You are bidding on a nice gently used 1998 Model 900 S Saab 2 Door Convertible. This is my wife's car. She bought it in February 2000 when it had 13K miles on it. She takes the train to work so she has not put a lot of miles on it. She has taken very good care of it over the years. With the exception of oil changes and swapping tires, it has almost always been factory serviced. She has a pile of service reports/receipts showing the history.

The car has the following features:

  • The car has always been garaged
  • The convertible tops works well
  • It has the factory multi CD tray
  • The seats are leather and heated
  • There are two binkys (or remote door openers) and a total of three keys
  • There are a set of snow tires (currently installed) along with the normal summer use tires. Snows are 205/55R16 M+S and the summer tires are 205/50R16 M+S
  • The car was just cleaned, washed and waxed. It looks great
  • 5 Speed manual transmission.
  • The car is fast and I mean fast. It handles very well. My wife bought a 2011 BMW 328i and I firmly believe this Saab is a better car for driving and handling.
  • Neither one of us smokes so it is a smoke free car
  • The original factory user manuals are included. Wait... there's more....the original Saab Helpful Hints cassette is included.

The car has had the following work or parts replaced:

  • Transmission replaced in 2013, replacement was a factory reconditioned dealer replacement
  • Clutch and slave cylinder in 2013
  • Oil pan in 2013
  • Convertible tonneau motor in 2011
  • Serpentine belt and tensioner pulleys in 2011
  • Brakes in 2007
  • Radio 2005
  • Muffler in 2003

The car has the following imperfections:

  • The radio antenna sticks out of its well about 1 inch, not an issue, it works, just trying to be 100% transparent about any issues
  • There is a spot of rust on the right rear fender, see picture.
  • There are scrapes on the front bumper
  • There are scrapes on the rear bumper allegedly from husband scraping snow blower against car
  • The battery works great but if you leave the key in the ignition for more than a few minutes, it drains the battery. Give it 15 minutes rest and the car starts. It has been this way since the day we owned the car. Saab has no idea why. It is not an issue if you always remove the key from the ignition when not driving the car.
  • The AC does not work. The compressor needs to be replaced. She did not want to put the money into the car so never fixed it. It is a convertible so why use AC?
  • The front right tire has a slow leak. We think the tire needs to be reseated. The snows are on it now and the summer tires will need to be put on. That should take care of the leak. If the leak is still there, you will need to get a used rim.
  • The rims have a few nicks and dings on them
  • There are the usual nicks and dings on the body for a car that is 16 years old.
  • The convertible top has a few wear spots. It does NOT leak. See the pictures.
  • All the service reports are included
  • The leather seats are not torn but they have some cracks in the surface of the leather. See the pictures.

This is a great little car. It has been well maintained. It is in good overall shape. There are no major issues. See list of imperfections above. You are bidding on a nice car that will be sorely missed by us. You can view the car, contact me through eBay.

There is a reserve of $2000 on the car.

I do not sell cars. I am not a car dealer. I sell tools and other cool basement related items on eBay. This is my wife's car and I am selling it for her. I have done the best I can to accurately represent the condition of the car. Please contact me if you have any questions or want to see the car. At the time of this listing, I have 1181 feedbacks over the past 8 years, all 100% positive.

Necessary Selling Information:

  • There is NO warranty
  • You are buying the car as is
  • We will deliver within ~50 miles of Boston. Otherwise, you are responsible for picking it up or shipping the car. We will not ship it.
  • A $500 deposit in Paypal is required within 48 hours of end of auction
  • Full payment is required within 7 days of end of auction
  • Full payment may be done with cash, cashiers check, money order or wire transfer
  • All communication is done via eBay.
  • There are about 100 more miles on the car since I took the picture of the odometer

Good luck bidding. You are bidding on a nice little car that needs a good home and driver for her.

NEVS mulling electric Saab 9-3 convertible, looking for engine partners, too

Wed, 14 Nov 2012

Do you believe in reincarnation? Like how we hope that, maybe, all of our hard work as auto writers will result in an eventual return as a swarm of beautiful butterflies. If you are a Saab fan, the equivalent could be this bit of news: The 9-3 Convertible may rise again, as an electric vehicle.
Word comes from the Dutch version of Autoweek that Chinese entity National Electric Vehicle Sweden (NEVS) has indicated that it will bring an electric version of the 9-3 Convertible to market in the next 18 months. The EV droptop would first debut in the Chinese market, but could expand, as could the lineup to other 9-3 variants, such as the sedan and SportCombi. A NEVS spokesperson has stated, "NEVS basically no doors holds." We're not sure if that's the spokesperson or the translation from the Dutch report, but you get the gist.
NEVS also indicated that conventionally powered versions of the 9-3 could be produced as well. The internal combustion engines could be the originally intended General Motors engines. Regardless of powerplant, we would be very eager to see Saab return, potentially as an EV to boot!

