Winnabow, North Carolina, United States
$900.00 OBO, don't be afraid to offer. Only needs alternator (belt is off for alternator exchange, as well as the tire for access, but the tire will be put back on) to run n go. Brand New Battery, one run in. the alternator bolt was rounded out, now drilled and harder than my cheap tap bits. I'm getting another truck; don't have the time for this Sweet Bessy. :* t'was magn?fico. car goes hour and back 4 days a week for school, works all the time except for few times it doesn't, then always back up n running like a beast / platypus. Basically The unit needs normal repair and has moderate usage at a 198,892 mile Saab, so electronically should be assumed at this point; the car has the typical factory low voltage never corrected, radio's works comparable the to 90's; digital display is old/missing elements/voltage and security locked, I don't call tech support much, that's what it takes, Once you get the code from them the 6 disk changer is in the trunk. Saab phone conversation. The driver seat is wonky. Don't press up , serious time and effort to make it go down. also driver seat is slightly damaged; immediate to the exterior of the car. Occasional non start, most likely due to the low voltage , or a problem with the centrally located ignition switch in the ignition from time and H2O; Different fixes, profit gaining product obsolescence. It needs most seals ideally for restoration (leaks oil/trans, the power steering from the reservoir bottom - new line and reservoir would be best; get a reservoir from a junker if you can), so take it apart and put it together w/ maintenance checks and minor parts for perfection in soon to be classic taste. The gear box regulator mechanism, possibly called a neutral safety switch, but Saab style, on top, under the battery, if new replacement $300-400, said to be repairable with cleaning and greasing, mechanical/electrical component. causes gear slip up 1 out of 20-48 days, stuck wont shit for a sec or until it does. needs to be fixed for proper restoration, or child care purposes. The roof leaks in moderately heavy rain or with sitting, this can be repaired at a shop though at a low cost to value ratio. Blown spare on Saab normal rim in the trunk. New valve cover gasket I installed due to small leak, 3 months ago approximately. |

Junkyard Gem: 1971 Saab 96
Sat, Jan 9 2021Americans could buy the very first mass-produced Saab car, the 92, all the way back in 1950. Few did, because a tiny and odd-looking Swedish car with a smoky two-stroke engine buzzing out 25 horsepower didn't seem suitable for highway use, especially when a new Plymouth business coupe sold for $1,371 (about $15,180 today). Then came the 93, notable to Americans mostly for being sold by novelist Kurt Vonnegut's Saab dealership in Massachusetts. The first Saab to win over respectable numbers of American car shoppers was the 96, introduced here for the 1961 model year. North American 96 sales continued through 1973, and I've managed to find one of the later 96s in a junkyard located near Pikes Peak in Colorado. North American sales of the much less oddball 99 began in the 1969 model year, and that car evolved directly into the original 900 that sold very well through the early 1990s. Still, some Americans living in icy regions stayed loyal to the 96, so Saab kept selling 96s here until federal emissions and safety regulations made such sales unprofitable. Meanwhile, Scandinavians could buy new 96s all the way through 1980. My grandfather, a self-taught engineer who set foot outside the city limits of St. Paul, Minn., only to race Corvettes at Elkhart Lake (in summer) and all manner of rust-prone imports on frozen lakes (in winter), had this Saab 96 when I was a kid. The somewhat uneven bodywork near street level is the result of house-paint-over-Bondo corrosion repairs, and I recall going on some terrifying high-speed rides around town with Grandpa, circa 1975, watching the pavement flash by through the holes in the floor as we headed to the VFW for the meat raffle. Hey, the St. Paul VFW had Grain Belt on tap for cheap, a consolation for those who failed to win any meat. After that, a man could take his Saab to an establishment selling authentic St. Paul booya. As I recall, this Saab finally broke in half at an ice race in the late 1970s and got replaced by a slightly less rusty Rabbit. The serious Saab 96 nuts— including my grandfather— preferred the two-stroke three-cylinder engine, due to its chainsaw racket and allegedly superior performance on ice. By 1969, however, a Ford-produced V4 became the only powerplant available in a new 96 on our shores (the V4 had been an option for a couple of years prior to that). Someone grabbed the 65-horsepower V4 before I reached this car.
Victor Muller to pay Sweden back taxes for Saab work
Thu, 03 Oct 2013Victor Muller, Saab's CEO from 2010 to 2011, has been ordered by the Swedish court to pay the back taxes he owes the country for his work at Saab, Autoweek and Volkskrant report. When he was the automaker's CEO he received a salary of about 8 million Swedish Krona ($1.25 million), which was recorded as a reward for consultancy work for a company in the US that Muller owns. The move allowed him to evade taxes for awhile, but the court has ordered him to pay taxes on his full salary.
Muller, who is also CEO of Spyker, and two other Saab executives were accused of accounting fraud in May, which took place in 2010 and 2011. According to reports, Muller maintains that he is not subject to taxes in Sweden.
Deal brokered to get Saab warranty service honored at GM dealers
Mon, 24 Dec 2012When Pontiac, Hummer and Saturn were killed off, at least current owners never had to question where they would have to take their vehicle in case it needed to be serviced. The same couldn't be said for Saab owners... until now. General Motors and Saab Automobile Parts North America (the remaining entity of the bankrupted automaker) have signed an agreement that provides 179 service centers to current Saab owners to receive factory-trained technicians and official Saab replacement parts.
These warranty service providers will have all the tools, training and parts to maintain and repair Saab vehicles, and they will also have access to a technical assistance center for the technicians. Next year, SPNA will also set up a customer assistance center, which will likely be most useful in helping current owners find repair shows, as well as a program called Saab Secure to give added service support to owners of late model (2010 and 2011 model year) Saab vehicles. Finally, to make sure customers have a sufficient parts supply to keep their cars on the road, SPNA operates out of a 153,000 square foot warehouse in Michigan that has the ability to ship more than 3,000 parts orders per day.
GM's official press release on the agreement is posted after the jump.
