THIS IS A NO RESERVE LISTING.

This is my 1991 Saab 900S sedan with only 67,171 miles.  I'm quite certain this is the nicest classic Saab 900 for sale in the country.

This car was purchased new and was owned by a physician, who kept all of the service records stamped in the service booket.  I have the entire service history of the car, on time, kept in the booklet.

This Saab is in exceptional, amazing condition.  I cannot imagine there are many of the original 900 models left in this sort of condition, or with this low mileage.  This is an outstanding car that you could drive every day if you wanted.

My 900S has the following equipment and options-

  • 2.1L 16V engine
  • 5-speed manual transmission
  • A/C (retrofitted to R-134a and blowing cold)
  • Elmo leather seats
  • heated driver's seat
  • power sunroof
  • cruise control
  • power windows and door locks
  • power mirrors
  • ABS brakes
  • driver's airbag
  • foglights
  • headlight wipers

This car starts, runs and drives beautifully.  This is a totally reliable, dependable car with no known mechanical problems.  All of the service has been done on time according to the manufacturer's specifications, and by an authorized shop.  This car runs like a nearly new vehicle.  It is powerful, smooth, and quiet.  The handling, steering and suspension are tight.  I would trust this car to drive across the country- no doubt.

The paint and body are in very good condition for the age of the car.  The car has never been in any known accidents and the paint and body are straight, clean and in very nice condition.

The interior is in such good condition it can hardly be believed.  The Elmo leather seats are gorgeous- they are simply in amazing condition with no wear, rips or tears. The carpets are superbly clean and have been covered by floor mats since new. Even the buttons and switchgear are clean and in great condition. This interior is as nice as you could possibly imagine for a 1991 vehicle.

As mentioned, the service history is fully documented in the book. An oil change is not due again until 66,620 miles.

I have the owner's manuals and books in the original cloth storage pouch.

This car runs and drives beautifully, and the car has an impeccable history. I cannot imagine you will find a cleaner or nicer vintage 900 for sale anywhere.

This car is kept in my garage in Willoughby, OH.

This car is 22 years old and as such it is not brand new.  Please expect normal issues of wear and tear consistent with the age of the car, but keep in mind this is the nicest '91 Saab you'll probably find anywhere.  Here is a complete list of everything I know of that is wrong with the car: The SRS light is on.  The headliner is sagging somewhat over the rear seat. The factory radio reads "1226" when turned on, and it doesn't make any sound.  There is a small stone nick near the base of the windshield on the driver's side.  Shifting quickly into third gear balks just a bit when the car is cold.  If you shift slowly or wait until the car is warmed up it is fine.  There are some dings/dents beneath the beltline trim strip on the passenger side (garage wear).  There are some scuffs on the bumpers.

You can fly in to Cleveland (CLE) and drive this car home.  Alternatively you can have the car shipped.  I highly recommend Angels Moving Autos at 530 245 0481 for a shipping quote.

Vampire Weekend burns for Saab

Thu, 21 Mar 2013

Or is it the other way around?
Could Vampire Weekend be trying to tell me something? A just-launched music video for the indie rock band's new single Diane Young features what looks like a pretty mint black Saab 900 Turbo Convertible being torched in slow-motion. In fact, with the exception of a brief, flickering cameo by a 900 three-door of a similar vintage, that's all that there is to the nearly three-minute long video. It's both sad and oddly beautiful.
Coincidentally, I have a similar-looking turbocharged black Saab convertible sitting in my garage, and I've been reluctantly pondering its sale this very week. Admittedly, mine is a later model (2001 9-3 Viggen), but tri-spokes and more tapered rump aside, it looks eerily identical. And while mine isn't mired in flames (I love it too much to torch it), through no fault of its own, it's been sitting motionless far too regularly. Thankfully, I see a better future for it than the droptop seen above.

Petrolicious keeps our love of the Saab Sonett aflame

Wed, 19 Mar 2014

German auto designs lean toward function and purpose. Italian designers deliver passion and beauty. The Brits, majesty. American cars, brashness and authority. If you want a funky design, though, you go to Sweden. The land of cheap, do-it-yourself furniture and delicious meatballs knows a thing or six about style and design, and while that character is only now reemerging thanks to a certain string of Volvo concepts, it use to be that Saab was the authority on penning some of the industry's more unique designs.
Take the beautiful Sonett for example - a small coupe whose appearance is a funky mishmash of a Porsche 911 and a Bugeyed Sprite with just a hint of a Citroën DS (it's that convex rear window). It's a positively striking car, made more unique by its two-stroke, three-cylinder powertrain and four-on-the-tree manual transmission. With just 70 horsepower hauling about 1,500 pounds of Swedish style, the Sonett strikes us as an ideal alternative to some of the English sports cars of its day, particularly for those that are looking for something beyond your average MG or Triumph.
For Glenn Roberts, the Sonett was a part of his childhood. His family owned example was originally a special-order item by his parents in 1967. He bought the car from them 13 years later and has never looked back, completing a restoration in 2004. With a story like that, it's not surprising that Roberts and his silver Sonett are the most recent pairing to get some attention from Petrolicious.

Recharge Wrap-up: Renault's electric motors, BMW i3 is AM free

Wed, Jul 1 2015

Why isn't AM radio offered in the BMW i3? Some drivers – particularly those interested in local traffic reports – have noticed its absence. BMW says that the electromagnetic interference from the electric drivetrain caused poor performance, and that while reception wasn't always terrible, it wasn't up to their standards. Rather than have customers complain to their dealers, who would be unable to do anything for them, BMW has disabled AM reception in the i3. Some customers have hacked their cars in order to enable the AM radio, despite possible warranty issues, and have found the reception to be acceptable. Read more at Green Car Reports. Saab's current parent company, National Electric Vehicle Sweden (NEVS), broke ground for production and R&D facilities in Tianjin, China. The facilities are part of joint ventures with the city of Tianjin and State Research Information Technology (SRIT). In addition to investments of over $190 million from SRIT and Teamsun, NEVS has received $1.6 billion in credit from the Bank of China to develop its business there. The new Tianjin factory will have a capacity of 200,000 new energy vehicles per year. The facility in Trollhattan, Sweden will provide manufacturing planning, training, and product supply for the Tianjin plant. Read more at Green Car Congress, and in the press release from NEVS. Renault is building the new R240 electric motor for the Zoe at its Cleon plant. The plant and its employees, which specialize in the Energy dCi diesel engine, have adapted to produce high volumes of the electric motor as well, including a 6,000 hours of training for the staff and millions of dollars in investments. "We aim to become the leading powertrain plant for the Alliance," says Cleon plant director Mendi Ammad. The plant is capable of producing 50,000 units of the R240 motor per year, with that number expected to double in the future. Read more about the plant and the production process the press release below. NEW ELECTRIC MOTOR STRENGTHENS POWERTRAIN EXPERTISE AT CLEON ZOE's new electric motor, unveiled at the Geneva Motor Show, is a 100% Renault motor manufactured at the French site of Cleon, already specialized in highly technical powertrain production. Until now, the flagship of the Cleon plant was the Energy dCi (130, 140, 160) internal-combustion engine. The diesel unit with advanced technological content has made a name for itself at Groupe Renault, the Alliance and with our partners.