Best and Worst GM Cars

Thu, Apr 7 2022

Oh yes, because we just love receiving angry letters from devoted Pontiac Grand Am enthusiasts, we have decided to go there. Based on a heated group Slack conversation, the topic came up about the best and worst GM cars. First of all time, and then those currently on sale, and then just mostly a rambling discussion of Oldsmobiles our parents and grandparents owned (or engineered). Eventually, three of us made the video above. Like it? Maybe we can make more. Many awesome GM cars are definitely going unmentioned here, so please let us know your bests and worsts in the comments below. Mostly, it's important to note that this post largely exists as a vehicle for delivering the above video that dives far deeper into GM's greatest hits and biggest flops, specifically those from the 1980s and 1990s. What you'll find below is a collection of our editors identifying a best current and best-of-all-time choice, plus a worst current and worst-of-all-time choice. Comprehensive it is not, but again, comments. -Senior Editor James Riswick Best Current GM Vehicle Chevrolet Corvette We were flying by the seats of our pants a bit in this first outing and my notes were similarly extemporaneous. When it came time to tie it all together on camera, I failed spectacularly. Thank the maker for text, because this gives me the opportunity to perhaps slightly better explain my convoluted reasoning. I chose the C8 Corvette because it's simply overwhelmingly good, and it's merely the baseline from which this generation of Corvette will be expanded.  While the Cadillac CT5-V Blackwing (more on that in a minute) is an amazing snapshot of GM's current performance standing and its little sibling so enraptured me that I went out and bought one, their existence is fleeting. Corvette will live on; forced-induction Cadillac sport sedans, not so much. So while all three are amazing machines when viewed in a vacuum, the Corvette stands above them as both a reflection of GM's current performance credentials and a signpost of what is to come. So, given the choice between the C8 and the 5V-Blackwing right now, I'd choose the C8. In 10 years, when the Blackwing is no longer in production and Corvette is in its 9th generation? Well, that might be a different story. Now, just pretend I said something even remotely that coherent when we get to the part of the video where I try to make an argument for the 5-V Blackwing as best GM car I've ever driven. Or just laugh at me while I ramble incoherently.

Saab still alive and well at New Jersey dealership

Mon, Dec 29 2014

We all know the Saab story: a niche automaker that just couldn't last in the quickening pace of an increasingly competitive industry, despite its loyal following. But just because the automaker has all but completely disappeared, it doesn't mean that the loyal following has as well. In fact Saab Automobiles Parts North America estimates there are some 450,000 Saabs still in use in the United States, and many of them are still die-hard brand faithful who are adamantly clinging to the bankrupt brand they love. And many of those loyal customers are still finding a home at Park Avenue Saab in Maywood, NJ. Although the Park Avenue Auto Group operates Acura, BMW and Lotus franchises, it hasn't given up on Saab just because the company isn't making any new cars anymore. Instead it's set up shop in an old Suzuki showroom and is building a growing list of Saab customers across New York, New Jersey and Pennsylvania – parts of that list acquired from other, closed Saab dealers in the region. The dealership stocks spare parts and is ready to perform whatever service and maintenance existing Saab owners might need, but it's also still buying and selling Saabs: used models with low mileage and manufactured as close as possible to the end of production in 2011. So when an owner of an old Saab is ready to trade up, the dealership has something to offer. And many of those loyal customers, according to Automotive News, are willing to pay top dollar rather than switch to another brand. If and when a Saab owner needs to buy something newer – as most will have to – the dealer is ready to introduce them to a new Acura or BMW, but to date, very few have. That's why Park Avenue Saab still sells about 40 used Saabs every month to customers in the vicinity, across the country or even overseas. Between the sales and service departments, the dealership is still turning a brisk business, but unless NEVS, Mahindra or some other knight in shining armor swoops in and manages to do what GM and Spyker couldn't, the dealership's management know the business can't last forever.
