Body in reasonably good condition for a car of its age - a good prospect for a complete restoration. Timing chain has failed. Repair will necessitate removing the engine from the car and replacing the timing chain and guides and probably all the exhaust valves and perhaps the cylinder head. Air conditioning compressor removed - have parts. Many new parts - hoses, exhaust system, rt front caliper."

This car was originally purchased new in Sweden by my father in 1983. He drove it around Europe for the better part of that summer and then took it back to Sweden where it was outfitted with a catalytic converter and shipped to the US. For the next 28 years, the car was driven in the Northeast US (NY and MA) and garaged. I have had the car for the last two years during which time it has not been garaged, though for the most part we kept it off the road in the winter.

I had been doing preventative maintenance on the car since I acquired it. I replaced a stuck caliper (rt front), all the radiator hoses, the exhaust system, and the head gasket, which was leaking small amounts of antifreeze. This May the timing chain failed (at 108791 miles). Repair will necessitate removing the engine from the car and replacing the timing chain and guides and probably all the exhaust valves and perhaps the cylinder head.

Body is in pretty good condition considering the age of the car and the region it was driven in. The paint is original. I don't believe it was ever in an accident. It is definitely restorable and would make a good project car.

Car is being sold as is, in non-working condition, with no warranties of any kind. Buyer must pay cash and remove car from premises in a timely manner. Title will be signed over only when payment is complete and car is being removed.

Saab's Victor Muller wanted to nix Griffin, return to airplane emblem

Tue, 09 Oct 2012

According to Just-Auto.com Victor Muller wasn't a fan of the Saab Griffin logo. The executive was quoted as saying he wanted to "abolish" the Griffin logo and return to the airplane emblem. Muller made it clear that if he'd had his way, the propeller would have replaced the Griffin across the Saab lineup long ago.
National Electric Vehicle Sweden, the company that recently bought Saab, was forced to abandon the Griffin logo due to the fact that the emblem is still used by truck manufacturer Scania. The manufacturer is reportedly concerned about potential Chinese counterfeiting - NEVS is owned by Youngman, a Chinese automaker - though it's unclear how that relationship would lead to illegal copies.
Either way, NEVS has said the loss of the Griffin logo isn't that important to the company so long as it can continue to build on the Saab name. Muller, meanwhile, said he wishes NEVS luck in the company's electric-vehicle endeavor, but that he doesn't understand its new business model.

Dealership refunds student for broken Saab with bags of pennies

Fri, Jul 25 2014

Every so often, we come across the story of someone trying to "stick it to the man" by paying a parking fine or speeding ticket in pennies or dimes. Never, though, have we heard of a business stooping to such cliched lengths. Enter Florida. Irena Mujakovic bought a 2003 Saab way back in January from Holiday Motors, in Jacksonville, FL. Shortly after the purchase, the transmission started acting up. She returned to the dealer and paid for the repair, and purchased a warranty for future issues. Total cost: $300. But then the trans crapped out not long after the initial repair, and Mujakovic was back at Holiday Motors. This is where things start going south. This second trip cost Mujakovic $400, with her warranty in hand. That's because the man that runs the dealer, Ed Di Miranda, neglected to mention that the warranty didn't cover labor costs. "The warranty did not cover labor and I failed to write that in and that was her loophole," Di Miranda told First Coast News. The young college student filed a complaint with the Florida DMV, who sided with her and ordered Holiday Motors to refund the money. Di Miranda and the dealership did just that, but when Mujakovic came to collect her refund, it was to a bag of pennies, with a few dollar bills sprinkled in for good measure. Di Miranda, doesn't seem to think he's done anything wrong, claiming that only about $85 was in change, while the rest was paper money. "I am doing what DMV asked me to do," Di Miranda said. "It is legal tender." Mujakovic has not collected her refund. Have a look below for the video news report. This content is hosted by a third party. To view it, please update your privacy preferences. National Electric Vehicle stops Saab 9-3 production amidst financing woes

Tue, 20 May 2014

It seems that quirky, Swedish automaker Saab might be on life support yet again. Its owner, National Electric Vehicle Sweden, has announced that it's reducing its workforce and temporarily halting production of the 9-3 due to financial problems. NEVS was only building six cars a day, anyway.
The company put out a press release admitting its economic woes, but it still appeared hopeful. NEVS claims it's developing "a new platform on the Phoenix architecture," and it has a frame agreement with an international automotive OEM. It didn't give any specific details about either one of these assertions though. According to The Wall Street Journal, NEVS needs the partnership to lower development costs in order to stay afloat. Saab spokesperson Mikael Ostlund told Autoblog in an email that the stop in production of the 9-3 in Trollhättan would last four weeks.
NEVS says it's in negotiation to sell a portion of the company to an automotive company. Its current monetary woes are caused by shareholder Qingbo Investment Company not financing the company as agreed. "We plan to have the results of the discussions at latest during June," said Ostlund.
