FOR SALE: 1997 SAAB 900-SE TURBO CONVERTIBLE.

This convertible is my own "baby". If you are not already a Saab lover, this will make you one.
If you look on-line and read some of the Saab Blogs, the cars built before General Motors got involved are considered "The Real Saab's".

I like that it's a 4-cylinder, fuel injected, turbo charged car, and the engine has a timing CHAIN, not a timing BELT.
I can get 28 miles per gallon (MPG) on the highway.
A/C blows nice and cold. (Good heat too.)

The convertible top works very well with no problems. All electric windows work, electric adjustable seats
and a great radio with CD changer in the trunk.

A great car with amazing gas mileage, very reliable, very safe, totally fun to drive, leather and just drop dead beautiful.
I will tell you it always gets Mobil-1 oil changes and has regular check-ups.
New tires only 6-months ago (see photos) and a new fuel pump and a new throttle cable at the same time.

Heater and Air Conditioning works great. Clutch and transmission feel great, no issues. She starts, runs and drives and brakes beautifully.

I can get between 18 to 20 MPG around town and 28 MPG on long trips.  ...and look great doing it !!!  Smooth and comfortable.
This car has a nice digital read out for mileage, trips, temp, ETA  and a whole host of other functions.

This car does have some minor blemishes:
There is a small tear in the drivers seat, (down low on the left corner of the back section.) If I keep the car, I will install sheepskin covers on the seats.
There are also small cracks in the tail light lens, (center section) the left headlamp outside glass is cracked, (still works fine.) and 3 small hairline cracks in the bottom center section of the windshield.  ( I had the local "Ding Doctor" repair the windshield.)

There are some scuff marks on the corners of the bumper and some very very light parking lot marks on the body. (you will never see them.)
Also, there is a mark in the heater LCD display, (see photo) but you can still read the settings.

The "SRS airbag" light is on and the electric radio antenna stays at half mast, but you can hear the antenna motor working.

Please take a look at the pictures, these blemishes are not very visible, but I want to be totally "up-front" since you are not here to see for yourself.
Overall this is a great and reliable car. The problems I listed are all superficial and this is a good "daily driver", plus it's fun and fancy looking.

*** Please feel free to schedule a time to come and see the car before the auction ends, or ask any questions and I will do my best to get you answers in a timely fashion.

For the winning bidder, I can drive the car 150 miles to the Denver International Airport (DIA) and meet you, for an additional $300.
(ie. $1.00 per mile, round trip.)  All funds would have to be cleared in advance.  -Thank you.

THIS WILL BE A GREAT CAR FOR SOME LUCKY PERSON: DAUGHTER, SON, WIFE OR LUCKY GUY LIKE ME.  MY WIFE AND I HAVE HAS SOME WONDERFUL ADVENTURES IN THIS CAR, AND NOW IT'S TIME FOR SOMETHING NEW.

Please bid with confidence.

Junkyard Gem: 1986 Saab 900 Turbo

Fri, May 31 2019

The Saab 900 sold well in Colorado, and owners of these cars tend to hang onto them for decades. For those reasons, I still find 900s while making my rounds of the self-service wrecking yards in the Denver region. The turbocharged models tended to fail more quickly than their naturally-aspirated counterparts, though, so the 900 Turbo can be tough to find today. Here's a 1986 that took its final tow-truck ride into a Denver yard a couple of months back. The 900 received a makeover for the 1987 model year, so today's Junkyard Gem comes from the final year of the 900 with the endearingly 1960s face derived from its 99 predecessor. Most of these cars didn't chug along for quite as many miles as their Volvo 240 countrymen, but that may be attributable more to the differences in driving style between Volvo and Saab owners. The word TURBO had magical connotations during the 1980s, and so most turbocharged cars of the era boasted big, obvious badging. Red car interiors were all the rage during the 1980s and 1990s. Try to imagine the vivid bordellitude of this upholstery before it faded beneath the blazing Colorado sun. Was it a runner when it arrived here? We'll never know. Born from jets, sure, though the original Saab jet was known as "the Flying Barrel" and wasn't especially graceful-looking. Boeing, Saab take first flight in T-X trainer 36 months after starting development

