See the seller's listing for full details and description of any imperfections.Seller Notes:"The only defects I'm aware of or areas where car is not perfect: center caps on wheels are cosmetically flawed and can be repainted or replaced; minor dings and rock chips as might be expected in a 16 year old car with original paint -as you can see in photos you need to really look to find them; leather shows minimal wear - almost perfect but I don't want to suggest they have no evidence of wear; leather on shift knob shows significant wear; plastic release lever on 1/3 portion of fold-down rear seat on passenger side needs to be replaced; hood struts, that hold hood open work but are weak. Car was inspected by Mile Hi in Denver and by Red Noland Cadillac in Colorado Springs and passed with flying colors. Inspection suggested clutch was showing signs of being at end of service life though it might go another 10-20K miles: I had them replace the clutch - Saab parts, clutch kit, gearbox sleeve, release bearing, resurfaced fly wheel, rear main seal, synthetic fluid."

This vehicle was purchased by an Air Force Officer.  She was stationed in Italy and so the car was shipped to her there from the factory in Trollhatten.  Upon receiving orders to an Air Base just outside of Las Vegas, she shipped the car there.  It was in Las Vegas that the second and only other owners bought the vehicle.  They moved after a number of years to Grand Junction, Colorado.  So the car has always lived in the desert and consequently has no rust.  I have not searched over it with terrific intensity looking for rust, but I can tell you that I have never yet seen even a bolt or screw that is rusted on it.  There is a little on the exhaust pipe and at the muffler, but that is on those components and it is insignificant.  I wanted a rust free car and in a way got more than I'd bargained for.

My plan was to downsize from my 2007 9.3 Sport Combi 60th Anniversary Edition, or have this car be my son's first car as he will turn 16 in February.  I'm still happy to do either as it is a terrific vehicle.

I have owned Saabs since 1976, and so my love for them is irrational.  They have always treated me spectacularly.  But, now that I have driven this one from Colorado to Michigan I cannot help but think this:  I have never seen a Talladega model before, (if you don' t know about Saab having representatives from the sanctioning body choose vehicles off the assembly line to go to the Talledega Raceway in the United States in order to run flat-out for 25,000 miles at 140 mph, look it up.  Saabs records still stand)  Anyway, have never seen one before, and this one ... well, it just belongs in someone's collection, in a climate controlled garage or museum!  I will just feel really guilty if either my son or myself use it as a daily driver in Michigan as it seems to me that the species is about to become extinct and we have probably the BEST example left in the country.  But, take a look at the 90 pictures I've posted on SmugMug through this link and decide for yourself!

(remember there are over 90 photos on 3 pages so don't quit after the first page!)

Anyway, if there is not a collector or someone who wants to give the car a home in a dry climate out there, I'll actually be happy and I think my son will be the big winner...because I feel this car is ideal for him, especially over the '89 Jeep he inherited.  No offense Jeep, but he's going to have his hands full saving for insurance without sacrificing gas mileage, and I'd rather he enjoy Saab safety.

So I guess this ad is just my effort to try to preserve what might be the last and best Talladega, and if it doesn't happen, then we can welcome it to the family with a clear conscience.

Just had it checked out before driving to Michigan from Colorado by the best Saab Tech in Colorado Springs.  He gave it an excellent review but suggested he thought the clutch was at the end of it's service life.  Although he suggested I might get another 10-20K out of it, I had Red Noland Cadillac put new Saab parts - clutch kit, Gearboxforksleeve, release bearing, rear main seal, and synthetic fluid - in it.  Should be golden for at least 100,000 miles I would think!  The previous owners had just had it serviced at Mile-Hi in Denver and they were folks who told the shop just to do whatever needed to be done.  So the car has been pampered and well cared for as far as maintenance goes.

Put in new all weather Weather-Tech matts and cargo matt.  New Bosch Icon (front) Evolution (rear) wiper blades.  Fresh Mobil 1 oil and Mann filter.  A the car was super clean, spent a day detailing it to my standards.

Feel free to call if you have questions, I could go on, but if you've read this far I'm lucky because it means I've found another irrational Saab lover.

The car is as it looks in the pictures.  On the drive from Colorado I got stuck in the miles of 55 mph limit roads through Illinois and the blessing was that I got 35.3 miles per gallon.

