Amazing Condition-very Clean - *low Miles* *no Accidents* No Dents No Scratches on 2040-cars
Aurora, Illinois, United States
NOTE: I took the time to write a detailed description and posted lots of pictures - so please read entire ad.
Also Note: On 9/14/2004 the incorrect mileage was reported (typo), it should be 23,538. All other mileage reports confirm this. This car has NOT been recently detailed - this is how it's always been kept. Recently Serviced items (within 6 months): * New turbocharger installed, new spark plugs * New radiator hoses and serpentine belt. * Oil pan removed for inspection and preventative cleaning...newer cars with turbo engines tend to build up sludge internally. No sludge found, See oil pan picture!!! Must be due to our frequent, pure synthetic-only oil changes. New engine gaskets and oil seals installed after oil pan cleaning. * Valve cover removed to inspect timing chain - Chain in great condition - not stretched and upper engine found to be very clean. New gasket installed. * Newer Michelin all-season tires (all 4), about 6 months ago. * New front sway bar links (1 week ago) * New brake pads (front), rears have over 60% left. BODY LOOKS LIKE NEW (no door dings at all), INTERIOR SHOWS MINIMAL SIGNS OF WEAR. RUNS AND DRIVES GREAT. NON-SMOKER. No dents and no scratches anywhere. No rub marks on the bumpers either. Economical but powerful, 4 cyl. engine. Automatic transmission. VERY SAFE VEHICLE: Traction and Stability control, 4-wheel ABS, Tire Monitors, and multiple airbags standard! great student car or perfect family sedan. Amazing traction in the snow. IT HAS: * Automatic transmission; also manual option with paddle shifters. * Automatic climate control - separate digital settings for driver, passenger and rear occupants, Not a single fault code in climate control system. * Power Windows, Power Locks and Power heated mirrors. * Power seats (Heated front seats and Heated rear seats) and power moonroof * Cruise control, Tilt/Telescopic steering wheel with radio control buttons. * Legendary Saab audio system - best stereo sound of any car. * Good brakes and original stainless steel exhaust is still very quiet and rust free. * ALMOST NEW tires on stock alloys - no curb marks on wheels that I could find when I last hand washed the car. * Keyless Entry - factory alarm works great. * No oil leaks, No coolant leaks, No rattles, No strange noises. Engine runs smooth - car drives straight down the road. * No check engine light and NO service codes on HVAC system either. * No dead pixels on SID display (common issue but not on this one, SID is perfect). No malfunctions on SID check, see last picture. * Everything works as it should. This car is Great on gas and fun to drive. Miles are very low for the year. Car has been properly maintained and only synthetic oil used. Beautiful Exterior, Merlot Red Metallic, and paint is still very glossy and blemish-free. Not a scratch or dent anywhere. Beautiful leather interior with very minor sign of wear on driver's seat. (normal for light-colored leather seats, see pictures). We have the clean and clear title in hand. This particular car sold for close to $40,000 when new (see original window sticker), but like most luxury European sedans, they depreciate rapidly, so these cars make great used cars; the high depreciation makes these awesome cars very affordable. We just decided to get a new van and were just offered $4500 on trade-in, so price is firm. Serious inquiries only; Please DO NOT bid unless you have ALL the cash available and are ready to follow through with the purchase. Non-paying bidders WILL BE REPORTED. |

First test drive shows promise of Saab 9-3 EV
Tue, Sep 16 2014We can't read Swedish, so when it comes to a first-drive review of a Saab 9-3 electric-vehicle prototype, we'll trust Inside EVs' translation of a write-up from Swedish automotive publication Elbilen i Sverige. And it's a decent one. The write-up, that is. The translation, too, we hope. Taken to the test track, the Saab was found to be quieter than a Tesla Model S and had the stability commensurate for a car that tipped the scales at about 4,000 pounds. The sedan accelerated from 0 to 62 miles per hour in 10 seconds, though the goal is to bring that time down to 8.5 seconds. The prototype also uses a 37-kWh prototype battery made by China-based Kai Johan Jiang Annual National Modern Energy Holdings that should be good for over 180 miles (and there's room for a bigger pack in the car, apparently). The 9-3's electric motor will be able to deliver 200 horsepower but, for testing purposes, it was limited to about 140 horsepower. The overall impression was that the car is not yet ready for prime time, but has a lot of promise. When prototype becomes production is the real question, given the financial condition of Saab parent National Electric Vehicle Sweden (NEVS). The company acquired the brand in 2012 and started making cars at Saab's Trollhattan plant in Sweden last year, but production stopped in May because of cash-flow issues. Late last month, Swedish courts denied NEVS protection from its creditors, so the company is now looking to restructure.