Wed, Dec 21 2016

This post is appearing on Autoblog Military, Autoblog's sub-site dedicated to the vehicles, aircraft and ships of the world's armed forces. Bringing a new fighter from drawing board to its first flight is generally a lengthy endeavor, taking years of planning and tweaking and engineering. Or, at least it normally does. Boeing and Saab just took their new joint-developed training fighter, the T-X, out for its first spin just 36 months after starting development. According to Saab's deputy program manager for the T-X, Eddy De la Motte, that's half the time it usually takes to get a new jet in the sky. "We went from [critical design review] to first flight in 12 months. We don't do that very much at the Boeing Company," Boeing's program manager for the T-X, Ted Torgerson told Defense News. "I don't want to say it has not been done, but for a manned aircraft to go through a complete production-ready design, that is as fast and as efficient as we've ever been through it." Boeing/Saab's first test flight was a simple, 55-minute matter for Boeing test pilots Steven Schmidt and Dan Draeger. The pair took the plane up to 10,000 feet and hit speeds of 231 knots (265 miles per hour) while running handling checks on the twin-tail, single-engine jet. "I've been a part of this team since the beginning, and it was really exciting to be the first to train and fly," pilot Schmidt said. "The aircraft met all expectations. It's well designed and offers superior handling characteristics. The cockpit is intuitive, spacious and adjustable, so everything is within easy reach." "It was a smooth flight and a successful test mission," Draeger, who rode shotgun in the instructor's seat said in an official release. "I had a great all-around view throughout the flight from the instructor's seat, which is critical during training." Boeing/Saab's T-X is one of four jets competing for the role as the US military's next training aircraft. Northrop Grumman is fielding a clean-sheet design that allegedly flew earlier this year, while Lockheed Martin and Raytheon are modifying existing designs with partners – the South Korean KAI T-50 for Lockheed and the Leonardo M-346 for Raytheon. Junkyard Gem: 1987 Saab 900 4-Door Sedan

Sat, Jul 29 2023

Saab sold the original 900 in the United States from the 1979 through 1993 model years (followed by another few years of Opel Vectra-based 900s), and most of the 900s you'll find today are the higher-end models with 16-valve engines and/or turbochargers. Last year in this series, we saw a 900 Turbo and a 900 Turbo Convertible in Colorado car graveyards, and now it's time to take a look at a used-up Colorado 900 with the base 8-valve engine and few extras. The cheapest new 1987 Saab available here was the base three-door hatchback with 5-speed manual transmission, which had an MSRP of $14,395 (about $39,497 in 2023 dollars). If you wanted a new 900 with four doors that year, the price of admission started at $14,805 ($40,622 after inflation). That's the car we've got here. The engine is a 2.0-liter SOHC slant-four, the direct descendant of the engine originally developed in partnership with Triumph for use in the Saab 99 and Triumph Dolomite. The Triumph TR7 used members of this engine family as well. This engine was rated at 110 horsepower and 118 pound-feet. The naturally-aspirated 16-valve version in the '87 900S made 125 horses, while the 900 Turbo had 160 horsepower. The automatic transmission cost an extra $430 (about $1,180 now); most 900 buyers chose the five-on-the-floor manual. In fact, I have never documented a junked 1979-1993 Saab 900 with an automatic. This one came close to the 175,000-mile mark during its life. The paint is somewhat faded, but the interior looks good for a car this age. Its owner or owners took good care of it. The body has a few dents but no rust worth mentioning. If it had been a 900S or a 900 Turbo, it would have had a better chance of avoiding this fate. Saab's innovative technology for 1987 starts at around $15,000 and goes up to the $20,000,000 Viggen (the fighter plane, not the later hot-rod 9-3 that borrowed the Viggen name).
