pairing to get some attention from Petrolicious.

NEVS to build new Saab models in China's Qingdao

Thu, 10 Jan 2013

National Electric Vehicle Sweden has officially signed a deal with Qingdao Qingbo Investment Company that will see the NEVS build EVs in Qingdao, China. The move is the first step on the road toward eventually selling vehicles in China. Reuters reports that the Chinese company has agreed to invest $307.33 million, after which point Qingdao Qingbo will receive 22 percent of the NEVS shares. Currently, there's no word on exactly when the funds and shares will change hands, but the Swedish automaker has previously said it fully intends to launch its first EV by early 2014.
NEVS has also made waves about potentially building a version of the old Saab 9-3 with a traditional internal combustion driveline. Currently, the manufacturer says it plans to ship the vehicles it builds in Sweden to the Qingdao port and distribute them to the rest of China from there. Later down the line, a manufacturing facility in Qingdao will supply the country with Chinese-built Saab models.
