I'm selling my 1994 Saab 900 Turbo Convertible. Very good condition. It's been my weekend beach cruiser for the last 2 years. Garage kept. Car drives and handles great - the whir of the Turbo is intoxicating, and urges you to accelerate so you can hear it as often as possible. I purchased the car just over 2 years ago, and have only put about 2k miles on it since. When I bought it I had the front brakes/rotors replaced, as well as the ignition (car now starts in neutral rather than having to start it in reverse gear). Time to make room for other toys in my garage. This was the last year for the 900 Turbo Convertible before the body style changed and is the fully loaded Commemorative Edition - MSRP when new was over $42k!!! Stereo is an aftermarket Sony Xplod CD player with an Aux cable input to play your iPod or MP3 player. Sounds great. Heated Driver's seat, power seats, power mirrors, power locks and power convertible top all work great. A/C, cruise control, washer spray, headlight wipers and rear defrost are not working but components are present. Does not have the original fog lights. The convertible top has some repairs to it, but does not leak. Dash is free of any cracks or damage. All glass is original and in great shape. Driver's side seat has some typical wear on the side bolster - other than that, the leather seats look amazing. Original alloy wheels have some pitting, dings and scratches typical of a 20 year old vehicle. The paint on the hood is faded slightly, as is the front emblem. Paint on the sides and trunk looks very good. There is rust on the driver's side door jam, in the usual place for these older saabs. The previous owner lived on the ocean, so there is surface rust on the trim pieces and on the chrome parts - like the seat belts. Tires are Kumho in the front with about 30% tread remaining, Michelins in the rear with about 20% tread remaining. Overall, a great daily driver, weekend tourer or an easy project car to restore to it's original condition. Incredible low, original miles! Please ask any questions before bidding - your bid is a contract, so please only bid if you are willing to purchase the vehicle. $500 non-refundable deposit via paypal due within 24 hours of the end of the auction. Remaining balance due within 7 days after close - cash, or certified funds only, personal checks must clear my bank before vehicle will be released. Clear Florida title in hand. Shipping is the responsibility of the Buyer. Car is being sold as is, where is - with no warranty stated or implied.

Junkyard Gem: 2004 Saab 9-5 Arc Wagon
Sat, Jun 6 2020As I work on my project of documenting automotive history via the machinery I find in car graveyards around the country, blank spots in the junkyard record keep showing themselves. I've remedied the lack of discarded BMW 3- and 5-Series cars in recent months, through the E46 and E39 respectively, and now I'm trying to move past the 900 in the Saab timeline. We've got the 9000 covered, and now it's the turn of the 9-3 and 9-5. Here's an '04 9-5 Arc Wagon, found in a Denver yard recently (I shot a 9-3 on the same trip and you'll see it in the near future). General Motors took over Saab in 2000, after more than a decade of 50% ownership, and so the 9-5 (or 95 if you prefer) had plenty of Opel/Holden/Vauxhall DNA in its cells. Its closest American-market relative (other than the 9-3) was the Saturn L-Series. However, you couldn't get a Saturn with a proper Saab engine under the hood, and by "proper" we mean one descended from the original Triumph Slant-4. This 2.3T turbocharged version sent 220 horsepower to the front wheels, making this a nicely quick wagon. It appears that this car endured some lean times as it approached the end of its road, with the kind of leaky-side-glass repair you do only when you know you're a car's final owner. You could get the 9-5 Wagon as the Linear, Arc, or Aero models in 2004. The Aero was the factory-hot-rod version, while the Arc was more about luxury. The leather seats in this Arc still look pretty good. Even though this car's ancestry is more German than Swedish, it has the traditional Saab console-mounted ignition switch. When it came time for The General to sell Subaru Imprezas with Saab badging, however, the ignition switches stayed in the non-Saab locations. At least the Saab-badged Chevy Trailblazer had the switch in the Trollhatten-approved location. It doesn't look as quirky as the early Saabs, which were born from Flying Barrels, but it stood up well against the competing cars offered to America's ever-shrinking pool of station wagon shoppers. Built in Sweden by Swedes! Would this have happened with an Audi wagon? Featured Gallery Junked 2004 Saab 9-5 Arc Wagon View 26 Photos Auto News Saab Automotive History Wagon Junkyard Gems
Are orphan cars better deals?