Saab still alive and well at New Jersey dealership
Mon, Dec 29 2014We all know the Saab story: a niche automaker that just couldn't last in the quickening pace of an increasingly competitive industry, despite its loyal following. But just because the automaker has all but completely disappeared, it doesn't mean that the loyal following has as well. In fact Saab Automobiles Parts North America estimates there are some 450,000 Saabs still in use in the United States, and many of them are still die-hard brand faithful who are adamantly clinging to the bankrupt brand they love. And many of those loyal customers are still finding a home at Park Avenue Saab in Maywood, NJ. Although the Park Avenue Auto Group operates Acura, BMW and Lotus franchises, it hasn't given up on Saab just because the company isn't making any new cars anymore. Instead it's set up shop in an old Suzuki showroom and is building a growing list of Saab customers across New York, New Jersey and Pennsylvania – parts of that list acquired from other, closed Saab dealers in the region. The dealership stocks spare parts and is ready to perform whatever service and maintenance existing Saab owners might need, but it's also still buying and selling Saabs: used models with low mileage and manufactured as close as possible to the end of production in 2011. So when an owner of an old Saab is ready to trade up, the dealership has something to offer. And many of those loyal customers, according to Automotive News, are willing to pay top dollar rather than switch to another brand. If and when a Saab owner needs to buy something newer – as most will have to – the dealer is ready to introduce them to a new Acura or BMW, but to date, very few have. That's why Park Avenue Saab still sells about 40 used Saabs every month to customers in the vicinity, across the country or even overseas. Between the sales and service departments, the dealership is still turning a brisk business, but unless NEVS, Mahindra or some other knight in shining armor swoops in and manages to do what GM and Spyker couldn't, the dealership's management know the business can't last forever.
Junkyard Gem: 1983 Saab 900 Turbo 4-Door Hatchback
Sun, Mar 20 2022I've been finding quite a few interesting Saabs in Colorado car graveyards lately, including a 96 and a 99 (sadly, a discarded example of a Saab 92 has eluded me — at least in the United States — so far), and now it's the turn of the factory-hot-rod Saab that gave car shoppers more horsepower per dollar than anything they could buy from Germany at the time: the 900 Turbo. I found this car a few weeks back in a yard just south of Denver. Saab sold the original version of the 900 in the United States for the 1979 through 1993 model years (after that, the 900 name went on a car based on the Opel Vectra and closely related to the Saturn L-Series), and the early 900s looked very much like their 99 ancestors. Saab was an early adopter of turbocharging, and so the 900 Turbo was available here for the entire 1979-1993 sales run. This engine, a 2-liter slant-four derived from a 1960s Triumph design (and first cousin to the engine used in the Triumph TR7), was rated at 135 horsepower in 1983. That was big power for a small car in the Late Malaise Era, and it gave the 1983 Saab 900 Turbo a power-to-weight ratio similar to what you got in the Mitsubishi Starion and Porsche 944 that year. Electronic fuel injection finally made turbocharging work well for everyday driving (though the Maserati Biturbo stuck with blow-throw Weber carburetors all the way through 1986 in the United States), and it wasn't long before TURBO became a magical word. Yes, by 1984 you had Ozone and Turbo break-dancing while Ice-T makes his film debut. A few years earlier, with the (carbureted) Turbo Trans Am's not-so-stellar reliability on display, Boogaloo Shrimp's character would have been assigned a different name. Though it's possible, based on the fact that at least one 1980s boombox was built from a Saab 900 dash, that Turbo's name was inspired by Saab. Saab should get credit for doing so much to push turbocharging into the daily-driver mainstream. You could get a three-speed Borg-Warner automatic transmission in your new 1983 Saab 900, but it added 370 bucks (about $1,075 in 2022 dollars) to the cost of the car and made it much less fun to drive. This one has the 5-speed manual; I assume the E next to fifth gear stands for "efficiency." The five-door 900 Turbo listed at $16,910 with five-speed manual, which comes to about $49,055 today. A new BMW 528e cost $23,985 that year ($69,580 now) and offered just 121 horsepower.
