1992 92 Saab 900 Turbo S Hatchback on 2040-cars
San Francisco, California, United States
I'm auctioning my 1992 Saab 900 S, LPT turbo 5 Speed. 155,274 miles, passes smog. Originally the naturally aspirated S model, I converted the car to a Turbo approximately 80,000 miles ago. (email me for more specifics if you want… 10.1:1 compression, 5-8 psi boost on 91 octane, manual boost control (no APC) Probably puts out somewhere around 170hp though capable of ALOT more - the car is my daily driver and I have had no interest in driving it aggressively or desiring more power... it is set up very conservatively). Original owner, purchased new in 92. Religiously maintained for its whole life. Many parts have been replaced with new ones over the years including a rebuilt transmission, fuel pump, radiator, head gasket/re-surfaced head, belts, headliner, headlights, Hall sensor, various other sensors, etc... Has Turbo model exhaust, clutch, fuel pressure regulator and injectors, exhaust. Equipped with Bilstein shocks and Intrax springs (lowered 1 inch). Also has had turbo replaced 3 times, most recently with the Mitsubishi TE-05 from a 93 900 turbo. Currently equipped with stock intercooler, though it used to have a front-mount intercooler installed - intercooler and all plumbing included if you want to put it back on! Has a bunch of little things that need work: leather pretty good but needs a lot of re-stitching, stereo speakers (all upgraded) need re-wiring, only one windshield wiper works, turn signal stalk broken/replaced with 3 way switch, horn buttons broke off (horn still operates). Needs windshield washer pump. There is one spot of rust around the right rear wheel well. Dashboard has some cracks in it. Leaks oil (out of the engine, not into it...) and power steering fluid (requires topping off once a month). It will need a new starter soon - the starter motor is good but the solenoid only engages a little once the engine is warm, requiring 2, sometimes 3 re-ignition attempts - it's not getting worse, I've been driving it like this for several months. May eventually need a new front right Inner Driver/Companion Flange: there is a little shimmy/low frequency vibration when the engine is under load at about 65mph - other speeds no vibration at all. Body has a few scratches and dings, nothing serious, and the clearcoat is peeling off the hood. Alignment is spot on - car tracks straight ahead if you take your hands off the wheel, though the right rear tire wears slightly more on the inside than the outside. Engine runs rock solid, no smoke, starts right up (assuming the solenoid engages:)) Transmission is rock solid, though "clicks" a little when reversing with foot off the throttle. It's a salvage title because insurance considered it totaled when someone bashed in a taillight! Taillight replaced, only a little trim is missing and there's a scratch on the hatch near that taillight. |

New owners of Saab don't get to use the name
Tue, Feb 2 2016Saab won't be revived as a Chinese-backed electric car brand. Aerospace and defense company Saab AB has declined to let the new owners of the dormant automaker's old designs and factory use the name on new cars, Automotive News reports. It's a blow to fans of the Swedish brand, who hoped the name would be revived on new vehicles coming out of the same factory as models like the 99 Turbo. National Electric Vehicle Sweden, known as NEVS, bought major assets of the Saab operation in 2012 following former parent Spyker's decision to liquidate the company in December 2011. This not only included the Trollhattan assembly plant in Sweden, but the rights to the Saab 9-3 and the platform of its successor. NEVS built some new 9-3s using leftover parts and powered by the old 2.0-liter turbo engines, with the intent to raise money to produce new electric vehicles for Europe and China – and to use the Saab name. When General Motors bought all of Saab Automobile in 2000, it used the name under license from the Saab AB. That permission was then passed to Spyker in 2010 and later NEVS, albeit without the griffin logo. But when NEVS sought creditor protection in 2014, Saab AB revoked the naming rights. Following reorganization, NEVS in August announced a deal with Dongfeng Motor Corp. to develop a new lineup of electric vehicles, which was revealed in December to include five new models by 2018, some assembled in China by 2020 – the first of which being an EV version of the old 9-3. However, Saab AB told Automotive News that discussions have ended regarding the use of the Saab name on these vehicles. NEVS owner Kai Johan Jiang told a Swedish radio station the company will find a new name to market the cars under when they go on sale. It's similar to what happened to SAIC when it purchased vehicle technology from bankrupt British carmaker MG Rover. While it had the tooling to essentially make the Rover 75, the brand name at the time belonged to BMW and barred SAIC from using it, so the Roewe brand was created in China. It's unclear why talks broke down and also where NEVS will get a new name (there aren't nicer ways to spell Saab, and it was originally an acronym, anyway). Will Saab AB attach its name to another line of cars? Probably not. What it does mean, however, is that Saab fans have to cling tighter to their old cars now. Perhaps that's for the best. Spyker and Youngman sign deal, plan to build D8 SUV and Phoenix-based range
Mon, 27 Aug 2012It appears Spyker is strengthen its ties and carmaking ability with Chinese carmaker Youngman. This comes in the wake of the brand's latest dealings with a $3 billion lawsuit against General Motors regarding the demise of Saab.
Youngman is reportedly investing €10,000,000 ($12.5M USD) for a 29.9-percent stake in the company. The shares are being sold for €0.05 (6.3 cents) each, representing a fully diluted share. Youngman has said it will not take on more than the 29.9-percent stake.
Additionally, Youngman will invest €25,000,000 ($31M) for the development of an all-new Spyker vehicle, called the D8 P2P, named for the Peking-to-Paris rally. The vehicle had been shown as a concept by Spyker previously, but things had been quiet since then. It appears Spyker will now build the uniquely styled D8 Concept shown above. The vehicle is to launch at the end of 2014 and carry a price of $250,000 per vehicle.
Saab owner may speed up relaunch with gas-powered 9-3
Wed, 21 Nov 2012National Electric Vehicle Sweden, the new owner of Saab, has good news for you if you happened to miss out on picking up a 9-3 before the company plummeted through bankruptcy. Automotive News Europe reports NEVS may offer a gasoline-powered 9-3 in 2013. That move would effectively step up the brand's re-launch plan by a full year. Originally, the company planned to introduce an electric vehicle in 2014, but NEVS is currently investigating ways to start production next summer using "a 9-3 with a traditional powertrain" in order to generate more cash for the electrification effort.
NEVS purchased Saab earlier this year with the intent of resurrecting the brand with a fully electric product portfolio. The new EVs would theoretically ride on the Saab Phoenix platform and be manufactured at the automaker's plant in Trollhattan, Sweden. The report of a resurrected gasoline model came courtesy of Mikael Oestlund, a company spokesperson familiar with the company's workings.