Wed, Dec 30 2015Most folks don't know a Saturn Aura from an Oldsmobile Aurora. Those of you who are immersed in the labyrinth of automobilia know that both cars were testaments to the mediocrity that was pre-bankruptcy General Motors, and that both brands are now long gone. But everybody else? Not so much. By the same token, there are some excellent cars and trucks that don't raise an eyebrow simply because they were sold under brands that are no longer being marketed. Orphan brands no longer get any marketing love, and because of that they can be alarmingly cheap. Case in point, take a look at how a 2010 Saturn Outlook compares with its siblings, the GMC Acadia and Buick Enclave. According to the Manheim Market Report, the Saturn will sell at a wholesale auto auction for around $3,500 less than the comparably equipped Buick or GMC. Part of the reason for this price gap is that most large independent dealerships, such as Carmax, make it a point to avoid buying cars with orphaned badges. Right now if you go to Carmax's site, you'll find that there are more models from Toyota's Scion sub-brand than Mercury, Saab, Pontiac, Hummer, and Saturn combined. This despite the fact that these brands collectively sold in the millions over the last ten years while Scion has rarely been able to realize a six-figure annual sales figure for most of its history. That is the brutal truth of today's car market. When the chips are down, used-car shoppers are nearly as conservative as their new-car-buying counterparts. Unfamiliarity breeds contempt. Contempt leads to fear. Fear leads to anger, and pretty soon you wind up with an older, beat-up Mazda MX-5 in your driveway instead of looking up a newer Pontiac Solstice or Saturn Sky. There are tons of other reasons why orphan cars have trouble selling in today's market. Worries about the cost of repair and the availability of parts hang over the industry's lost toys like a cloud of dust over Pigpen. Yet any common diagnostic repair database, such as Alldata, will have a complete framework for your car's repair and maintenance, and everyone from junkyards to auto parts stores to eBay and Amazon stock tens of thousands of parts. This makes some orphan cars mindblowingly awesome deals if you're willing to shop in the bargain bins of the used-car market. Consider a Suzuki Kizashi with a manual transmission. No, really.
Spyker files $3 billion lawsuit against General Motors over Saab's demise
Mon, 06 Aug 2012"Smack." That's the sound of Spyker's process server dropping a big ol' pile of legal documents on the doorstep of The Renaissance Center, home of General Motors - or wherever GM's attorneys live during business hours. Contained therein is a Complaint, filed in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Michigan and demanding a jury trial, that seeks $3 billion in damages due to "the unlawful actions GM took to avoid competition with Saab Automobile in the Chinese market." Spyker accuses GM of "tortiously interfering" with Saab's business relationship with Chinese automaker Zhejiang Youngman Lotus Automobile (Youngman), actions that Spyker CEO Victor Muller (above) said "deliberately drove Saab Automobile into bankruptcy."
(From Wikipedia: "Tortious interference, also known as intentional interference with contractual relations, in the common law of torts, occurs when a person intentionally damages the plaintiff's contractual or other business relationships.")
The interference in question specifically refers to the very last potential deal, called the Framework Agreement, that Spyker worked out with Youngman. With lots of GM engineering embedded into the 9-4X and 9-5, The General had the right to approve any Saab partnership that would involve the transfer of GM intellectual property. Spyker had been rebuffed over every previous deal with a Chinese firm, including two bids by Youngman, due to GM concerns over its IP getting into Chinese hands and having to face Chinese-market competitors using its technology. The Complaint alleges that the Framework Agreement would have put a firewall around all GM IP - Youngman would only work on Saab's Phoenix platform, said to be just about free of GM tech, and would have no access to 9-3, 9-4X or 9-5 technology until after Saab ceased all ties to GM.
