THIS IS A RUNNING PARTS CAR!!!
I just bought this car, kind of spur of the moment, and it turned out to have a worse rust problem than I initially realized.  I was going to cut and weld, but...no thanks.
The rust is limited to the floor (including trunk) of this car, and the door sill/frame in that area, but its basically the whole floor.  passenger side front seems ok, but other than that its ROUGH.
Don't ask for pictures. I'm not crawling under the car. Just assume its terrible if you sit or put your feet on it- theres a reason I call this a running parts car.
The OTHER usual rust spots are actually pretty nice, like where the control arms attach to the frame.  Weird.
Anywho, this is a pretty decent running car, fires up every time, sounds ok (could use plugs/wires/general tune), the turbo seems to function as intended (I love the look on peoples faces when they get passed by this car), and MOST IMPORTANTLY, the transmission shifts with ZERO ISSUES all the way up and down the line. Clutch seems pretty good.
Power steering is on its way out the door, the tires are 70% tread BF Goodrich Touring T/As, but honestly, they are dry rotted and should be replaced. (on the other hand, I bought the car 3 hours from home and drove it straight back, at an average 80 mph, so...who knows)
Need a set of SPG rims? These are clean looking, good for 24 years old. Maybe slap some winter tires on these and swap out at the seasons?
The air and cruise don't actually work, the windows work, but the drivers switch is a tad finicky. Central locking system works.
All glass is intact.
This car has the Saab/Clarion tape deck and eq, but the deck is locked out and the eq doesn't seem to turn on, but that may be because of the deck being locked.
The body seems to be intact, other than a little rust on the passenger fender. Drivers side fender is 100%, doors look ok, rear quarters are good. Hatch has no rust, but is all smashed up at the bottom.  Still seals and locks. Hard to get a good pic of this for some reason, but trust me when I say this hatch is done. Good thing that has to be the single easiest part to get.
Interior is...lame. Headliner is gone, front seats need redone, dash has lots of cracks and I think someone had it out at one point. Crap as far as the eye can see.
Actually, no, the backseat is awesome. Gorgeous. Like new. Cause thats what the people want. A nice backseat.

Ok, I think I got it all.
Any questions NOT ABOUT the rusted out floor/frame rails, feel free.

Good luck.

Celebrate Volvo's 89th birthday with some neat facts

Thu, Apr 14 2016

Volvo, arguably Sweden's best-known non-ABBA export, will celebrate the big 9-0 next year. The company has always operated somewhat under the radar, but it has its share of stories to tell despite an image formed by decades of solid, safe, and sensible cars. To celebrate the occasion, here are five lesser-known facts about Sweden's last remaining car brand. 1. It opened North America's first foreign car plant. Idyllic Halifax was a small fishing city of about a quarter-million in the early 1960s when Volvo arrived and became the first import brand to build cars en masse in North America. American consumers on the East Coast developed a fondness for the Volvo Amazon line in the late 1950s, leading Volvo to seek out a plant in the Americas. Halifax ponied up incentives, allowing Volvo to take advantage of a pact eliminating tariffs on cars built and exported between the United States and Canada. Volvo built cars there until the end of 1998, when it said its facility was no longer viable compared to larger factories in Europe. That brings us to The Netherlands, where Volvo bought a quirky, innovative automaker that once sold a car called the Daffodil (which was actually its luxury model). 2. You can thank Volvo for CVTs – even though it doesn't use them. Volvo wasn't interested in picking flowers. It wanted the automotive arm of truck manufacturer DAF, which would include its assembly plant, its Renault engines, and the first mainstream application of the CVT gearbox. Volvo acquired DAF's car business over the course of a few years in the early 1970s and, in typical Volvo safety-oriented style, it slapped big bumpers and head restraints on the little DAF 66 and rebadged it as the Volvo 66. The Dutch assembly plant would grow to include a partnership with Mitsubishi in the early '90s. Today, it operates as NedCar and builds Mini Coopers for BMW. Volvo is no longer involved in NedCar or DAF (which sold its CVT division to Bosch, by the way), but its acquisition of DAF helped ensure the success of CVTs. Ironically, even though Volvo's investment helped make CVTs mainstream, the Swedish automaker's affair with them was brief, and today it utilizes only conventional automatics. 3. The Swedish carmakers were pals. Over its 89 years, Volvo has been closely connected to a number of automakers – most notably Ford, which ran the company for a decade, and its current owner Geely. But Volvo is most closely linked to its longtime competitor, Saab.

Saab plant reopens, production to resume by year's end?

Mon, 19 Aug 2013

Saab is gearing up to start production of the 9-3 again in September, two years after the last exampled rolled off the assembly line at the company's Trollhättan factory, Aftonbladet reports. Saab's new owner, National Electric Vehicle Sweden AB (NEVS), a Chinese-Japanese consortium created solely to buy Saab, says that the model's parts supply is the bottleneck in the production process, understandable since many of Saab's suppliers closed after it stopped production two years ago. The automaker also needs to establish a new dealership network. It is not entirely clear where Saab will market their new models, but North America is not expected to figure into their plans, at least initially.
Almost 400 factory employees are reportedly back working at Trollhättan, and Saab is looking to recruit 180 workers to help with production, presuming the factory can overcome its supply issues and go back online in the fall.
The new 9-3 is understood to be something short of an all-new car, a revision of the old 9-3 that started production in 2002. It will reportedly be offered initially as a four-door sedan and two-door convertible, and it will have a turbocharged engine, according to NEVS, which we expect will be a four cylinder. An electric 9-3 could come as early as next year. Turbocharged engines are part of Saab's DNA, NEVS Vice President Mattias Bergman has stated, and future Saab models will have them - despite the automaker's planned progression toward electric vehicles. The 9-3 will get small facelifts over time, says Mikael Östlund, a press officer at NEVS.

Super sleeper Saab 900 does 174 mph in the standing mile

Sun, 14 Apr 2013

Somewhere behind Hennessey setting a new top speed record at this year's Texas Mile with its camouflage Ford GT, a stock-looking 1996 Saab 900T pulled up to the line to see what it could do. The dealer showroom wheels wouldn't offer any indication that the 2.0-liter four-cylinder under the hood was getting help from a Garrett turbocharger, a tuned ECU and E85 gas to put out 465 horsepower at the front wheels.
Knowing that, it shouldn't be too much of a surprise that at the other end of the mile the sky blue Swedish wonder was doing 174 miles per hour. The four-cylinder class at the Texas Mile has plenty such rockets, too, this Swede coming just behind a Dodge Neon that did 175.8 mph. You can watch the Saab do its thing in the video below.