The car leaks nothing, it is that most amazing of all things - a dry Saab!

So, here we go, I find out if it stays or if it goes.  Once we get past this last-ditch effort to do the moral thing it will become part of the family and my son will join the ranks of Saab fanatics.

Thanks for looking!

I'm happy to assist with your shipping plans so long as they take my schedule into account.
Happy to pick you up at the Grand Rapids airport.
Will need a Bank Check or Money Order within 4 days of close of auction.
We could garage it for you for a couple of weeks.
If you need longer I don't mind getting you Title and Bill of Sale and suggesting climate controlled storage facilities here so long as you are willing to contract with the storage facility and pay for that service.

Son Surprises Mom With Dream Car

Thu, Aug 14 2014

We can't get enough of these dream car-reveals. Here's the latest one: A son wanted to treat his mom to the car she's had her eye on for years, but it wasn't a restored Porsche or a fancy 1957 Chevy Bel Air. This mom wanted something special – a 1973 Saab 99 EMS painted disco-fever copper. Ever since he was a kid, Corey Wadden's mom has wanted the Saab. Wadden writes on his YouTube video that she first hopped in the driver's seat of one of these odd retro rides while working as a cleaning lady. One of her clients would toss her the keys and let her move the car. She fell in love. After a year of searching and saving, this nominee for best son in the world brought his mom down to the parking lot, where her dream ride awaited. First, he handed her an envelope with a picture of the car and the keys, a dead giveaway. She quickly put two and two together, and lost it before making it to the parking lot. She is so happy and full of gratitude that she actually drops to her knees when he opens the door. Wadden writes on his page that his mom lost her job two-and-a-half years ago and hasn't had a reliable car in years. This car aims not just to get her mobile again, but lift her spirits. It's also part of the Toronto entrepreneur's promise to become a millionaire by the time he is 25 to help his mother retire. Related Gallery The Best Cars For Empty Nesters Weird Car News Saab

eBay Find of the Day: 1985 Saab Turbo Limo is the ultimate high school reunion ride

Wed, 18 Jul 2012

Yes, we've seen this 1985 Saab 900 Turbo limo for sale before. But somehow, this time is just seems more right. And we've got more pictures this go-around.
With the Saab brand now dormant and little hope for a true renaissance, save for one that comes in name only, Saab's future must lie in the celebration of great cars of its past. And what better way to celebrate the wonderful Saab 900 than to chop it in half and turn it into a freaking limousine?
Claimed to have been built by a Denver area Saab specialist, this five-speed manual 900 Turbo is listed with a Buy It Now of $8,500. It's actually surprisingly well turned-out, too, with a pretty decent interior that sticks to real Saab seats, avoiding the crushed-velvet or button-festooned lounge chair look. While this seems rather spendy for a well-used limousine, good luck finding another one like it. And besides, that's a lot less than the $12,500 asking price from back in 2010.

Saab begins 9-3 EV pilot production

Thu, 10 Apr 2014

To say that Saab has had a tough time lately would be like saying that it's been a little colder than usual this winter. After General Motors finally gave up and sold it to Spyker in 2010, Saab declared bankruptcy the following year. GM successfully blocked Spyker from selling Saab to Chinese automaker Youngman the following year, but ultimately it ended up in the hands of another Chinese consortium called NEVS. Standing as it does for National Electric Vehicle Sweden, the new owners promised not only to restart production of the long-suffering 9-3, but also to turn it into an electric vehicle. And that's just what it's doing.
The latest news coming out of Sweden indicates that NEVS/Saab has started building the first examples of the 9-3 EV. These first 200 or so examples are set to be shipped off to Qingdao - the Chinese city that is home to the Tsingtao brewery, hosted the sailing components of the 2008 summer games on Beijing, was supposed to host an IndyCar race in 2012 before it was canceled, and also itself just happens to own 22 percent of NEVS.
These first EVs have their batteries mounted down low in the chassis for a low center of gravity and have a range of about 20 miles on a full charge. That's absolutely paltry compared to the other EVs on the market: a Nissan Leaf will travel more than four times that distance, and a Tesla Model S will go ten times farther on a charge.
