1994 Saab 900 Turbo Commemorative Edition

Offered for auction is this limited edition 1994 Saab 900 Turbo Commemorative Edition.

These were some of the best and last of the classic 900s sold by Saab. This model had some unique features including a Nova Black paint color not offered on any other Saabs. It also had the highest horsepower rating of any of the old classic Saabs. You can see the specifications for this car at www.saabce.com/1994CE.htm.

This is an older car with high mileage but has been very reliable in the time I have owned it. And it has always been a lot of fun to drive. The only reasons I'm selling this car are because it just isn't being driven enough and I need the storage space. I've put only about 500 miles on it each of the last three years for which I've owned it.

On the plus side.

It's been a very dependable car.
It starts easily and runs well with a good idle.
It has newer brake rotors and pads.
It has a recent muffler.
It has a recent slave cylinder and clutch.
It has a recent master cylinder.
Overall, the body is solid and straight.
Everything seems to be there.
It's a lot of fun to drive.

Known problems.

The paint is pretty poor all over. It has lots of chips and scratches as shown. Check out the pictures.
The top is old and has been patched.
The seats are stained and ripped as shown.
It needs tires soon. They have plenty of tread but have dry rot.
It sometimes pops out of reverse gear.
The left rear brake caliper needs replacing.
The gas filler neck has a crack.
A few dings towards the lower side of the passenger side door.
The cruise control recently stopped working.
The battery is weak.

Those are all the problems I know of. Other than the paint, I don't see anything too serious that it could not be worked out with a couple of weekends of tinkering. And other than the tires, I would not hesitate to take this car on a long trip. I recently drove took it on a 250 mile round trip with no issues at all.

Don't let this opportunity to buy a classic limited edition Saab convertible pass you by. In my opinion, these were the best C900 Saab ever built. They only made 500 of these and there are not too many of these rare Saabs left. Driving this car with the top down on a cool Autumn night is an experience you should not miss.

Shipping:
The car can shipped if the winning bidder want makes all the arrangements and pays all costs. And the car needs to be picked up within two weeks from the close of the auction. If that condition is not meet, it will either be relisted or offered to the next highest bidder.

Payments:
A non-refundable $500 deposit must be made via Paypal within 24 hours of the close of the auction. And the car must be paid for in full before it can be picked up. I will accept cash or a money order from a major bank. No personal checks unless you are willing to let the check clear before picking up the car.

If you have any questions at all about the item or the terms of the auction, please ask prior to bidding.

This item is sold as-is, as-shown, with no guarantee as to reliability, serviceability, or function.

NEVS to build new Saab models in China's Qingdao

Thu, 10 Jan 2013

National Electric Vehicle Sweden has officially signed a deal with Qingdao Qingbo Investment Company that will see the NEVS build EVs in Qingdao, China. The move is the first step on the road toward eventually selling vehicles in China. Reuters reports that the Chinese company has agreed to invest $307.33 million, after which point Qingdao Qingbo will receive 22 percent of the NEVS shares. Currently, there's no word on exactly when the funds and shares will change hands, but the Swedish automaker has previously said it fully intends to launch its first EV by early 2014.
NEVS has also made waves about potentially building a version of the old Saab 9-3 with a traditional internal combustion driveline. Currently, the manufacturer says it plans to ship the vehicles it builds in Sweden to the Qingdao port and distribute them to the rest of China from there. Later down the line, a manufacturing facility in Qingdao will supply the country with Chinese-built Saab models.

Boeing, Saab introduce entry for T-X trainer program

Thu, Sep 15 2016

This post is appearing on Autoblog Military, Autoblog's sub-site dedicated to the vehicles, aircraft, and ships of the world's armed forces. Boeing and Saab revealed their entry for the US military's T-X trainer replacement program. The new jet, simply called T-X, is like the lovechild of a F/A-18 Hornet and an F-16 Falcon, and as Boeing tells it, will provide "performance, affordability, and maintainability advantages" over the competition. "Our T-X is real, ready and the right choice for training pilots for generations to come," Leanne Caret, Boeing Defense, Space, and Security's President and CEO said in an official statement. And Caret isn't not kidding about the Boeing T-X being both real and ready – Boeing is so confident that it built two examples before the official unveiling on Tuesday. The first jet, which Defense News reports will fly by the end of the year, debuted to media with the kind of pomp usually reserved for automotive debuts. Boeing/Saab will use the second jet – also featured on Tuesday – for structural proof testing. The needs of a training aircraft are quite different than those of a traditional fighter. The T-X features stadium-style seating, so the instructor riding in back has nearly as good a view as the student in front. Student evaluations should be easy, too, as the open software transmits data effortlessly between ground training systems and the jet itself. Functionally, Boeing claims the twin-tail layout provides more agility than a single-tail design – remember, the military's newest jets, the F-22 Raptor and F-35 Lightning II both use twin-tail layouts – while the Air Force can mount two weapon hard points on the jet's wings. According to Defense News, four manufacturers – Boeing/Saab, Northrop Grumman, Lockheed Martin/KAI, and Raytheon/Leonardo/CAE – are vying for the contract to build 350 new trainers to replace the Air Force's fleet of aging T-38 Talons. Saab signs deal to sell 20,000 electric cars in China

Fri, Jan 15 2016

Another quarter, another gargantuan deal for National Electric Vehicle Sweden (Nevs), the Chinese-backed firm that bought the assets to Saab in 2012 and then spent two years getting out of financial trouble. The company just announced that it has agreed to a framework deal with China Volant Industry Co. (Volinco), a firm whose principal business is import and export of aerospace equipment and technologies. The tentative Volinco order is worth 8.5 billion Swedish crowns ($996 million US) for 20,000 electric cars that will be delivered between 2017 and 2020. A final purchase order is expected to be finalized later. In December, Nevs signed a deal worth $12 billion to provide 150,000 electric cars to Panda New Energy, a Chinese EV leasing company. That deal will also see Nevs provide 100,000 electric vehicle products and services to companies that Nevs works with. As with the Volinco deal, Nevs will build and paint components for its Saab 9-3 EV in Trollhattan, Sweden then ship the kits to China for final assembly. Given the number and size of its recent deals, it shouldn't be a surprise that Nevs is building a factory in Tianjin, China that will be ready in 2020. Volinco apparently plans to use the trove as company cars for employees. The final agreement will also include giving Nevs access to a range of the aerospace firm's suppliers to assist with its production plans. Nevs is also working with Dongfeng and Renesas Electronics to help develop its current and future cars.
